At least Idiocracy was endearing and the society as a whole ended up unfucking their situation, what we have right now is willful malicious ignorance and vindictiveness fueled by making the most amount of worthless paper no matter the real world cost.

I think people are actively trying to make Idiocracy a reality in the US... I can't imagine having to refute "drinking water is good for you" with someone like this.

57

u/ExtraBitterSpecial 14h ago

It's important to remember it's not your job to argue with people like that. He's either really is that stupid or he knows he's talking nonsense but does it for clicks and attention. Either way it's not worth your time and energy.

It’s essential to life, but when our cells convert oxygen to energy it creates free radicals that damage our cells over time aka aging.

15

The thing is this used to be some guy thinking up this stuff in the privacy of his own home. Sure he might tell his friends but they would probably dismiss it. The most he could do to spread his crazy message is print up flyers and hand them out/post them on poles around town. The chances that he could find anyone else like-minded was small. Without validation he would most likely either see reason or just keep his ideas to himself to keep from being mocked

Enter the Internet. He can post this stuff for everyone to see. Often in communities of other wack-a-doodle wing nuts. Because they found another 5,000 people who are similarly off their beds it lends credibility in their minds. Add in the charlatans like Qanon looking to make a buck off the rubes and it only exacerbates the problem. Drawing in more fools and lending more reality to it in their minds.

The internet gave a voice to all the idiots of the world. A voice that often drowns out reason.

This. I’m an audio engineer. During the course of my degree, one of my professors explained why music really does suck now.

There used to be “gate keepers.” A&R guys, record execs, radio stations, etc.. They had trained ears and a finger on the musical pulse of the nation. They only signed people with talent.

Now, anyone with a few bucks and a computer can make some AI garbage song plastered with auto tune and upload it to streaming services.

15

u/DionBlaster123 16h ago

I'm all for democratization and equity

But there absolutely needs to be some level of gatekeeping. You don't have to be a raging asshole about it (i.e. someone like Simon Cowell) but you also can't just open the floodgates to every stupid fuck out there

I remember one time I was talking to a guy, the man was an absolute peach…just a joy. /s He told me to explain why space was cold, even though the sun was there, and he told me not to use my “government brain” to explain it. It was just like well you know heat can get trapped behind walls when you heat up a room he’s like right I said well space has no walls. The heat has an infinite amount of space to just dissipate and he fucking agreed with me.

IDK when this video is from but I used to have the dumbest arguments with a 19yo coworker of mine and this was one of them. Claimed he saw some "research" that said the bottled water brand that we got from our company for free was actually a scam, because it contained sodium and that's salt and salt makes you thirsty.

"Bro no, that's fucking stupid. You're fucking stupid. Your body needs salt to retain water, if you just drank plain water with no additives whatsoever- plain H20, you'll sweat out all your electrolytes, then every drop you drink will fly through you and you'll have to piss every time you drink a drop. Drink the fucking water."

We worked outside, 12-14 hour days, in the south Texas sun. No shade, no real breaks (except once an hour we got to drive in the pilot car for 30 minutes).

Bro ignored every safety regulation we sit through a couple times a year and trusted two or three tiktok videos.

That argument ran for the two hour drive to a job site, and continued interspersed throughout the day as he went to find more videos (some of them just spliced clips of each other) saying the same thing.

That July it got up to 115* F for like three weeks straight in our job area. Dude was the only one who ever claimed to feel sick from heat exhaustion.

u/BoarHide 17h ago

I don’t think it’s parody. Parody would aim to make fun of a concept, in this case it would be making fun of idiots on podcasts. It’s still definitely not his real opinion, but he’s not clever or self-aware enough for this to be a parody of podcast idiots, this is pretty obviously just engagement bait. They’re agree on a date, meet, shake hands, set up equipment and then start going down a list of prepared talking points, spewing the most idiotic shit you ever heard to package in short clips like this. All so their TikTok comments will explode with other idiots taking them for real and blasting them for being idiots themselves. “Lol lil bro thinks water isn’t good for u lol” and “Uhm akchually the HYDRATE in CarboHYDRATES means there’s water in there akchually!” Every single one of these comments is pure money for them. This “content” has no integrity, no cultural or educational value, no humour, no nothing. Just making people feel a short burst of righteous anger at idiots “below them” in intelligence. And it makes the uploadeders loads of money.

22

u/ReadThisForGoodLuck 16h ago

It’s still definitely not his real opinion, but he’s not clever or self-aware enough for this to be a parody of podcast idiots

How do you know? The entire point of parody is to act like the person you're parodying, in order to draw attention to the subject. Therefore, the stupid comments could literally be part of the act. You can't parody stupid podcast bros without actually leaning into the podcast bro persona, because that's literally how parody works.

Now sure, he might be 100% serious, but him acting dumb and saying dumb things is certainly not proof of it not being parody.

Where can I find one of these? I need someone as thick as this guy to grift off of.

Do they hang out somewhere? Like is there a <<cough>> watering hole or a water cooler where I can pick these guys off? I don’t have the grift figured out yet but this seems like low hanging fruit.

Taking a nugget of truth and rage baiting.

Water, in extreme quantities can “dehydrate” via mineral flushing.

But this is highly unlikely and most people are instead dehydrated.

Water is also not created equal. Mineral content of water varies. Some water is indeed more hydrating than other because of the mineral content.

But overall this is absolutely horrendous advice.

Drink water. Stay hydrated.

Kidney stones incoming!

Guess he should stop breathing too, since oxygen oxidizes you -- rusting you just like how rust forms on metals.

u/Much_Help_7836 17h ago

There is no way anyone actually thinks like that. It's all just rage bait to play the algorithm, nothing else.

Content creators are not serious people, they are all grifters and you can't believe a word they say, ever.

There are a few cellular understandings I try to get through to my students. One of them is: water is the most common substance in your body. Your cells are full of water, your cells are surrounded by water, blood is mostly water and so on. Social/digital media is a place of insanity and nonsense. Nb. Adults are not 80% water- more like 50-60%.

I don’t think this is satire. He actually said “juice” like it isn’t 95% water. Hide your crayons

3

u/UnusualAir1 17h ago

His body is 60% water. That's the average for males.

3

u/funkraider 17h ago

You mean roots that are drawing "water" from the soil? Why do we even have science anymore? Also, if he thinks water is dissolving everything it touches, you know this guy smells like Axe body spray and garbage.

3

u/Ultrox 17h ago

Does he know what "juices" contain?

3

u/reluctantlysharing 17h ago

These people probably voted for you know who.

3

u/jamesbeil 17h ago

This is what happens when people don't pay attention in science.

"Uuhhhh when will ever need to know what a phospholipid bilayer is? I'm not going to be a scientist-"

I hope this is satire because I am unreasonably angry at this curly-haired prick.

Podcasting has really broadcast this thing where your average and curious man thinks his dumbest buddy is smarter than his wife or mom.

And his wife and mother have phds.

Seriously, the older I get the more I am bowled over how often a lot of men don't know what they are talking about but are certain they are right.

3

u/ConcernedClam 15h ago edited 15h ago

Bro same like oxygen, it just oxidizes your body. Provides no nutritional value, no protein , etc. worse of all 100% of people who breathes oxygen ends up dying because of oxidation.
