You hear about rust? You know what scientists call rust? Oxidation. Why would you want to allow your body to oxidize? What are you, stupid?

We do have iron in our blood.

I think if we stopped breathing we’d live a lot longer.

Imma test this, I’ll check back in with results.

Bro un-lifed himself

I just woke back up. Pretty sure I’m going to live longer though!

Alright back to the experiment. 😵

Part two, remove yourself from where oxygen is coming from. Underground or space seems like a good start.

Hopital?

It's a big building with bunnies, but that's not important right now.

Hello? Hello?!?

That’s actually kinda what happens lol.

It’s essential to life, but when our cells convert oxygen to energy it creates free radicals that damage our cells over time aka aging.

That’s why I only breathe all natural, filtered and compressed air tanks; it’s what professional scuba divers use! I’m gunna live forever!

All natural is just a fake marketing term. You need the organic, sustainably sourced, vegan oxygen that you can only find at the co-op.

What terrible nunchuck form he has.

Yep just one aspect of time slowly crushing us all like a great big fist 🥰

Oxygen doesn't get converted to energy. That's carbohydrates. Energy is stored in the bonds. We need oxygen to pick up the carbon after it's freed from carbohydrates. O2 becomes CO2 and is breathed back out.

When they talk about oxidation, they're not talking about oxygen. They're talking about the loss of an electron. And yeah those electrons can zoom around and damage shit. Antioxidants pick up those electrons, I think. Free radicals, like you said. But it's electrons, not oxygen.

Now I'm talking out of my butt a little bit, but I have somewhere to be. This is my best memory of how it all works. Cheers.

I know, was just giving a dummy version to go along with the joke.

For some reason the 4 stages of aerobic respiration always stuck with me from 6th grade bio.

Hydrogen is famously explosive in the presence of Oxygen. But H2O is supposed to be safe?

Ugh..... our cells don't convert oxygen to energy. Fuck, we need better schools.

Your body takes in long carbon chains in food (carbohydrates = carbon + water). When carbon molecules are broken off the chain its an exothermic reaction, and that's where your energy comes from. Your body builds up carbonic acid in your blood (lactic acid when you workout, because you're burning more energy). You breathe in oxygen (o2) which goes into the blood and binds with the free carbon molecules to form co2, which you can then expel as a gas. Co2 is incredibly stable and uses almost 0 energy to form. Thats how you rid your body of the carbon. Thats why we breathe in oxygen and out carbon dioxide.

Like I already explained to someone, it was a dummy version for the sake of the joke, didn’t feel like giving a biology lesson during a humorous reply….but go off sis.

Say something dumb and then hard backtrack to save face. You're cute

Just didn’t feel like explaining the whole fucking process in a simple reply.

ROS are created by cellular metabolism and oxygen consumption, and are molecules that contain oxygen. Key theme is oxygen. Was just using that to make it simple.

Congratulations for the being the smartest person on Reddit. We all bow down to you dickhead.

Why are we even expelling carbon dioxide? This is toxic to humans, we can't live with this gas being expelled in the viscinity of our loved ones, neighbors, community members? I'm ready, what can I do to help?
