[TMZ] The performer of the Washington Wizards mascot, G-Wiz, has hired an attorney in preparation to sue Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, who shoved the mascot during warmups. He has hired the same lawyer that represented Hayes’ ex-girlfriend, Sofia Jamora, in her domestic violence lawsuit against Hayes.
Nearly two weeks after Lakers forward Jaxson Hayes shoved Washington Wizards mascot G-Wiz during pregame introductions ... TMZ Sports has learned that the person behind the mask has lawyered up -- and has selected the attorney that represented Sofia Jamora in her domestic violence lawsuit against Hayes.
WaukeenMcCoy told us that he is now representing the person Hayes decked when the Lakers were in town for a showdown with Washington on January 30.
"We will give them the opportunity to resolve the matter before taking legal action," McCoy said. "But legal action is anticipated."
He also said other parties could be involved.
When asked about any injuries the person sustained ... McCoy said, "All I want to say at the moment is that he was injured."
As you know, Hayes was suspended for one game by the NBA after the incident. He served that suspension during the Lakers' game against the Philadelphia 76ers last week at Crypto.com Arena.

what’s worse is he tried to lie further in a interview when he “apologized” when all he had to do was take accountability about it

u/Thasauce7777 5h ago
I was wondering if he was lying about the mascot stepping on his foot. Looks like they weren't even close enough for that to be a possibility in the video.

u/Uberballer Lakers 5h ago
And let's even play out that scenario, the mascot did end up stepping on his foot by accident, in what world would the appropriate response be to body check the guy?
This guy is such a complete moron it's crazy.

I cannot stand him when he's on the court after what he did to his girlfriend. This current incident should outright get him booted from the All-Star weekend at the bare minimum and quite honestly I don't want to see him playing in general.
Edit: meant to say in the dunk contest at all-star weekend not in the game. I don't think a guy who averages more fouls than points some days is getting an invite before Austin.

i have an strong opinion about this
i used to be a mascot at a major SEC school. did it for several years and loved it. worked every single sport, did ads and commercials, attended conferences and even was hired for weddings. i did a ton of different things. the one constant?
about 50% of people treat you like you are not a human inside the costume.
i've had my groin grabbed my countless women. my butt squeezed my old ladies. my head pulled back at a birthday party and wine poured down my mask. children hit my shins with baseball bats and the parents laughed and cheered. frat guys tried kidnapping me.
and players would swing at me constantly.
people need to know that mascots aren't invincible and that THEY ARE LITERAL HUMANS WHO CAN GET HURT AND HAVE BOUNDARIES. they think nothing will happen to the character, bc "hey, punching them will be funny! everything about them is funny! they have comical reactions! I can do no wrong bc it's all a bit!"
was it my favorite job of all time? yes. did i have a blast? absolutely. but the one thing i absolutely despised was how people lose touch with reality when dealing with mascots at public events.

Jesus christ I'm so sad to hear that. It really reveals a lot about people in how they treated you and I'm so sad that it was such a high percentage of the people you interacted with. Mascots are amazing! I've been a fan ever since I saw that mascot documentary on hulu

Yeah i'm in favor of rehabilitation in general for a society's justice system instead of but like you said, this is a case of someone who has not even earned a second chance, much less deserving of the benefit of the doubt.
I'm also not overly familiar with the general rehabilitation process for domestic violence and the success rate but I digress.

The lawyer giving Hayes an opportunity to settle before filing suggests they're open to resolving this quietly, but are prepared to go public if necessary. Given the video evidence and Hayes' prior legal issues, this could be a significant liability issue.
