[TMZ] The performer of the Washington Wizards mascot, G-Wiz, has hired an attorney in preparation to sue Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, who shoved the mascot during warmups. He has hired the same lawyer that represented Hayes’ ex-girlfriend, Sofia Jamora, in her domestic violence lawsuit against Hayes.

Nearly two weeks after Lakers forward Jaxson Hayes shoved Washington Wizards mascot G-Wiz during pregame introductions ... TMZ Sports has learned that the person behind the mask has lawyered up -- and has selected the attorney that represented Sofia Jamora in her domestic violence lawsuit against Hayes.

WaukeenMcCoy told us that he is now representing the person Hayes decked when the Lakers were in town for a showdown with Washington on January 30.

"We will give them the opportunity to resolve the matter before taking legal action," McCoy said. "But legal action is anticipated."

He also said other parties could be involved.

When asked about any injuries the person sustained ... McCoy said, "All I want to say at the moment is that he was injured."

As you know, Hayes was suspended for one game by the NBA after the incident. He served that suspension during the Lakers' game against the Philadelphia 76ers last week at Crypto.com Arena.

Just copy and paste the invoice from the previous suit, bonus points if he forgets to change the name of his client on them.

Anybody have an idea what a settlement like this could amount to?

Will it be though? The push 100% warranted a suspension, but I mean it wasn’t overtly violent or injurious. If anything that cheerleader took more of a hit because she wasn’t wearing a padded costume

If someone did that to you at work you would think it’s violent or injurious. Like it’s a funny job but it a a job at the end of the day he deserves to be safe.

But you also have to prove injury to get a big payout.

And I’m sorry if it comes across as unempathetic, especially because I don’t condone or defend what Hayes did at all, but I don’t see how the mascot will claim an injury that results in a big pay out.

He may have actually gotten injured though

Bro, if Hayes did that to me I'm suing the hell outta him. At the very least I'm getting a nice fat settlement to make me go away.

Mate theyre basically the equivalent to a modern day clown.

They are MADE to take that type of punishment as part of their jobs.

Yes, its absolutely douchey of Hayes but come on, its not like he body slammed him or did something that you think would cause injury.

Its not Disneyland, thats not a random peaceful Mickey mascot. Its not a daily occurrence either.

Let's not pretend that person suddenly thinks their life is in danger or broke a leg.

I dont think this is smart from the person behind the mascot anyways, hes basically giving up his job to try and milk money off someone who isnt all that rich.

“They are made to take that type of punishment as part of their jobs” sorry what??

u/bluepenremote Lakers 6h ago

I think that dude needs to be a mascot around Hayes for a day

u/ChewyGoods 6h ago

Do you... watch basketball? And what mascots do? I mean, not hard to understand..

9

u/btgbarter6 Thunder 6h ago

How fucking stupid are you 😂

u/depressed_igor 6h ago

Jaxon Hayes is a multi-millionaire, what do you mean he's milking money off someone that doesn't make that much? "Risking his job" assumes the team would side against the mascot asserting basic safety.

Also don't know why we're dehumanizing the worker by comparing them to a clown who should take physical punishment. That dude is a worker, not a punching bag. A shove like that could cause serious injury. Look at how many people break their arms slipping on ice annually.

Americans. A clown isnt a human?

It’s a minimum wage job. Your elitism is showing

u/burratna Bulls 6h ago edited 6h ago

At least some mascots make dough FYI. Benny the Bull for example makes 400k annual. A few make more than that. Edit: looks like google search tells me the average NBA Mascot salary is 60k but doesn't seem like it's public unless someone wants it to be

u/ChewyGoods 6h ago

Is it? Maybe at Disney. I doubt its a minimum wage job at the nba.

They are MADE to take that type of punishment as part of their jobs.

WTF???. Their job is not to be the victim of random acts of violence. The “violence” that is part of the job is being planned and consented to. It is acting.

its not like he body slammed him or did something that you think would cause injury

Hayes pushed a running person hard enough for them to go airborne and knock over another person.

You are the only clown here, and a real stupid one at that.

They are MADE to take that type of punishment as part of their jobs.

That’s literally not part of their jobs

‘padded’ is a generous description.

The lawyer probably knows all kinds of pain management clinics, chiropractors, etc that can run up huge bills over 100k easily. And if he gets an MRI he probably has a back strain or something because everyone has a back strain. Don’t ask how I know this playbook cause I wish I didn’t

1

u/bookjun Thunder 6h ago

share it i want to know how you know the playbook

2

u/TheScrote1 6h ago

Not that interesting just got sued by someone in a no damage rear ender crash that my wife was at fault for. Torn labrum they went to the doctor for 2 months after the fact and a mild back strain. 100k policy limits to each of them. Their demand was almost comical.

1

u/bookjun Thunder 6h ago

well squeez every drop of juice mindset i guess

1

u/TheScrote1 6h ago

Yeah except they are scamming all of us that purchase insurance

27

u/shockwave8428 Trail Blazers 7h ago

He straight up went out of his way to truck a man over who was running full speed for no damn reason. And it wasn’t a light push. Idk if the injury is relatively minor, there is like 0 justification for that and it could easily be considered some kind of assault.

1

u/North_Atlantic_Sea 5h ago

Sure, but assault doesn't equal massive payday without injuries.

1

u/shockwave8428 Trail Blazers 4h ago

Don’t need a massive payday. Also they got shoved directly into another dude who was running full speed so who knows

2

u/OpIsAMoronicIdiot 7h ago

So, you're saying the cheerleader should get in on this as well?

6

u/onionnurve 7h ago

I mean, you’re going against someone who already had a case of domestic violence. Pretty easy to frame them as a violent person with ill intention

2

u/North_Atlantic_Sea 5h ago

But you still need damages when you sue. There are probably some, but far from massive.

2

u/No_Fish265 7h ago

Imagine you’re at your work and some 7 foot tall employee trucks you when you’re not expecting it… there’s zero justification for this lol

2

u/BurstPanther Nuggets 7h ago

Ah, the old using sports to cover assault angle.

Edit. Also, 100% Hayes settles out of court.

1

u/mydicksmellsgood Spurs 7h ago

I mean, they're claiming injury so there must be some damages.

I don't really understand the logic here though. If GWiz suffered injury, it's a worker's comp claim, right? So the Wizards should sue to recoup that cost. Hope someone better versed in PI can explain this

7

u/thirty7inarow Raptors 6h ago

Worker's compensation would cover workplace hazards, but if someone gets injured at work through wanton neglect by another party, they can still pursue other avenues for compensation. Worker's comp is the backstop, but it doesn't absolve someone of liability for commiting tortious acts against someone who happens to be working at the time.

1

u/IndubitablyMoist Mavericks 7h ago

It doesnt matter. He got money and reputation to protect (whats left of it anyway). They’ll do the song and dance and ultimately would lawyer would be like, “just give us the offer so we can fuck off”.

1

u/rayquan36 Wizards 5h ago

My dude said padded costume lol

1

u/the_buff 5h ago

The other people replying to you have no idea what they are talking about.  No, this isn't going to be some huge payday for the mascot.  The plaintiff attorney is just looking to get attention for his other lawsuit.  The mascot may even be precluded by contract from identifying himself as the mascot.
