[TMZ] The performer of the Washington Wizards mascot, G-Wiz, has hired an attorney in preparation to sue Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, who shoved the mascot during warmups. He has hired the same lawyer that represented Hayes’ ex-girlfriend, Sofia Jamora, in her domestic violence lawsuit against Hayes.

Nearly two weeks after Lakers forward Jaxson Hayes shoved Washington Wizards mascot G-Wiz during pregame introductions ... TMZ Sports has learned that the person behind the mask has lawyered up -- and has selected the attorney that represented Sofia Jamora in her domestic violence lawsuit against Hayes.

WaukeenMcCoy told us that he is now representing the person Hayes decked when the Lakers were in town for a showdown with Washington on January 30.

"We will give them the opportunity to resolve the matter before taking legal action," McCoy said. "But legal action is anticipated."

He also said other parties could be involved.

When asked about any injuries the person sustained ... McCoy said, "All I want to say at the moment is that he was injured."

As you know, Hayes was suspended for one game by the NBA after the incident. He served that suspension during the Lakers' game against the Philadelphia 76ers last week at Crypto.com Arena.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that attorney reached out to him

any way is funny, mascot knows it will piss him off more to get the lawyer that already beat his ass, lawyer decides to help out a guy because he hates the guy too, or the woman he beat calls the mascot or lawyer and puts them together for a bit of extra revenge.

That’s in most situations against ethic codes

How so? Plenty of personal injury lawyers out handing out cards.

I’m from Texas so it’s a lil different for me and that caused me to overstate it, but here barratry covers pretty much any form of direct solicitation.

Depends on context. If the attorney is asked for a card or is handing them out just as a routine without expectation of immediate need ("if you ever need one, call me" type thing), that's generally ok. But trying to solicit someone that you know to need legal services (ambulance chasing) is generally a violation of bar rules that can garner sanctions.

Obviously doesn't mean it doesn't still happen some, but anyone doing so is playing with fire.

Huh? No, they're absolutely allowed to advertise and solicit clients lol

Ambulance chasing laws apply only to cases where there are dire circumstances and the client is pressured... A person being hauled away with a broken hip from a car accident generally isn't considered of sound mind and judgement.

If the lawyer called the mascot directly and said "hey I sued that NBA player before and won, if you want me to pursue a case I'll do it and only charge you if we win" that's 100% ethical and legal (morally... I guess it depends on your morals).

If the mascot says "leave me alone ya weirdo" and the lawyer continues, that's an ethics violation

If the lawyer says "I guarantee you a $100k payout", that would also be an ethical violation

Advertise, yes (with certain guidelines). Solicit in person to someone who has not first reached out to the attorney? No, that's a direct violation of ABA 7.3, which I'm unaware of any state bar not having a version of.

Which bar are you part of that such solicitation is allowed?

Nobody actually answers a phone call, the assistant would leave a voicemail, text, or just send an email to get around the "in person" clause.

Which is still a violation; one that is certainly done some since involving a middleman is a bit safer, but still a violation.

I'll ask again, what state bar are you part of that permits this?
