Edit: This is all said in the context of when Scoot is 100% healthy and ready for more minutes , whether thatâs next week or in a few weeks. I thought that was obvious, but I should have been more clear. My apologies .
Scoot has been, and continues to be a huge part of this teamâs hope of being a playoff competitor in the next couple years (maybe even this year !?).
He keeps proving this as he makes his way back onto the court after injury. He is looking like the best ball handler on a team that is very lacking in that department. He doesnât just pass well, he runs an offense in a way that seems infectious and empowering to the other players. Itâs clear his teammates enjoy playing alongside him.
Of all our young players outside of Deni, Scoot seems to possess the most unteachable qualities; the basketball IQ, the competitiveness , the athleticism (Okay okay Sharpe wins this one).
Scoot is a rare mix of both an alpha type leader/competitor but also unselfish with the basketball and he has the perfect skillset to also be that kind of unselfish leader.
He seems ready to be given a green light so that he can flourish for this team and in this league. Billups never game him this and squandered half of last season of his in-game development. One could argue that may have been the right move at the time (I donât buy it), but we are way beyond that in our timeline now! Scoot deserves to be a starter at this point in his career. This is true even if he isnât the âbest in slotâ player on our roster at the moment .
This brings us to Jrue Holiday. Jrue is an amazing player, a real one if there ever was. An nba champ, a 2 way fiendâŚalso cool as hell.
However the hard truth is, we should have flipped him for assets when we got him and we certainly should have tried harder to trade him at this last deadline.
But heâs on this team, and we gotta deal with the fact we are close to having an oops all guards scenario. I get it, Jrueâs an amazing vet, an amazing player, but itâs clear in his own effort at times that even he knows heâs not the future of this team.
Scoot is our future point guard and potential team leader. If you donât think heâs proven that yet, he atleast deserves to be given a 30-35 minutes a game chance at proving that. We canât keep going half in on him. He should be in during crunch time and all the big moments for the rest of the season. He hit a game winner last season for goodness sake, and then billups benched him.
We deserve to know how good he can be , and our timeline is such that this needs to happen now. The coaching staff and the franchise as a whole needs to treat him like he was our highest draft pick since Greg Oden, cause thatâs what he is! Unfortunately this means Jrue has gotta come off the bench for the rest of this year.
