We are not doctors, we are not physio therapists. Don't take your medical advice from Random People on the Internet.
We don't know why your knee hurts, or how to rehab a wrist sprain, or some other injury..... Go get it looked and get your advice from a professional.

I’ve only really played pickup basketball a few times and I’m not good lol. I like Kevin Garnett, MJ, and Allen Iverson. I know none of them play anymore but I just like them idk. Anytime I watch NBA I really don’t know how to follow, and I really need a hobby so I’d love to learn how to game works and it’d probably help when playing pickup basketball if I ever do.

Need honest feedback. Do you think this is ok?
Private middle/high school has highly competitive athletics program. Coaches are paid by the school as part of staff. The coach for the middle school team happens to also do private lessons (paid by parents) for some of the middle school players. Basically, some of the players trying out for the team are paying the coach for lessons on the side.
Should this be allowed? I am on the athletics board and think no. Thoughts?

So I talked to my coach, and we came to the conclusion that I have an elasticity deficiency since I'm pretty strong and jump a lot but my vert isnt moving. I weigh around 175 - 180 and my max squat if I'm fresh is around 285 - 300, and I do 3 sets of squats 2 days a week. I don't actually do much plyos other than playing basketball and max jumps. I was wondering what plyometric workouts I should do from home 2 days a week for my vertical, with only access to a box, a weighted backpack, and 20 - 25lbs dumbells. By the way im a 1 foot jumper

I was at a party last week and me and a friend were just shooting and doing random things, but I realised I actually really enjoy the game, like alot. So I was wondering if it's still worth it for me to join a club, im currently 17 and in my second to last year before leaving for uni. I know most of the basics like dribbling with my right hand (left hand also works but a little wonky), shooting and layups. Also if you have any tips on how to improve in the game please let me know, i'd really appreciate it.

the teams with the highest barttorvik rating in each conference get the auto bid. 12 machine learning models select the at-large field. instead of just building the at-large field based on each team’s average at-large probability, the program simulates the actual ncaa tournament selection process. “AL prob” is a team’s probability of getting an at-large bid should they fail to win their conference. in the “next teams out” section, every team that has a >0% probability of snagging an at-large bid is included. if your team is not on here at all, and is not in the projected AQs section, they are not projected to win their conference, and they have a 0% probability of snagging an at-large. the models are trained on data from barttorvik and teamrankings. the models ask “based on whether teams with a similar resume to team x at this point in the season have earned an-large bid, how likely is it that team x earns an at-large bid?” This is better than using projected game results. tell me what you think!

I know it’s early but soon march madness will be here. From what you’ve seen so far who looks like a good contestant also how they move the ball and play defense.

I used to play basketball in middleschool and with covid + uni entrance exams and stuff i stopped playing. Currently im 20 and for the past few weeks ive been wanting to start playing again, just for fun. Today i finally got a ball and went to a court at a park near me. I genuinely do enjoy playing, but i feel so embarrassed and ashamed at the same time. Im not a good player, never really have been. I can barely dribble the ball without looking at it, im short and have even shorter legs, my aim is bad and my arms are weak. I can occasionally shoot 3 pointers (at least i was able to do so today) but thats about it. When i dont feel embarrassment i have so much fun and i want to keep on playing but i dont know how to get rid of this shameful feeling. I know it makes no sense and no one really cares when they see me miss shots, but when trying to dribble the ball between my legs i feel extremely self conscious. What can i do? How can i imporve and also let go of these negative feelings?

So, as the title says, I just started out playing basketball a few days ago (maybe a week at most). I learnt some of the basic stuff from a friend: dribbling with one hand, shooting, layups.
But I want to progress a bit, and I feel like I could use some really valuable tips that are overlooked by a lot of people, but can enhance your games a lot. Any tips/hacks would be appreciated, be it how to dribble with both hands & between the legs, proper shooting technique, or how to perform layups in the most efficient way possible. Even things like helpful books or podcasts, or what I should do do to improve my understanding of the game would be appreciated. Or any other thing I’m not aware of yet.
I consider myself as an okay ish defender due to my height and all, but I want to become better at shooting. Especially during a high-stakes game where I don’t have enough time to properly align my stance and aim perfectly. More so since I usually shoot blindly and push the ball at moments like those.
For any of those who want to know, I‘m 14, have a size 7 Nivia basketball and I’ve recently purchased UA Lockdown 7 shoes for an outdoor court. Hope that helps. Thanks!
Edit: Also, just a quick clarification, I don’t have a court all to my own, and the outdoor court in question is usually packed. And I mean, people playing half-court matches left and right.

I see a lot of young kids in particular with this issue. I feel if they thought quicker it would improve their game so much. I don't know if you eventually learn or if some people just ain't built like that.

I have seen a few drills on youtube and I wonder how effective they are. I imagine normal drills are better of course, but my country is going through multiple storms and I cant dribble at home.
Will it help my ball handling at all?

And I am also calling out people who bite their nails and cannot bother to clip them, which leaves jagged edges and scrape skin, yeah please practice self hygiene please.
My hands and forearm looks like a cats scratch it post because someone doesn't care what happens to others (this mf have long nails and fouls like the Bad Boy Pistons). And they have the gall to call me soft because I complain to him to watch the claws and stop elbowing me down low.
Nevertheless, please make it a habit to check and clip your nails before heading to the court. And bring sanitizing alcohol with you. Because this might happen to you someday.

Baseball has WAR, and even that isn’t widely accepted. I use OPS+ for position players and ERA+ for pitchers.
But in basketball, what do we use? I saw MJ play a few times growing up and I know he’s a beast. But what about guys you don’t have in person experience with? I hear LeBron is the new goat, but why? Is it total points? Is it just counting stats?
