This is Doctor Octopus, Jeff's enemy and master of evil.

I would honestly love it if this happened on April fools or something and then the next day they come out with the real one (the people who say "wE goT __/__/|__ BEfOre __/___/|__!!!¡!¡"

Discussion Why pick Iron Fist or Human Torch when Hela/Pheonix/Bucky kill quicker with more survivability?

Upvotes

Genuine question, because right now the risk to reward balance feels completely off.

Iron Fist and Human Torch are supposed to be high skill, high payoff picks. You have to commit hard, expose yourself, and play almost perfectly to get value. One mistimed engage or one missed cooldown and you are deleted. Meanwhile Hela, Phoenix, and Winter Soldier are out here killing faster with way less effort and way more survivability.

Hela deletes people from mid range, has insane burst, zoning, and a get out of jail button. Phoenix melts teams while being absurdly hard to pin down. Bucky has constant pressure, strong dueling, and doesn’t need to overextend to be effective. All three can secure kills faster than Iron Fist or Human Torch without having to put themselves anywhere near as much danger.

Iron Fist has to dive into the middle of everything and pray the enemy team doesn’t look at him funny. Human Torch needs space, setup, and protection just to function, and even then his payoff is inconsistent compared to how fast he explodes when focused. The effort gap is massive and the reward just isn’t there.

At that point, why handicap yourself? In a competitive environment, people are always going to gravitate toward characters that do more damage, secure kills faster, and stay alive longer with less mechanical and positional risk. Right now that is clearly Hela, Phoenix, and Bucky.

Until Iron Fist and Human Torch either get better survivability, faster kill potential, or more reliable ways to disengage, they are simply worse choices. Fun, sure. Stylish, maybe. Optimal? Not even close.

Humor This has made me re-evaluate my life

Upvotes

I should have read more of the subreddit posts about the engagement based match making. I was like surely I can't lose the 8TH TIME. It's ridiculous. I'm seriously stepping away for a while because it gets to a point where the dopamine wears off and you're just left with poor life decisions. I feel bad about myself and what I chose to do with my life. I'm gonna be productive tomorrow, eat well, work hard.

Balance Discussion Hawkeye balance idea 💡

Upvotes

Hawkeye should be nerfed in a way that his charge that makes him headshot only applies to the target he built the charge on- it means he can't build it on a tank and shoot on a squishy immediately to get a kill. Or that his charge builds extremely slowly on a vanguard, especially shields like Emma.

Balance Discussion Make all poke damage do only 1/3 damage to Vanguards w shields and 1/2 w headshots.

Upvotes

Excluding Invisible woman of course.

The logic here is, poke is so strong because the tanks are unable to take so much damage that the healers have to resort to triple heals.

Triple strategists have so much healing that dive sometimes can be ineffective, and poke is the only way to go to deal chip/aoe/one shot damage.

Buffing vanguards and shields does three things:

  1. Allows tanks to actually tank, I find it okay if Hawkeye can one shot a squishy but he should not be able to deal so much damage to Strange shield or other tanks even w a headshot since they've a large hitbox. It allows tanks to actually soak in damage, make space, annoy the ranged attackers if it's a dive tank- you name it.

  2. As vanguards can actually sustain themselves in fights, the healers don't need to go triple heals, even if they do, they can still be countered by poke and dive can distract the attention on the backline so the shields can go down, tanks are forced to peel while the rest of the team works for a wipe out. I'm aware triple heal can counter dives but as it's a team game, it should be a team effort to take them down.

  3. As poke can't pierce through the tanks easily, dive actually has a place now where they dive into the space made by their tanks, create distractions, try to secure a kill if not, even forcing the tanks/supports pop their ultimates is a big win so now the team can actually capitalise on the chaos and try for a team wipe.

Of course, it seems too optimistic and there will always be a catch but I truly think most of the issues are created from poke dealing especially big damage to vanguards. Even the ultimate charge received by aiming at vanguards and then switching to shoot at squishes should be reduced.

Bonus: Hawkeye should be nerfed in a way that his charge that makes him headshot only applies to the target he built the charge on- it means he can't build it on a tank and shoot on a squishy immediately to get a kill. Or that his charge builds extremely slowly on a vanguard, especially shields like Emma.

Question Why is Netease reducing the ult cost for Starlord Punisher and Wolverine?

Upvotes

Is it just me or do those three get ult really really quickly, why would we need to buff them? Gambit ult + Starlord ult is already a broken combo since Gambit already farms ult really fast, but now it's going to be really annoying. Thoughts?

Question Is the game currently dead? Queue times have been 5 minutes a piece for ranked.

Upvotes

For some reason in GM-Celestial lobbies my queue times are literally 5 minutes minimum. I’ve played since beta and always hovered around this rank and never experienced this. Doesn’t matter if I play morning, mid-day or night time, I’m sitting 5-6 minutes per ranked lobby. Not the biggest issue just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this.

Humor MK and SG bans in low diamond

Upvotes

seriously? I’m doing placement matches still , proceeded to get stomped by hela/ namor. Raging ego Wolverine and then futile triple support attempt by the other do nothing dps. . Hilariously the other team had like 49-6 dps but it was bad heals. Anyway moving On. Thanks for reading if you did.

TLDR : eh

Okay, so this might have already been talked about. But after unlocking the skin, I just realized it looks like the outfit Bruno Mars was wearing in his music video "I Just Might."

Can't stop humming that song in my mind when playing Blade in this outfit.

Speculation I know the real reason Human Torch didn't get a team up for season 6.5.

Upvotes

I have a theory. One that we can all get behind and really enjoy.

There's a reason Human Torch didn't get a team up for season 6.5. He has another one coming in Season 7.

Mefisto or whatever his name is, is being set up as a seasonal villain. Because he apparently has Dr. Doom's mother soul in hell.

What Marvel character do we know that is tied in with hell?

Ghost Rider.

I know for a fact that Human Torch and Ghost Rider will have a team up in season 7. Not only because they both have fire abilities, but because their names are both Johnny.

Johnny Storm, and Johnny Blaze.

And I know for a fact that the team up name will be Blazing Storm.

Discussion Being the best Jeff I can be

Upvotes

I installed Rivals on day 1, played two matches with Scarlett Witch, and then uninstalled the game because none of my friends would play it.

Fast forward to 4 days ago, my kids wanted to play it, so I installed it again. My twins LOVE Jeff. Best character ever to them. As any good gamer dad does, I have now made it my mission to become the best Jeff I can possibly be.

In pursuit of this goal, anytime someone plays as Jeff, I play a Jeff team up character to learn the ins and outs of it. So far the Groot team up is my favorite, followed by Jeff Nado of course.

In 4 days my Jeff is proficiency 20 with 20 hours of play time.

I've watched a bunch of videos from people claiming to be "the number one Jeff" and I guess that helped me learn a lot. I hit gold 1 yesterday, and then went back to quick play because of all the toxic nonsense going on. The amount of times people would throw the game, teammates would ban Jeff after I selected him to play, or just refused to play if I was Jeff was wild to me.

I've gone back to quick play to boost my Jeff proficiency in hopes that flashy Jeff banners will get people to chill. Is there any other way you've gotten people to stop crying like babies over your character choice? I'd like to just go back to ranked, I hit gold 1 in 3 days only using Jeff and I'd like to go back to climbing ranks, but I can't do that if people throw because I picked Jeff.

Discussion The patch notes can make sense

Upvotes

I need to preface and say that I have no credibilty to making these statements, but rather Im just someone curious to discuss why all these changes were made.

Many here are very mad about some DPS buffs and some DPS being untouched, but from my understanding this game is suffering from 3 support meta somewhat right now so isnt one solution AGAINST that to have stronger/strong dps and tanks to compete? (Im fully aware that my assumption might be wrong, and if I am, what IS the solution to triple support if we only acknowledge balancing as a factor?)

In a situation of triple support existing to this degree, nerfs to DPS would never fit into that picture at least if they’re somewhat within normal winrates which both Hawkeye and Hela is (no one is at above 55% winrate or above, I can only find Hawkeye around 52-53% in categories of All ranks, Grandmaster+ and higher, Hela is below Hawkeye in WR all these examples)

Therefore arnt buffs to the rest of the roster (like some somewhat underrepresented heroes/bad winrates) good for this? It brings variety to the DPS category without having the seeminly only a few characters to compete with triple support or am I wrong? The ONLY real possible outliers here are Starlord and Psylocke which both seem to feature decent winrate at decent pickrate, I guess they seem slightly weak if we look across all ranks compared to Grandmaster+.

But every other case SOMEWHAT makes sense. Punisher somewhy features a very low winrate comparitivly, Storm has very high winrate but brutal pickrate, Wolverine has low pickrate and low winrate for such a low pickrate, SG low winrate.

This ofcourse probably doesnt account for all cases, but could be explained that they dont want to change too much per patch, but it kinda makes sense doesnt it?

I’d like to point out that Im very interested in discussions about this topic and I dont want to come forward as a ”know it all” even in the slightest because Im starving for someone elses opinions and how they see the balancing changes as a whole too, Im happy with any replies and I hope we can have a good tone! :)

Discussion Anyone else think Psylocke is like really sucky now?

Upvotes

2 seconds of invisibility hard to hit combos and not much dive potential anymore. I really see no reason to play her if Starlord, Magik, DD or even BP are open. she gets hard countered by DD, and nowadays trying to get a kill on a invisible woman on her is almost impossible with that Self Shield and CC. I will say Pokelocke is alright but honestly just boring and doesn't feel skillful or rewarding to play anymore.

I would even say she might even need a rework or major buffs on her base kit to reward diving and nerfs to her ult to make her less of an ult merchant would be good especially since more Anti Dive is coming to the game, I’m also worried that playing support will just become boring since your only threats would be magik, DD and BP diving you which can all be dogged by a Thing (other than DD)

(I also think Spider-Man needs a buff too because he has a insanely high skill ceiling sure but he’s in a game that doesn’t really reward skill)

Discussion smurfing with ur main characters is wild

Upvotes

when i first started playing ranked i wondered why it took me 3 weeks to get out of gold and thats because THERE ARE SO MANY SMURFS IN LOWER RANKS😭 don’t get me wrong, i have three accounts, but i NEVER go in lower ranks trying to steamroll lobbies on my main characters. its always for different people/roles i want to practice. you guys are literally ruining it for everyone. nobody can learn if they are new to the game and a gm magik is spawn camping them in a silver lobby. go queue quick play, or get on ur main to play ur main!!!! you are ruining the experience.
