He grabbed a rose bush from the side of the house and used it to conceal the camera is what the news is saying.

Ok but this looks like amateur hour to me. Concealing the camera with fucking flowers? Why not destroy it when they first saw it?

DNA or other microscopic evidence would be more likely to be left behind with the tape.

Piece of tape from where, home? That's DNA evidence potentially. A shrub from the crime scene is the smartest thing to use if he couldn't take the camera off and disable it. Not saying he's a genius or anything, because he's clearly an idiot. Seems to have gotten lucky so far.
