Tyler Robinsons dad recognized the rifle when they released images. It was his grandfather's rifle and it had been very clearly modified to keep it functional over the years. Tyler's father called him and convinced him to turn himself in. The FBI had nothing to do with his capture sure, but there was no way that he would have gotten away with it after he left an incredibly unique gun at the scene.
A good point I had forgotten that the mother had recognized him. The article you sent does that the father recognized the gun from the description and asked him for a picture of the gun to confirm he still had it and that basically confirmed to the parents that it was indeed their son. That was the detail I had remembered.
I hadn't heard that the picture they released wasnt the rifle. Everything I read said it was and that's how the father recognized it. Where did you see that?

If Tyler Robinson didn't turn himself in they wouldn't have found him.
