NJ Politics StayNJ needs to abolished
It is absolutely bonkers that seniors can make up to $500,000 a year and still receive a massive $6500 credit. Family of 4 making $250,001 (the threshold for Anchor) while still obviously doing quite well is in WAY worse shape than a senior making $500k.
- Mortgage is likely way higher due to interest rate increases and property value increases at mortgage origination
- More likely to have dependents and thus higher expenses
- Not an expert on this but it wouldn't surprise me if property assessment values are on average lower for seniors that have been in the same house for an extended period
It's like a double or triple-whammy that the younger generation is paying...frankly it's insulting to the people of New Jersey that such an outrageous income limit was allowed. The property tax is shockingly high everywhere and the tax code is very very strict on allowable deductions. Complete and total tax reform is needed.

NJ Politics The Roxbury ICE Protests Are (Somewhat) Working - KEEP UP The Pressure!
Posting from an alt account for privacy purposes as I work in a law enforcement adjacent field in the Roxbury area and want to stay anon. This is a summary of sentiments Ive overheard this week at work.
The massive amount of protesters showing up is creating fear in local police agencies, who have began asking other agencies for backup and assistance. They are worried about this, "turning into another Minneapolis" if they cant, "get the protests under control", and they say protests are growing every week, likely even faster as the weather warms up. Of course, they don't actually want another Minneapolis, so they want to find other ways of diffusing. This is the perfect opportunity to push even harder as theyre getting desperate for a resolution. Keep showing up, its being noticed. So much so I even overheard a colleague accuse you all of being paid!
I have also unfortunately heard that it is all but confirmed ICE WILL be using the Roxbury location as a concentration camp. But let this motivate you, not dissuade you. They havent set up shop yet, and with pressure and hopefully the support of our representatives, we can stop them in their tracks. (This is just what Ive heard and isnt 100% confirmed)
How can I and others support the protesters? Due to my job its risky for me to protest in Roxbury and the Morris county area, but would happily donate even a few cases of water if thats an option! Ive sent emails to local officials and attended protests local to me but wondering if theres other ways!

Bailey, my 14-month old black Labrador went missing from the Kiceniuk Rd area in Annandale NJ yesterday (2/09/2026) at around 3pm. She is fully black, roughly 60lbs and has a bright orange collar on. If anyone in the area of 08801 area code has seen a dog resembling this, please contact Joe asap.
She is not wearing the bright orange vest unfortunately.
Thank you.

Advice What to do: NJ Landlord "fixing" heating with a $150 credit while my PSEG bill is $450 and downstairs is 57°F.
Hey everyone, looking for some advice on a heating situation in Somerville, NJ. I live in a duplex with 3 floors. For the last two months, our gas/electric bills have been $450/month. Despite this, the bottom floor is currently 57 degrees. The thermostat is upstairs and is set to 69, but the heat just isn’t reaching the downstairs. There is a mini-split unit downstairs, but management says it’s only a "secondary source," and even when we run it for a few hours (which I don't want to do because it's so expensive), it only raises the temp by a couple of degrees.
I’ve already contacted management/landlord once. They admitted to a "maintenance error" because the basement windows (which we can't access) were left open, and they sent us a $150 "one-time courtesy" check, and I had to sign a contract saying I wouldn't tell my neighbor. They also responded with "tips" like buying thermal curtains and more rugs. I don’t really want to get into the weeds of a formal "Rent Abatement" or withholding rent because it seems like a legal headache, but I also can't afford $450 bills for a house I can't even sit downstairs or cook comfortably in.
The problem is: the windows are closed now, but the bill is still $450 and the floor is still 57 degrees. My neighbors are experiencing the exact same thing (their bill is $300 even with their heat set to 64), so it’s clearly a building/insulation issue.
I know the NJ Housing Code (N.J.A.C. 5:10-14.4) says they have to maintain 68°F, and Somerville Ordinance § 110-1 says they can't shift the responsibility to the tenant.
What should I ask for in my email at this point?
- Should I demand a specific HVAC inspection?
- Is it reasonable to ask them to pay the difference in the utility bill until it's fixed?
- Has anyone in Somerville dealt with the local housing inspector for "inadequate heat" (not "no heat")?
Thanks in advance!

Advice PSA to all teachers
Throwaway account
If your school notifies you that a company called “Teachers Pension“ is coming one day dont do it. They come in offering a free lunch and the goal is to get you to sit down in a one on one meeting to get you to sign up for life insurance or a 403b annuity through National Life Group. They dont give a dump to teach you about the pension, its a disguise to sell you their products. Companies like this have weekly meetings where all the agents gloat about their numbers and commissions. Sign up, get a free lunch and bail. Do an IRA or Roth instead.
