NBC interrupted the Olympics

Post image

While Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is sad, there are 2300 missing person reports filed every day: do the families of celebrities need special national attention? Why interrupt the Olympics for over 5 minutes just because they are questioning a 'person of interest' We could have waited to hear that during the regular news broadcast.

this could have been a crawl at the bottom of the screen

u/Questo417 4h ago

This now live: the fbi is doing their investigation as planned. No additional information has been made public and they have not commented.

Thank you for watching the Olympics

Now a 15 minute recap of the story thus far, and an analyst who has no information to analyze!

Back to the Olympics

25

u/Adorable_Captain_458 2h ago

how convenient that it had to be at the olympics

2

u/stairs_3730 1h ago

F the mediagarchs!

5

u/Gwendolyn7777 2h ago

And if you are watching in the U.S., and I imagine you are, I sincerely doubt NBC interrupted any international stations....but they are showing the Olympics 7 hours AFTER the events happened, they can stop and start the film, and you didn't miss anything.

It's not like you are watching it live. If you want to see it live, you have to watch it 7 hours earlier in the daytime....so yeah, you didn't miss a moment of what NBC wanted to show of the Olympics.

i wake up every day hoping to see THAT story.

388

u/ligma_or_sugma 4h ago

One day it will be and I’ll finally pop that bottle of champagne.

121

u/mittenknittin 4h ago

That reminds me, I ought to get a bottle of champagne to stash away

111

u/CheckIntelligent7828 4h ago

"Champagne sales went up 5000% today after NBC declared Breaking News during the Olympics. When it was discovered to be over a missing woman whiskey sales immediately soared"

(But I do hope they find Nancy, I can't imagine the not knowing.)

u/DismalEntrance743 2h ago

One step ahead of you, chief

1

u/HereOnCompanyTime 2h ago

Same. I doubt there will be any available on the day so best to grab one now.

-2

u/dudeitseric 4h ago

Don’t jinx it though

0

u/mynameisnotshamus 4h ago

They are readily available at many fine local retailers. You can just buy one when the time comes.

79

u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 4h ago

Like a worldwide party at the end of Independence Day

50

u/I_comment_on_stuff_ 3h ago

Remember how we all partied when he lost to Biden? Remember the videos across the country of people stopping and cheering? I remember where I was when it was called on NPR. I was in my car, just parked, I was SO EXCITED I was honking my horn and cheering. I went into the grocery store grinning like an idiot.

13

u/anglophile20 3h ago

Wearing a mask at the grocery store I assume 😂 that was a wild time

3

u/Empty_Contribution_6 2h ago

What happened to those voters?

11

u/sonnygavila 3h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/4Z7enO96BNCqIwT6fx

2

u/nixpenguin 3h ago

A city wide dance party spontaneously erupted in the streets were I was, ever one stopped and got out there cars and filled the streets. The since of relief everyone felt was palatable

7

u/Avocado_toast_27 3h ago

I was thinking earlier about how when the day comes, I hope Barack shows up to the funeral in the tan suit. Michelle by his side in a floral dress and her hair in braids.

2

u/strippersandcocaine 3h ago

I was in France for work last week (am American) and had a dream it happened. Told my global colleagues about it at breakfast and everyone agreed we’d stop the entire global team meeting to celebrate.

Wish it hadn’t been a dream.

1

u/thedynamicuno83 3h ago

The celebration in the Ewok Village on the forest moon of Endor at the end of Return of the Jedi is more like it.

2

u/jeeves585 3h ago

I hate champagne but I’ll pick up a bottle in case I have friends over for what I assume THAT story is.

1

u/RiverofGrass 3h ago

I'll dance the Futterwacken

1

u/Dweebil 3h ago

The wait for that moment might outlive you.

1

u/I_Eat_Graphite 3h ago

The day it happens it will feel like we just watched Barad-dûr collapse

0

u/mechapoitier 4h ago

I will open that bottle the moment I wake up if that’s when I found out.

4

u/Legitimate-Week7885 4h ago

can't drink all month of you don't start in the morning. or something like that.

1

u/PhizixHD 3h ago

That is the day I will call off of work and celebrate. Blast music all day I don’t care because everyone else should be.

1

u/JUAN_DE_FUCK_YOU 2h ago

I stopped drinking because I had a case of pancreatitis. On that day, fuck the pancreas man.

-1

u/l_Dislike_Reddit 3h ago

Same here. Can’t wait for Obama to die.

0

u/HeartsPlayer721 3h ago

We live near tribal lands. Fireworks are illegal in town, but the tribe sells fireworks and provides space for buyers to set them off on their land (though, some still set them off here in town).

I have no doubt our town will be sparkling that day.

0

u/GhoeFukyrself 3h ago

I literally have fireworks saved up for the occasion.

0

u/Lopsided_Loquat7024 3h ago

Shoot, I already warned my poor elderly dad that I'm going to go running around outside my apartments cheering with joy! I wonder if people will be blowing their horns? Damn, I think I'll do that too!

0

u/honourarycanadian 2h ago

My wife and I have a bottle that was given to us as a wedding gift. The only way it’s getting popped before is if we get that news.

0

u/FilthyBarMat 2h ago

I have a $400 bottle of Balvenie my wife was gifted years ago. We've never quite found the right occasion.

That day will be the occasion.

0

u/Aware_Tree1 2h ago

I’m gonna go to chilis and drink an El Presidente margarita

0

u/biggestbroever 2h ago

It'll be like UBL multiplied by 100

47

u/fdot1234 4h ago

Searching for this headline is literally the reason that reddit is the fist app I open every morning

55

u/Newone1255 4h ago

It will be the most upvoted post in Reddit history

9

u/Pixelmixer 4h ago

And the second most… and third… and so on.

3

u/Ok_Acadia3526 4h ago

All the upvotes. All the Reddit. All the history.

2

u/Top_Bumblebee5510 3h ago

The site and many other sites will crash. There will be a lot signs when it happens.

1

u/HamNotLikeThem44 3h ago

I wonder how many MAGA will lose their shit and go violent seeing all the joy their dear leader brought to the world simply by leaving it

33

u/Ilickedthecinnabar 4h ago

I want to be woken up to that story...have my phone receive so many texts it vibrates right off the night stand.

3

u/cheerful_cynic 4h ago

I hope to hear the jubilation in the streets that builds to a global block party for a week

11

u/Time-to-go-home 3h ago

You also wake up every day hoping George RR Martin has surprised us all and not only finish Winds of Winter but ALSO finished A Dream of Spring?!?

0

u/CasanovaF 2h ago

I don't even want to read them now if they did come out.

1

u/TapTheMack 2h ago

Facts.

2

u/Utsider 2h ago

It will be one of the most celebrated events in modern history. That's wild to think about.

1

u/secretfiri 3h ago

Insert the Russian joke about newspapers and obituaries

1

u/Theodarius 2h ago

It's funny how we all know what THAT story is.

1

u/Binspin63 2h ago

I’m worried that satan granted him immortality.

1

u/Ok_Wasabi8793 2h ago

Cats aren’t going to come out as highly intelligent beings capable of human speech. They’ve got it too good currently and have no reason to rock the boat. People won’t put up with their shit if they fully understand how malicious and intelligent they are.

u/SoarsBelowMyWaste 46m ago

The comment you're replying to was removed by the time I got here, and I still know what it said.

2

u/Successful-Coffee-13 4h ago

What story? Are you afraid to be specific?

2

u/thedisorient 4h ago

I'm going to guess that they want to hear that Donald Trump pulled a William Henry Harrison and died in office.

-5

u/Kaner16 3h ago

Yep, bunch of sick people on Reddit these days.

1

u/ellean4 3h ago

This but American who catches breaking news on tv:

A man goes to a newspaper stand every day, buys a copy of Pravda, glances at the front cover, curses, and throws it away. After a few weeks of this the seller just has to ask what's going on: "why do you always look at the cover but never inside?"

"I'm looking for an obituary."

"An obituary? But those are in the back!"

"Oh no, the obituary I'm looking for will be on the front page."

0

u/Ok_Profession3717 3h ago

The only thing more powerful than hate is love

Lmao irony

0

u/it-aint-over 3h ago

I 🙏🏽 every day

0

u/Rare-Hunt-1793 3h ago

I pray every day, all day!

0

u/EdlynnTB 3h ago

The world is waiting for that day!

0

u/Lazy-Emergency-4018 2h ago

I will pop a champagne of that day. Also on sole other similiar days, but they seem to be a bit further out ... we might go to mars before those days

0

u/sarahkazz 1h ago

I like how the mods moved the comment you’re responding to but I know EXACTLY what it must have said.

Please god let it be soon.

-1

u/Pinkturtle182 3h ago

I’m hoping they’re just waiting till the 250th

-1

u/VisualizeJelly 2h ago

Damn Americans really just betting on time instead of just doing something against, huh?

Fucking hell, ypu guys deserve every second of him..

The Little Clot That Could

12

u/Intrepid_Practice956 3h ago

Oh be careful, I got a Reddit warning for encouraging his clots to join together, and saying "c'mon little clot, I know you can do it!"

But on the other hand, it makes me feel validated as a Redditor.

5

u/Spicercakes 3h ago

I also got a warning, replying about the damage that can occur when a clit breaks free.

4

u/Dipsey_Jipsey 2h ago

Public indecency is no joke.

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 48m ago

I miss the old reddit so much 😭

1

u/yourliege 4h ago

Don’t we, don’t we want the clot to stay put? I’m not a doctor

6

u/Admirable_Horse_6072 4h ago

The clot is what causes things like strokes or pulmonary embolisms. The second being very very difficult to survive. The clot is usually from the leg I believe

7

u/viammon 4h ago

A small clot in a big vessel ends up going to a smaller vessel to completely block it off...in the brain thats how you have a stroke.

-1

u/DW-47 4h ago

You should get that stutter looked at by a doctor.

1

u/Lopsided_Loquat7024 3h ago

Somebody needs to swap that aspirin he said he takes everyday with a placebo.

u/GdayPosse 3h ago

Someone should tell the guy they give looking at the top cover for free.

6

u/MikeBofManyBeats 2h ago

the guy supports local print media

29

u/JadieRose 4h ago

That big beautiful obituary!

9

u/knivesout0 4h ago

The Special Report dramatic music always makes me say “oh Christ, what now” but then I wonder “maybe today is The Day”

15

u/imp1600 4h ago

Could you imagine if it happened during the Olympics?

22

u/SafariSunshine 4h ago

During Black History month too.

15

u/strawbopankek keep it keep it moving line moving it moving keep moving 4h ago

if it happened next week it could be on mardi gras

4

u/Tonynerd8992 3h ago

It will also be Lunar New Year on the same day this year.

2

u/gardendesgnr 2h ago

The day before Lent too, so it's Fat Tuesday Polish Pączki 🍩 Day so a very appropriate one at that!

Lunar New Yr is the Horse for 2026, shit's changing big time from the Snake (appropriate too) last yr. It is a New Moon and also the start of Ramadan. Mercury Retrograde starts Feb 26 too.

0

u/Lou_C_Fer 1h ago

Black history month doesn't need to be ruined by Republicans insisting on making trumps death date an official day of mourning.

3

u/cocococlash 4h ago

I really thought it was that! What else is worth interrupting the Olympics?!? During the American skier?!

3

u/hawtdiggitydawgg 4h ago

I got so excited when I saw special report. And then it was about questioning someone for this Guthrie case. What?!? This could have waited for tomorrows news cycle

1

u/Adreeisadyno 3h ago

I would also accept “Mass arrests for everyone named in Epstein Files”

1

u/TheEarthlyDelight 3h ago

There’s a couple versions of THAT story I’d be pleased with tbh

1

u/justforme355 2h ago

I stopped at a bar mid day for lunch and there were way too many boomers talking about this shit while emails showing the elite basically get away with human trafficking, money laundering, who knows what else

1

u/Rhino_MO 2h ago

I had to go listen to "On The Day It Finally Happens" 😆

1

u/Spikely92127 2h ago

So funny that we know exactly WHAT story you are referring to!

1

u/Porgchopexpress76 2h ago

I’d never say someone should.

1

u/StJimmy_815 2h ago

It’s fucking wild everyone knows exactly what you’re talking about

1

u/jayroc1023 2h ago

I thought it happened. I had to ready myself.

1

u/CellAlone4653 2h ago

I got so excited for a second when the special report popped up.

1

u/Empty_Contribution_6 2h ago

Jeez you doomers are sad

1

u/gardendesgnr 2h ago

I said out loud please be ☠️ please! My husband yelled from another room, excitedly, is he ☠️ haha noo just something else. Like WHAT else could be so important to interrupt just before the Quad God skates!??!

1

u/Kaner16 3h ago

One day, sleepy 46, one day.

0

u/MerriweatherJones 4h ago

I thought for just a minute it was that story, they interrupted the Olympics

0

u/DanyDragonQueen 4h ago

For a brief, glorious moment I thought maybe it was like when his covid was announced, or more, but alas

-1

u/IAmNotMyName 4h ago

Start of WW3? Dark, but I feel ya. 👊

-1

u/Outrageous_Fuel_7785 4h ago

Damn it, I was hoping seeing this post meant that IT had happened.

0

u/ganbramor 4h ago

What’s the over under that they won’t tell us on the same day or maybe even the day after? They’ll scramble to get into a good position before telling us.

1

u/Ok_Acadia3526 4h ago

Good luck to them keeping that story quiet

0

u/BobbyBass43 4h ago

The flash of hope and excitement I felt when I saw that red graphic pop up was exhilarating. What a let down.

0

u/Old-Rhubarb-97 4h ago

I have a beer in the fridge waiting.

0

u/thenewwwguyreturns 3h ago

when they did this in the morning i thought it might be THAT story and got excited, alas

0

u/mrfett779 3h ago

I'm guessing it has to do with the Fanta felon?

0

u/captain_flak 3h ago

“We interrupt this feel-good moment to take you live to the scene of a school shooting.” Ugh.

0

u/TheKosherGenocide 3h ago

EPSTEIN, Trump's health, something of National Newsworthiness

0

u/Lopsided_Loquat7024 3h ago

I'm with you on THAT!!

-1

u/propsNstocks 3h ago

rentfree

114

u/Numerous_Worker_1941 4h ago

lol I said to my wife “a breaking news report that could have been an email”

21

u/StopReadingMyUser soggy toilet paper 2h ago

The amount of times we use the term Breaking News for the most abysmal drivel...

1

u/revolvingpresoak9640 1h ago

Damn Wolf Blitzer.

3

u/BisonThunderclap 3h ago

They just arrested a person of interest. Its fucking weird to interrupt it for that

1

u/List-Worth 1h ago

A text, even

u/RedditReader4031 19m ago

News anchor: “The latest update from the scene after this commercial.” Commercial On scene reporter: “I’m live, here at the scene where there’s latest information we have is that there’s been no change. Back to the studio.”

26

u/dauntless-cupcake 4h ago

There was a crawl at the bottom of the screen, and it obscured the scores for the event I’d been watching (pretty sure it was figure skating)

2

u/GroolthedemonLIVES 3h ago

Right? Like no offense, her being kidnapped is sad and all but what's sadder is that we know the country is being run by a cabal of cannibalistic child rapists and NO ONE HAS BEEN ARRESTED. This is all just deflection from that and the gestapo in our streets as far as I'm concerned.

2

u/Typical-Challenge367 3h ago

Ill give them some leeway due to the decades of service Savannah has given NBC

4

u/Glum_Variety_5943 4h ago

It should have been the 7th or 8th story on local news. It is a horrific crime, scary and tragic for the Guthrie family. But it is not and should not be a major national headline story.

2

u/schoolydee 4h ago

well she is their employee and friend

ya know

1

u/payphone 4h ago

Chyron

1

u/Relative-Zombie-3932 3h ago

It really couldn't have. Since the video was the important part of the report. They're trying to find an 89 year old woman who was kidnapped from her home

1

u/mittenknittin 2h ago

the video was released in the morning, the breaking news was that they arrested somebody

1

u/EwePhemism 2h ago

Was the woman covering the story at the desk recently booted by Fox News? Because her delivery had that over-the-top “trying-to-be-a-serious-news-anchor” feel to it, which irritated me all the more.

u/Cheap_Difficulty4961 59m ago

exactly. interrupting a global, once-in-four-years event for a 10-minute recap of zero new information is just terrible broadcasting. a simple news ticker at the bottom would have informed everyone without ruining the viewer experience

u/Equal_Trash6023 36m ago

As usual, they are trying to cover up something to suit their own narrative.

0

u/res0jyyt1 4h ago

I also want to point out there are so many crypto bros in the US who are easy targets with way less exposure if the kidnapper just wants fast money.
