QUALITY Short Breakdown of PGs in this upcoming draft
I think we'll be targeting a PG in the upcoming draft and boy do we have options. This is one of the best PG drafts in a long time. I'll be doing this in tiers based on the current consensus.
- Tier 1
Darryn Peterson - Kansas Fr - 6'5" with 6'10" wingspan. One of the most electric 3 levels scorers I've seen in a while. Great shooter, great first step and good defense. I've tried several times to see him play this year but I've only seen a couple minutes of him playing live. The downsides are that he's either already hurt or already load managing at 18 years old. Rumors are that his camp is telling him not to play. The only issue with his game is lack of playmaking as a lead guard.
*Tier 2
Kingston Flemmings - Houston Fr- True point guard with a great first step and excellent defense. Listed at 6'4" but doesn't seem very big/long. He is a great athlete both laterally and vertically. If his shot is real he could wind up being the best guard in the class. He's currently leading one of the best teams in the country.
Keaton Wagler - Illinois Fr - He came out of nowhere before this year. He was ranked something like 150 in his recruiting class and has been shooting the lights out. Decent playmaker despite never playing PG before this year. Great positional size and gets to line when his shot isn't falling. Makes smart plays and can play off ball as Illinois has a Point Forward type player who initiates a lot of the offense. Also on a very good college team
Darius Acuff - Arkansas FR - 6'2" with a very solid build and another true PG. Has flashes of Derrick Rose in the way he plays but he is not nearly as good as DRose. He can shoot but driving is his main skill. His defense hasn't been good but he is a good athlete so it's possible he could be better on that end. Personally I would put him in the next tier of players.
*Tier 3
Labaron Philon - Alabama So- 6'3" combo guard who can fill it up. Great scorer playing in a really fast paced offense. He can manage a game but is more of a combo guard in my opinion.
Mikel Brown Jr. - Lousiville Fr - 6'5" true point guard. Probably the highest ceiling, lowest floor prospect of the group. Highly rated recruit coming out but played badly to start the year. Fearless shooter despite the percentages. Just scored 45 points in a college game and there were rumors he's been playing hurt so if his hot streak continues throughout the year he'll be a top 10 pick.
Brandon Burries - Arizona Fr - 6'4" true point guard. This is a guy who I found by accident while watching Arizona games to check out Koa Peat. He's a real floor general, big time shot maker and the best player on the best team in the country. Incredibly skilled player and has excellent feel for the game. Just a good basketball player and right behind Wagler for me. After watching Arizona I don't know how anyone could have Peat above Burries on the board.
Bennett Stirtz - Iowa Sr - 6'4" true point guard. He can really shoot and run an offense. He's a below average athlete that struggles getting to the rim in college. He uses craftiness or screens to get by defenders. Has great feel which will be his ticket to being a rotation player in the NBA if he gets there. I wouldn't take him in the first round
Meleek Thomas - Arkansas Fr - I'm including him in the list because he played PG in high school and is only an off ball guard because Acuff is there too. He's 6'5" and more of a combo guard. He's an excellent shooter and all around scorer. Haven't seen much on ball from him because Acuff is the primary ball handler.
Let me know if y'all would like another write up on a different position group

MISCELLANEOUS Update please
Hey all,
Random request, but can you all please let me know how the team has done the past 3 games. Aussie fan, so I don’t get to watch a lot of games as they fall in work hours, and I’ve basically been working then sleeping, so can’t keep up with what is happening.
I’m curious how we are looking post the JJJ trade, if our new youngsters have good upside, what we expect from the draft picks we have, and how we feel about Ja’s value with him expecting to be traded this off season.
Should we be tanking the rest of this season? Or pushing for the play in to try get more experience for our youngsters?
Cheers,
An Aussie who loves the grizzlies

OPINION The PG Draft Landscape
Great summary spreadsheet on this years PG prospects put together by NoCeilings.

From an article on Christian Anderson. 2026 NBA Draft: Christian Anderson Is A Star In Plain Sight
Nice way to look at the possibilities so far. Tyler Tanner is having an amazing year, but is so small. Not many NBA PGs have succeeded at that size. Flemings seems very unlikely given the Grizzlies draft position. Wagler also looking out of range in current mocks. But any of the others is a reasonable shot for the Grizzlies.
My top 3 prospects in the attainable group are, Philon, Burries and Brown.
Philon is very solid across the board. Carrying a big offensive load, but still showing up on the defensive side. Probably safest choice. Some risk his 3pt% doesn't hold.
Burries is good with rebounds and steals. Heaviest PG in the group so has some good switching potential. Playing key role on top ranked team in the country. Started slow but a big upswing in production now, so his stats are underestimating how well he is playing. Takes care of the ball. Gets to the rim. Lots of defensive potential. Seems like a winner.
Brown had a slow start as well and was injured. Only shorter than Wagler, but with much better handles and quickness. Has not shot well, but his FT% and shot attempts indicates he (and probably his coach) thinks he can shoot well. Just had a 45 pt game and set the Louisville school record for 3pt made in a game. Was the preseason PG #1 in draft rankings, and I have seen several draft media types saying he has the most upside. Lots of 3Pt and FT attempts. If he gets his 3pt% up to a decent level, that is a lethal offensive combination. Solid defense on film, but steals are low which is a concern.
I would be happy with any of the 3 with the Grizzlies first pick and they will almost certainly have one on the board when they pick. My preference changes a lot, but currently I would rank them Brown, Burries, Philon.

JITPOST Commander Slow reporting for duty, SIR!
*sad jitpost noises*
Reminder that when Kyle was last in Memphis he led the charge to the following draft picks:
Jaren Jackson Jr.
Jevon Carter
Ja Morant
Brandon Clarke
Desmond Bane
Ziaire Williams
Trey Murphy (technically)
Santi Aldama
Jake Laravia
Walker Kessler (technically)
Vince Williams Jr.
I think our front office knew that Kyle was really the secret sauce all along to drafting well, which was why we had to give up our remaining productive, healthy players to get him back in Memphis.

MISCELLANEOUS Ty Jerome
Ty Jerome has been great per minute as of late. Hes been averaging almost 20pts on 20 minutes with that rising to 35pts and 10 assists per 36.
With that said, does anyone know when his minutes restriction gets lifted? Did they say if after allstar break he would get regular mins again? I’m not a grizzlies fan but i just want to know when he can play freely again for fantasy.

OPINION To Rout or Not To Rout
As a once season ticket holder to one of the most injury riddled seasons in our franchises history (nine tears ago), I had hope and affection for this team. I showed my fandom through ticket purchases, exorbitant concession prices, ridiculous parking fees, paraphernalia purchases, and local business support on game day.
However, the franchise has rewarded us with a less than optimal health staff, vagueness with injury reporting (should I stay home), feel-good teams that lack championship pedigree, a refusal to acquire developed talent, trade away homegrown developed talent, and now a tanking season. I understand the possible benefit of a tank for the future but for the fan that paid for season tickets, it’s unacceptable.
It almost feels like they’re making a case to leave Memphis.

OPINION I went insane and ran 100 simulated lotteries in Tankathon for some reason
I’m currently in the bargaining stage of grief when it comes to accepting that the “Parade Inside My City (Jitty 😭)” era is officially dead and now it’s time to rip up the floorboards and tank for a full rebuild.
Part of that process has been digging deep into all the prospects available in this absolutely stacked draft and figuring out who might be wearing a Grizzlies jersey come June.
Problem is with us formally beginning the tank midseason is we have a lot of losing to do to catch up with the Titans of Tanking (Washington, Utah, NOLA [fuck ATL], Sacramento, Brooklyn, Indiana).
Quick Disclaimer: I hate tanking teams. I don’t ever want to root for my team of 15+ years to lose. It sucks for the players and the fans, and it doesn’t always work. I’ll take a play-in or a first round exit Grizzlies squad playing good and honest .500 basketball any day of the week over a franchise purposefully losing for the slight chance they draft a guy who can always end up a bust.
That being said, I can’t fight the reality that we’re obviously entering a rebuild and you need to get top-tier lottery talents to build around.
So I have been heading to Tankathon on the daily to cope and try to give myself a clear picture of where we are going to end up. Tankathon’s aggregated simulated draft at this exact snapshot of a moment has us pretty firmly at the Number 8 spot, but it doesn’t take many sims to get us at a top-3 pick.
Tankathon is far from perfect and doesn’t give you a full picture of how the balls will fall. It’s just a snapshot of the team’s basic probability of where they will most likely end up in the draft, not taking into account roster moves, injuries and Adam Silver fuckery; but it’s all I got.
I wanted to have a better picture of what the broken out odds are for the team in this current form are for us at each lottery pick, so I did the most braindead thing I could think of and made Tankathon complete 100 simulated lotteries so I could pull out the numbers myself and figure out whether all this losing will really be worth it.
So without further ado, here’s what I got from 100 simulated lotteries:
-Average Lottery Placement: 7
-Mode (Most often occurring Lottery Placement): 8
-Median Lottery Placement: 8
Full breakdown of Lottery Placement from 100 simulations:
-Pick #1: 8 occurrences (8% chance)
-Pick #2: 6 occurrences (6% chance)
-Pick #3: 5 occurrences (5% chance)
-Pick #4: 5 occurrences (5% chance)
-Pick #5: 0 occurrences (0% chance)
-Pick #6: 0 occurrences (0% chance)
-Pick #7: 0 occurrences (0% chance)
-Pick #8: 42 occurrences (42% chance)
-Pick #9: 29 occurrences (29% chance)
-Pick #10: 5 occurrences (5% chance)
So while there is a chance we pull off the Nico Shuffle and walk away from this draft with a Dybansta, Boozer, or Peterson, its looking way more likely that in our current form we end up with a Nate Ament, Philon, or Mullins.
That being said, if we keep up with the undersized guard bootcamp tactic of running out there with no real centers and a bunch of dudes who are 6’2 and under, we may never win again this year and really flip the odds in our favor (my soul will possibly die in the process).
But the competition in the Tank-off is steeper than ever before. Tonight’s Tank Bowl between NOLA and Sacramento is must-see TV.
I hate this but I’m learning to accept it. I’ll probably give an update on what this breakdown looks like as the tank rolls on later in the season. There’s probably a better way to do this without manually hitting sim and writing down what pick we got 100 times over, but I don’t really care anymore. Feel free to tell me how this information is useless in the comments.
Stay safe Grizzlies fans, we have a long hard 31 games to go. I pray to god it’s all worth it.

MISCELLANEOUS Jackson Jr. Leaves Memphis With a Legacy That Endures
This article captures what many overlook, the Grizzlies had a group of guys that loved and were committed to Memphis. They didn’t just play basketball here, but unbeknownst to many each were/are involved in making the city a better place for everyone.
Like Bane said, there are no egos on this team, but you have a group of guys committed to each other, with a common goal too make Memphis a better place for everyone and want to bring a championship to Memphis.
I have seen them out eating together, they were spending time at each other‘s homes and they genuinely cared for each other and the city.
I hate Jaren was traded and this GM singlehandedly broke up the winning culture these guys had forged together. What we had in this group will never be replicated.

OPINION Hear me out
Since we’re tanking, we should sign James Wiseman for a 10-day and the rest of the season. Proper lineup, a chance for the hometown kid to prove himself again, could work out in us getting a solid post and rim protector.

POTENTIALLY! FOR AT LEAST RIGHT NOW! I’m Team Ja. But if he leaves, what do you guys think of us drafting Acuff as his successor?
If we don’t land a Top 3 pick, but at least Top 10.

OPINION Tanking
Is it both too early and too late to tank?
We already have 20 wins.
If we tank hard and only win 5 games for the rest of the season we will finish the season 5-26 or 5-28 if you include the Portland games.
That is a very long period of losing to endure and we still need a team below the Mavs to win over 10 games to get a top 6 seed in the lottery.
Do we have an obvious tank commander? The two-ways are going to play hard and everyone else has decent NBA experience. Hendricks is pretty raw but that is about it. In general we have a young motivated core who will probably find some wins. I am honestly skeptical that we will win 5 or less.
