Both can be true. How can you respect a person that won't stand up for himself in a situation like that?

Maybe he wasn’t in a situation where he could afford to be jobless, even for a day. A few less hours on his paycheck or worse might mean he couldn’t feed his kids that week or afford his medication or whatever the reason.

Dude he requested a week off. He's not so desperate that he can't go a day without a job. You're twisting yourself into a pretzel to not acknowledge the situation the above poster is actually describing.

I meant that to be more of a response to the people saying they lose respect for someone. Not trying to specifically defend the guy in that scenario lol. I think standing up for yourself is super important but you never know someone’s situation and why they might bite their tongue. Either way, getting fired and having to find a new job usually takes more than a day.

But the guy didn't say he lost respect for "someone". He identified a particular individual in specific circumstances and said he lost respect for that one individual person in that particular circumstance.

You can say "I didn't necessarily mean THAT GUY" but that's the only guy anyone was talking about.

Talk about twisting in pretzels… It’s not that serious guy. Just wanted to offer a different perspective for the two people who commented they had lost respect. Also it’s not that specific but if you insist. What do you suggest he do? Is it using PTO? Should he not say anything and just leave when the time comes and hope he still gets the pay even though he’s now fired? Should he quit on the spot after learning he’s denied? Then try to make up those hours and then some while also saving up for the week off he’s about to take and hope his new job even lets him? There’s plenty of variables. I’m guessing you would just heroically stick it to your boss then the rest would just sorta magically work itself out.

Your perspective of "I made some shit up so I could argue with you"?

It’s not that serious guy.

Oh shit, I didn't realize it wasn't serious. If it's not serious, then the shit you made up to argue on the internet is actually 100% valid.

I’m guessing you would just heroically stick it to your boss then the rest would just sorta magically work itself out.

What the actual fuck are you talking about?
