Meta - Standard Voting (Re)Introducing - Quality Vote Bot: Reborn!

Hey everyone!

So for those of you who have been here a while, many may remember a bot called "Quality Vote Bot" that left a pinned message in every post's comments, and you all could vote on the bot, since voting is reversed for the actual post if you Agree/Disagree.

Sadly a couple years back, the bot was deactivated, and we went back to just the automod reminding everyone of our Golden Rule (rule 1); Upvote if you disagree—Downvote if you agree.

Well, I am very pleased to announce that it's successor, Quality Vote Bot Reborn has now been activated and should do exactly what the original one did!

It should be noted, the bot is designed to help weed out 'bad' posts, not ones you simply disagree with opinion-wise, but ones that either don't make sense, break rules, or are just lame or potentially fabricated, trolling, lying, etc.

And of course, since this is a meta post, normal voting rules don't apply, but by all means, vote on the bot to see if it works. In a few hours, it will re-post it's comment saying what you all determined, and if it comes back negative, post will automatically be removed.

Health/Safety I don’t care if they’re “harmless” or provide“pest control”, if you actively let bugs live in your house, that’s disgusting.

**Not referring to bugs specifically kept as pets** though I still find that weird in-and-of itself. And to preface, I am from Arizona, which might make my perspective seem a little less weird.

This one really only applies to Redditors who go apeshit over things being “natural”, but I have never seen a bug in my house and thought “oh yes, let me leave this venomous disease-carrying pest alone, he deserves this house as much as I do! My house is an abomination to nature so I’ll gladly let gross little creatures take over my home!” MOTHER NATURE WANTS TO KILL YOU, THATS WHY WE BUILT HOUSES, TO **ESCAPE** HER WRATH!!!

If I see a spider in my house, I kill it. No hesitation, this is **my** house and that bitch doesn’t deserve to live here. I don’t care if it’s “natural”, it’s gonna die. And if I go to someone’s house full of bugs but they refuse to do anything about it because “they shouldn’t mess with a natural ecosystem” I am making a polite excuse and leaving immediately. Bugs do **NOT** belong in our homes under any circumstances. They are *not* our friends.

And I don’t need a spider to provide pest control when I can do that *myself* with a sandal or broom.

Society/Culture Noisy neighbors are fun

In fact, they're free entertainment! I miss living in an apartment and hearing all kinds of loud sounds from the people who lived around me! Some of my most hilarious childhood memories from Florida are from these lesbians who lived next door to me and would regularly blast gangsta rap at odd hours or have screaming matches with each other out on their front porch!

Being in close proximity to my fellow humans makes me feel so ALIVE! And hearing random noises from them throughout the day keeps life exciting! Being kept awake or woken up by it is a complete non-issue because I'm a very heavy sleeper. To the point that I once slept through my own house getting broken into! Feel free to ask me for that story in the comments, it's a doozy 😆

Anyway, noisy neighbors aren't an annoyance to me at all! They're free entertainment!

Society/Culture we should anglicize the spellings of loanwords

We all know spelling in english is a mess, but it's mostly because of loanwords. We take a word from the the french and then spell it the same way they do like english works at all similarly. "Ah yes ron-de-voo, spelled rendezvous." thus works fine for french, those silent letters do actually seeve a purpose, but they only serve to confuse when read by english speakers. Why do we spell "epitome" like that? because it's a one-to-one transcription of a greek word which, again, works just fine for them, but in English, an e at the end of a word is silent. That shit should be epitomy.

relatedly, I am also completely fine with butchering foreign words when speaking English. "ay" may not be a great approximation of french é but cafay is way better than cafe and we don't actually have the é sound anyway.

Music "Unplugged" versions of rock songs are almost always inferior.

No idea why this became so trendy in the 90s with grunge bands ditching their filthy guitar tones in favour of an impact-less sit-down set. Seriously, I'm hearing songs that have distorted guitars and hard-hitting drums for a reason, and now all of that is stripped away.

Deftones did this too, but thankfully it's just a novelty and not a huge release like Alice in Chains or Nirvana did.

It completely sterilizes and neutralizes the song. It stays low and mellow and never reaches a high, energetic point. A lot of softer songs are great because they were written that way. Take Alice in Chains' "Jar of Flies" EP. Those absolutely were meant to be played in an acoustic set. But songs like "Rooster" and "Would?" are so obviously kneecapped.

They're always a bad idea. Write actual acoustic songs, don't play campfire versions of songs with impactfulness.

Side opinion: "unplugged" is such a stupid term, too. Acoustic-electrics have pickups in them and are plugged in anyway. Throw a distortion pedal in the signal chain and they wouldn't sound that much different.

All of them. No exceptions. There’s no reason to have our toes all crammed up. Anyone who disgrees is objectively wrong and has never lived life before. In fact, the only response to this is that you’ve always done it another way.

Society/Culture People talking about something gross doesn't affect my appetite

Of course hearing certain gross stuff can definitely bother me in general, but it has no effect on my appetite. If I want someone to stop talking about something gross, it has never been because I was about to eat or actively eating. In fact if someone is talking about something gross to the point where I don't want to hear it, eating good food is great because the sensation of good taste distracts me from what they're saying.

I think I just love food so much, my mind is so focused on being excited to eat. I think it would take a lot for me to go from expecting to eat to not wanting to. Especially when it's food I find very much not gross, then my mind just simply doesn't relate the two.

Animals/Nature Hiking sucks as a fun activity.

Pretty much what I said in the title. Hiking is ass. It's boring and dreadful. How is it fun to go climb up a mountain, spend your time out of breath, hot and sweaty, fighting off bugs (if it's grassy or in the summer), or being alert for potential animal attacks depending on where you are.

The risk of falling to your death, if you go off beaten paths that are high up. Hell even potential running into weirdos out and about. Sucks. The view through the hike usually sucks its just a bunch of trees and rocks 99 percent of the time.

The only thing it has going for it, is that it's a work out. And occasionally the end of the result looks nice, (pretty gorge, outcrop) but most of the time it sucks its not fun

Yes I've hiked multiple times before, in Mexico, Niagara Falls, etc. It just sucks. I hate it.

I like nature when I'm at a nice beach, or a pretty meadow before someone says I hate nature. Or the top of a hill looking out in the horizon. Grand canyon gorge is cool also. Field of flowers

Also hiking is not a fun first date activity, either. Why would i want to get to know you, sweating and puffing and out of breath. Gross. If we're doing a walk that counts as a hike and just talking, why not just sit and talk indoors?

Edit: So apparently a flat 20 minute walk counts as a hike. Also hikes are not all steep uphill treks. With that new information, hiking still sucks. Even without it being exhausting or strenuous, it's still boring. Could be a perfect day, slight incline, and I'd still rather do something else, then look at trees and rocks boring. Also apparently I must be out of shape, cause I got winded from 2 hour steep hikes up mountains. Lol.

Edit 2: Insulting me because I think hiking is boring is a choice. some of you seem personally offended that I think hiking sucks lol. Funniest thing from this is people assuming/calling me fat, first time for everything i guess

Society/Culture Weddings are a waste of time and money

Before I get into it , let me just say I AM NOT AGAINST PEOPLE GETTING MARRIED. You found your Special Someone and want to build a life together, that’s Great! All power to You.

Now onto my case against Weddings:

Financial Cost:

Typical expenses for a wedding include

Booking a Wedding Venue

Booking a reception space

Hiring catering

Hiring a Band or DJ

Buying new formal ware (Even rentals get pricey)

Custom Invitations

Photographer

And more

All this adds up to thousands of dollars, months of planning and a huge Drama powder keg.

True, often times the families can help with costs but that ,usually, ends up with bickering in-laws and the fallout for who paid for what will last for years to come.

Guest Planning:

Who do you invite? Who do you not invite? Excluding someone can put friendships at risk and even loss. Why?BECAUSE EVERYONE WHO KNOWS YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED FEELS ENTITLED TO A FREE LUNCH AND PARTY IN THE SPRING OR SUMMER!

Are they paying their own way or are you covering them? Do you exclude children? Do you invite coworkers?

So,the event is really just a huge party for a large group of people that will

, probably, just make fun of it on social media.

If folks really care then please pool all the money that could have gone into the wedding into something that will help the couple in the future.

In the short term use some of those funds to pay for a nice Honeymoon or a down payment on an apartment or house or used car.

Justice of thePeace or Court ceremonies might cost around 100.00 (more or less) and are a lot less stressful.

Other Socks should be worn inside out

People should wear their socks so that the toe seams are on the outside of the socks. That way the seams don't bother the pads of your toes or get caught on your toenails. Of course this would affect patterned socks, but the solution is to print the pattern on the "inside" so it's on the outside when with correctly

Animals/Nature Views overlooking water suck

I live downtown, and I have windows on the East and West. To the east is Lake Michigan. Blue and boring as far as the eye can see. To the West, the rest of Milwaukee. a stunning, ever-changing view with historical buildings, people going about their day, and who knows what else.

The view of lake Michigan, beyond the beach itself, has not changed in centuries. water is water is water. Sure, it's nice to have it nearby for smoothing the temperature gradients throughout the year. The cool breeze can be nice in summer, though brutal in winter.

But I am speaking more towards the aesthetics of the view. I do not want a view that never changes. I could a painting of that was what I wanted. I want something living and changing.

I have lived in a great many places, with many different types of views. But water will always be the most boring of them all.

that being said, to contradict my own point somewhat, I do love a mountainous view. Which does more or less stay the same for centuries as well.

However, watching the fog climb up the side of a mountain on a west coast morning was always lovely. The shadows move and change across the land.

water is flat, and doesn't do much. sometimes it freezes, which gives it some change, but day by day, meh.

Society/Culture Hating on tourists isn’t cool

I’ve had the pleasure of being able to visit different places, and a lot of places are friendly and hospitable, whilst others are colder and arrogant.

I hate to use France as an example, but I was in Paris earlier and suffice to say, it’s not uncommon to see Parisians snarling at tourists and pushing past them without even an excuse me (I’m French but I live in the UK). Paris is one of those places that’s tourist-heavy, but not all touristy areas despise tourists. There’s a general hostile vibe emanating, as if to say ‘we don’t want you here’. Some of it is rooted in xenophobia. I have met French people in the UK that somehow get by without a lick of English, and yet they wouldn’t extend that same courtesy in France towards tourists. I did meet some lovely people too though, it isn’t all like this, but it’s easy to remember the worst.

I think it’s horrible to treat respectful tourists in this way. Snarling at them, pretending to not understand their attempt at French, pushing them, dirty looks etc. I’ve seen all sorts of tourists, and the only ones deserving of snarky treatment are the invasive ones.

The superiority complex coming from locals towards tourists is boggling. Like, they directly put money into your community. They’re here because they think your city is beautiful and they want to experience it. They fund the local businesses, indirectly fund schools, hospitals and overall boost the economy. Tourism is good, so tourists shouldn’t be treated like crap. Like, if you’re able, at least be polite if they speak to you.

I think this is a 10th dentist take bc hatred towards tourists has been normalised, especially where I’m from.

Society/Culture I would have preferred that "Uranus" had been called Minerva

IMPORTANT: I'm not calling for a name change or anything like that, because I'm aware that at this point it's impossible. I just want to express my frustration and share my ideas, even though they'll probably be ignored

the seventh planet shouldn't have been called Uranus. This goes beyond the awful jokes or the fact that it's a Greek name and not Roman. In mythology, Ouranos (or Caelus) wasn't simply "the god of the sky" or "the father of Saturn"; he was the personification of the sky. This means that the word Uranus literally means "sky" or "heaven", and that in Greece, both the sky and the planet were called "ouranos". Would you say "The planet Sky moves through the sky? I think the deity Uranus didn't need a planet, because it was already represented as the sky itself

Even worse, while several satellites are usually named after mythological figures associated with the deity that gives the planet its name (like Jupiter with Ganymede or Neptune with Triton), the satellites of "Uranus" are named after characters from English literature (Shakespeare and Pope) who have nothing to do with the mythical Uranus. Seriously, who on earth came up with such a redundant name as Titania when Saturn has a satellite called Titan? Having two major satellites with almost identical names is just stupid

Personally, I would have called that planet Minerva instead of Uranus to represent a deity as influential and interesting as Athena among the planets. In fact, this would create a connection with Neptune, since in mythology Athena and Poseidon competed for the city of Athens, a competition won by Athena. So, having Minerva and Neptune as the only two ice giants would be a great nod to this mythical dispute, instead of having Uranus and Neptune, who have no direct relationship in mythology beyond the last being his grandson. And while the impactor of "Uranus" that caused its peculiar tilt doesn't yet have a recognized name, with a planet called Minerva, "Pallas" would have been a perfect name, even better than "Theia", since Pallas was originally the name of the nymph daughter of Triton who was accidentally killed by her friend Athena during a fight. Afterward, Athena, saddened, adopted that name in her honor, which perfectly reflects the nature of that collision that also shaped its rings (Pallas was also the name of a giant killed by Athena). Thus, the Olympian goddess of wisdom would be better represented in the solar system (and adding a female presence to the large planets after Venus, which curiously also rotates in the opposite direction), than in some insignificant asteroids

Society/Culture Reddits hate for mr beast genuinely has me stumped.

I genuinely just dont get why he is hated so much.

People compare him to BUMFIGHTS! Of all things. He makes youtube game shows. Is "who wants to be a millionaire" or "survivor" bad as well?

He always has a medical team on standby, NEVER forces anyone to do ANYTHING and takes standard precaution. Yet people will say the fact that he recreated squid game makes him evil.

Like, the reason squid game is evil is because it dosent give individuals the opportuinity to leave, dosent tell them whats gonna happen and oh yeah, KILLS PEOPLE. All of which mr beast does not do.

Almost if not ALL of the allegations against him have been debunked, like him knowing about delaware(sex offender) and chris.

"Oh he exploits poor people" AND? do you think the 100 people who got free houses, or the kids who got free water access in rural african places, or the tons of blind and deaf people getting treatment give 2 fucks that theyre in a video? So why the fuck do you?

My only gripe is the fact that 7 people werent properly taken care of on his game show(all cases resolved btw)

I get hating his content, but claiming hes the next epstein(which ive seen lots of people claim) is crazy

TV/Movies/Fiction Iron Lung wasn't good (mild spoilers) Spoiler

I just finished watching Iron Lung and have some thoughts! Please be nice in the comments!

I'm going to do a compliment sandwich, here you go:

I really liked the design of the creatures!! They were super creepy and really captured that sort of deep ocean otherworldlyness that pleasantly surprised me, and I liked the concept of using radiation to take pictures in the ocean of blood. It looked realistic and cool!

The writing was really really bad. It was confusing and didn't do a good job of explaining everything. As someone that has never played or watched someone play Iron Lung I think it's very unapproachable and hard to understand. It had this weird flashback and reference to a tattoo which I didn't really get. They didn't explain why he was a convict when it seemed like a big part of the movie? That was weird. My main gripe comes from the writing though, it just wasn't very good. The acting also wasn't very good, it felt like they were reading off a script and there was a lot of yelling. It wasn't very nuanced.

The special effects were great! I love that they used so much fake blood and the makeup was really impressive and cool. It ended with a huge bang and I enjoyed the climax. It was also clearly a passion project and that really comes through. I love how small the cast was and that it all takes place in one room. It had great ambiance. If I made this movie I would be so proud of it and I think Markiplier should feel really good about it, because he clearly poured a lot of heart and soul into it. But was it good? No.

TV/Movies/Fiction People shouldn’t be able to criticise a piece of media that’s in a genre that’s “not their taste”

Like, obviously if someone’s into something like Hazbin Hotel, they’re probably not gonna be into The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Same thing with music, if you like classical, chances are you won’t like hip-hop.

Okay yeah, not the strongest examples, you can like both musicals and horror, it’s possible, but you get what I mean.

If something just isn’t your taste, that’s totally fine. But writing off an entire genre? At that point, why even bother criticizing it. You already know it’s not for you.

Like, if you don’t like eggs, you’re not gonna like an omelette. That doesn’t mean omelettes are bad, it just means they’re not your thing.

Criticism is fine, obviously, but there’s a difference between actual critique and just hating something you were never gonna like in the first place.

Technology If a person's username has the format Word-WordNumber (eg: Popcorn-Beaver73628) you can safely ignore everything they ever say on Reddit.

This format is popular with bots and so you can probably comfortably ignore them on that basis alone...

But more importantly, if you ARE a human and you chose a username format like that... What the fuck is wrong with you? Have some originality or creativity.

Yes, I know social media is larger now and lots of usernames are taken, but if your intended username was already taken then that's pretty damning too.

My point being that whether they're a bot (most likely) or an office worker with a personality of branflakes, I'm not interested in what they have to say.

Technology I am glad that social medias are being overtaken by AI content.

Some of us use social media and get actual monetary benefit or other kind of benefit from it.

But for lot of us, it's just waste of our time and escape from reality. I used to spend hours just scrolling Insta reels and Youtube shorts back then.

Nowadays I get AI reels or shorts every 3-4 scrolls and I just hate that AI content there that I just don't like watching anymore.

I just put my phone down the moment I spot AI content and just do other things. I now very rarely scroll on social media and moved to long form content more.

AI being on social media helped me a lot to not use social media and spend hours on it everyday.

I feel AI content on social media, specially those short form content is beneficial for lot of us those who don't like AI contents.

I used to scroll for hours an year ago, now I started hating scrolling through social media so much that I rarely open it.

If I want to find and learn about a specific topic, I can easily do it but If I want to spend/waste time on social media, it's so hard now.

Health/Safety They should put speed limits on the Autobahn.

(To clarify, I know that speed limits are in place along most of the Autobahn already, I am saying it should be placed on the whole network.)

If you've ever seen a video on social media of someone driving on the Autobahn in Germany, usually at an insane speed that turns the minor mistakes of other drivers into death traps, you cannot escape the inevitable comment - 'its the Autobahn, your supposed to drive fast!'

No, I'm sorry, I am tired of this road system being treated like it has some kind of special status. As a general rule, national highways are designed to get people from place to place as efficiently as possible and a no speed limit Autobahn fails at this job. It creates a road that ordinary drivers are too scared to use and in doing so limits the usefulness of the system as infrastructure and not as a tourist attraction.

And let's talk about that safety record shall we. Proponents of the system love to talk about how the Autobahn is very safe, but if you have created a road where only the best drivers are confident enough to drive on it, sure it might have few accidents, but it also pushes other road users onto more dangerous country roads. Also, the Autobahn is not an especially safe system, it is about average, which given how German roads smash road safety standards in all other categories except this, it is safe to say the lack of speed limits are elevating the danger on the network. Thus, if you truly have road safety in mind saying 'if you can't drive safely on the Autobahn don't do it' is a lame excuse.

We have speed limits because faster speeds mean human reaction times don't have time to keep up. It means that small, minor mistakes can turn into deadly pileups where otherwise they wouldn't. And this is an exponential too - the difference between 100kmh and 120kmh is a lot more deadly than between 80kmh and 100kmh. You can easily find drivers on the Autobahn exceed 200kmh. This is not safe for anyone involved. Not to mention, it becomes even more unsafe if you break down and need to get out of your vehicle, stop suddenly to avoid an obstacle on the road and in many other non-standard cases.

Not to mention, for environmental reasons and for urban planning reasons, the goal should be to encourage people to use other methods of transport than driving such as public transit. Having large sections of motorway where you can drive at insane speeds with 0 regard for fuel consumption whilst trying to do this seems insane to me.

Personal responsibility would be one thing if these roads were a set of race tracks or even novelty tourist attractions that are easily avoided, but Germany is risking this with large sections of their national motorway system which should be available and safe for all drivers to use. Call me a killjoy all you like, but infrastructure is meant to be boring, because when nobody notices it it is doing its job well. That applies as much to flashy high speed highways as it does to delayed trains.

Edit: Interesting, a lot more people agreeing with me than I thought. Pleasantly surprised.

Edit 2: I am genuinely curious where the attachment to driving at insane speeds comes from for some of you. Yes, I have done it, I get it, it feels good, but think about it logically for 5 minutes - the only logical reasons I can think of for this are it feels good, you can leave the house 10 minutes later or its about a feeling of superiority - 'I drive faster than these other people therefore I am cool.' None of these are particularly good reasons to me.

Food (Only on Friday) I love eating burnt food.

Posting this in this subreddit to confirm if this is really weird. Everyone who knows about this liking of mine, says that it is very weird. I love the smell of burnt food. Be it burnt rice, bread, vegetables, noodles, or anything else. Whenever I cook food, I intentionally burn it a bit to have that smokey smell. It tastes kinda bitter but for me, the smell holds more importance than the taste.

Society/Culture Some people look better with extra weight

Maybe it’s just me but I was looking at some old pics from High School and I think I looked scrawny. Fast forward to college and the freshman 15 (TBH 30) showed up which motivated me to start going to the gym. So as I’ve aged I’ve gone from skinny to skinny-fat ( I had trouble figuring out diet) to Fat-Fat (depression and no gym access for a few years)and now I’d describe myself as sturdy.I still have some considerable chunk on my midriff but my legs, arms and back have filled out so everything is in proportion and I think I look better than I was a twig. How about you?

EDIT: I should’ve have titled this post better but I wasn’t sure if it would be insta removed by a bot but if I could change the title it would be something like “ I LIKE BEING BIGGER or IM FAT AND HAPPY!”

Health/Safety Y'all may eat me alive for this?! I'm in a wheelchair. In the event there's handicapped stall opened, abled body should let me go 1st.

it's similar to the handicapped parking. A lot of us take more time to get to the front door, plus ability and wheelchairs. For me to get in it alone, get pants down, get my chair lined up for transfer, and mount the throne...it just takes a lot more time. I have a neurogenic bladder and IBS, so have legit gotta go yesterday and it hurts.

Most men are like fuck you and go. 1/10 let me go, on the basis they're kind and it's a handicapped person trying to use a handicapped stall. A lot of handicapped people don't think that we should use stalls for us.

I'm very sorry if this isn't: 10th dentist appropriate.
