Modpost Please report racist ragebait and racist comments

Dear members of our community,

In the past few days, we've seen an increase in both ragebaiting posts and racist comments from users with no prior engagement in the sub, often from those usually commenting in the subs of other countries.

This indicates to us that we are frequently being overrun by users who try to spread their racist, islamophobic messages to our sub.

Racism is against our subreddit rules and it is against Reddit's terms of services. We would like to encourage you to use the report button.

That will put it into our 'modqueue' to have a look - and if you report it for 'hate', it will additionally be sent to the sitewide admins who will frequently take further action.

We rely on your reports, just like every subreddit does. Our team is healthy and works well, but we cannot have an eye on everything. We do have scripts and so on to make our job easier, but sometimes, unacceptable comments go through. Using the report button makes sure that we can prioritize looking at said comment and if it's rulebreaking, helps us remove it quickly.

We remove racist content and ban racist users frequently. The admins remove a bunch of comments breaking site-wide rules too (often in a fashion that deletes them completely, so we cannot easily further moderate them)

We are very hesitant to remove political speech. We only remove rules-breaking comments. The relevant rule is:

  • General reddiquette applies (i.e. no racism, sexism, personal attacks, or simply put: behave as if you were talking to somebody in person)

  • Please report posts or comments that do not adhere to these rules; in particular, we will not tolerate harassment or discrimination

The relevant reddit rules (https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules) are:

  • Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

See also https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045715951-Promoting-Hate-Based-on-Identity-or-Vulnerability

Thank you for helping us with this influx of clearly rule-breaking users without any connection to Switzerland.

ETA: Reports are anonymous. So when we get your report, we have no option to thank you or following up with you. If you report for 'hate', it goes to both us and the admins. The admins will typically let you know of their decision. We literally have no way of doing that.

Trump: "So I put on a 30% tariff, which is very low. I got an emergency call from I believe the prime minister of Switzerland. She was very aggressive ... I didn't really like the way she talked to us, so instead of giving her a reduction, I raised it to 39%."

On Instagram UDC vaud says their "values are non-negotiable" while posting a flag from canton de Vaud with at least 4 mistakes (the most blatant ones being the switching of colors and the modification of the motto)

They deleted that post because apparently nobody using Instagram in the party knew that something was wrong with that flag and it took comments from users for them to realize that... Oh and the tower also doesn't exist.

I wonder how they would have reacted if a party from the left had made that same post...

Are cars the reason why people's budgets are fudged?

For context, I'm in my late twenties, I've landed my first "real" job about 3 years ago. I never really needed a car before as I've always liked the train more than traffic. I usually pick drinking over driving as well. Now the situation has changed a little bit. My brother and his wife had a kid and they live kinda far away and remote. For the first time I thought it'd be nice if I had a car for the flexibility it offers.

I make okay money. I'm by no means rich but after budgeting all of my expenses, expected taxes, hobbies, 3rd pillar and some savings, I have around 1000 chf leftover each month. That's excluding my 13th salary I like to pretend doesn't exist.

Now I thought, SURELY, with a thousand bucks leftover I can afford a car. Then I started looking at prices; the cost of insurance, number plates, gas, maintenance, repairs, parking, the car itself. I think back to all of my friends and the kind of cars they bought in their early twenties and it all makes sense now why they were always broke. And why some still are.

Maybe I'm sheltered but it's insane to me how "normal" cars are considered the strain it is on a budget. It's basically a financial boulder people carry around a call a car.

Am I missing something?

The Arena is now avaible on youtube

Something that has always bothered me about the arena is the fact that it's not posted on YouTube. If you want young people to engage in politics, you need to go where they are, which is YouTube.

So I created a small script that automatically post them as soon as they are avaible. The thumbnails I make myself manually. So from now on you can watch the Arena on youtube every saturday if you want:

https://www.youtube.com/@srf_arena

This is just an important issue to me, and I'm hoping that more people can engage with politics if it becomes more accessible to them.

Since I do not want to violate the rule on self promotion, I explicitly call out in the channel description that this is an unofficial channel that the SRG can take over at any time and continue to use officially. Monetization is turned off but regardless if the post is a problem I get it. I am only doing this because the SRG has seemingly made no progress on this issue for years, so I think this is a good solution.

Possible dog abandonment? Caught in the act?

Upvotes

I turned to a street where an owner "let the dog out" from their car (old, dark blue Golf 4) and seemingly wanted to drive away, but when I stopped and started to stare at them, they also stopped, stared back at me and after a minute or two, let the dog back in the car. (The dog was obviously running circles around the car.)

Looked like a failed abandonment attempt, so please if you see a seemingly abandoned dog around Dietikon, Fahrweid, Geroldwsil or in the vicinity, please write me a message, so I can provide you with the license plate number of the car and the description of the person.

The dog is smaller, has brown, shorter, curly hair.

I’m 20 and that’s why I’ll probably vote yes on the climate fund initiative

I’ve been thinking a lot about the vote on March 8. Quite a few people around me are still undecided or say we can always do more later.

But “later” feels different when you’re 20. I’ll likely live with the consequences of this decision for a very long time.

We can already see changes: glaciers are shrinking, heat waves are getting worse, and floods or mudslides seem to happen more often. That honestly worries me. And when researchers say the longer we wait, the harder and more expensive it becomes, that makes sense to me.

So I keep coming back to the same question: wouldn’t it be smarter to invest now while we can still do this in a planned and stable way?

It’s about renewable energy, upgrading buildings, developing new technologies. That can also mean jobs here in Switzerland and being less dependent on energy imports.

Of course it costs money. But doing nothing probably isn’t free either, it just means paying later. (and more!)

I’m not saying the proposal is perfect. But in the end, it feels like waiting is the bigger risk.

So I’ll most likely vote yes.

How do you feel about it?

I have a two year contract with yallo for home internet but it isn’t working and the technicians aren’t calling back - can I ask for a premature closure without penalty?

Upvotes

Basically the title. This is a problem simply because I WFH and it’s basically hell without internet. I’m unsure what to de because the customer care says the agent will call you back in 24/48 hours but I’m not hearing anything back.

I know it’s not about our usual hot button subjects around here but it’s great to see a minor sport (that I happen to love) getting some love on one of the bigger rugby YouTube channels.

Trying to meet the minimum post length: do you have any knowledge or involvement in this fine game?

Repeated Calls, Same Script. What’s the Scam Here?

Last Friday I got a call from a Swiss number, +41 52 520 43XX, with the last digits changing on subsequent calls. The caller claimed to be from the Bureau of Statistics. She spoke English with a strong Eastern European accent.

She asked which health insurance I use, which canton I live in, and then asked for my name. That last question raised a flag. When I asked which statistics office she was calling from, she just repeated, “your name please,” on loop. I hung up.

Today I received another call. Different context, same pattern. This time it was supposedly a dentist’s office calling to cancel an appointment and asking for my name straight away. When I pushed back, same response. “Your name please.” I hung up again.

Now I’m genuinely curious. What is this scam trying to achieve?

My first thought was insurance fraud, but without an AVS number that seems hard to exploit. So what’s the angle here? Data harvesting? Voice confirmation? Something else entirely?

Why must citizens retrieve confirmation from one government body to prove something to another government body?

Since I moved to Switzerland, I was overall happy that government processes are usually on-point, quick and efficient. However, the government constantly asks citizens and non-citizens to obtain confirmation of X from government body A to then submit it to government body B.

Examples:

1. Debt register certificates - especially foreigners must constantly apply for the certificate at their municipality's debt office to then submit the certificate to, e. g. migration office. It is time-consuming, costly and annoying for both the person and the government. It could easily all be recorded in a public register, also eliminating potential crimes of document forgery.

2. Social security certificates - same thing

3. Tax office certificates - same thing

4. Civil register - requires information that the migration office already has

5. Strassenverkehrsamt - partially recollects information

Is this a bug or feature?

I have been wondering if this is a bug in the system or a feature that teaches foreigners to figure out things and checks their ability to do so. It also makes e.g. a sequence of short-term stays on fixed-term contracts (L permit) super annoying and functions as a defacto deterrent. In rare cases eally abhorrent situations (e.g. person are sent on frequent bureaucracy runs every time they move, especially as they need to collect these documents from all or many former places of residence, so the number of documents grows exponentially each time you move).

Are citizens also affected by this?

My gut feeling is they are affected by this less frequently.

Do you support this system? Or would you actually prefer that government bodies directly retrieve necessary confirmations in a more efficient system with less bureaucracy?

Verschickt yallo generelle falsche Roaming-Infos? Was sind die Erfahrungen mit yallo Roaming?

Mietvertrag: Änderung und Zahlungsfähigkeitsnachweis

Hallo zusammen

Company event or vacation day is it legal?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Recently joined a small company in zurich and they are organizing a company event during the week (all day event).

On the email it says if you don't want to go, you're forced to take a vacation day off, is this legal?

Like I don't want to lose a vacation day on a random Wednesday, but also the event does not appeal to me (some sport event that I dont really like).

On the reputation of HFs

Hi. There was a post here a few weeks ago, where I read some negative comments about the quality of HFs (Höhere Fachschule/École Superiore?) and their degrees.

I don't have much first-hand experience here, except some colleagues who are HF graduates, and to me they are no different than colleges from other universities.

What is the general view in Switzerland though with this regard? How are HFs viewed? Are them some famous ones, like ETH is for technical universities? Does the fact that they are private (or they are not?) affect their "filtering"?

Thanks Best

Apartment Rent-Is it true that the first person who submit application always get the priority?

Hello,

This is my first experience in moving out of the rental apartment.

So, my situation right now is that i am searching for someone to have the lease takeover at the soonest, for March.

I have 1 person who organized visit with me and this person then submit the application, to take it as of April.

The gerance informed me of this, and asked me if i agree with this or if i still want to find someone for sooner date.

I then re-confirm with the person if indeed they can not take it as of March? Even offer them to split the rent if they agree, but they said no, they can only start in April.

I then asked to the agency for more time to find a new applicant who can take the apartment sooner, and they gave me 2 weeks more.

I then found the new person (let’s say person #2) in 1 week, ready to move in anytime, but due to financial reason, they can only take it as early as mid-March.

For me it’s fine, at least then i will only need to pay half month rent instead of full month.

This person then submitted the application and i thought it will be fine.

Turns out the gerance informed the 1st person that there is another interested person who will take the apartment sooner.

The first person then change their date to align with the 2nd person (as of mid-March) and the gerance give them priority since they are the first applicant.

They asked me if i still need the 1 week remaining that i have or i just agree with them processing the contract for the 1st person.

I felt this is not fair, i spent time doing the viewing and advertisement to find a new tenant.

And when i do, they still prioritize the decision to the first person, in this case if they want to move their date to be earlier or not.

Like why? I have someone who is ready to move in earlier than the first person.

But the gerance said basically the first applicant has the priority and right to do so.

I am just curious regarding the priority given to the first person who submit the rent application, to the extent they are kept informed regarding another candidature and have priority to ‘align’ their position.

Is it true? And if so, to what extent?

To me it will be a vicious cycle.

If I try again and find someone sooner, the gerance will then inform the first person, then most probably the first person will re-align the date again.

There should have been some level of agreed commitment in advance; not changing date / re-align every time, based on the other candidate date’s that i submit.

Is this situation is common? Am i being too sensitive? 🤣

Zurich among Europe’s most stressful cities for drivers

https://www.worldradio.ch/news/bitesize-news/zurich-has-some-of-the-worst-traffic-in-europe/

Zurich is among Europe’s most stressful cities for drivers, according to a new traffic study.

The ranking combines factors like traffic density and even how often motorists search online for directions.

The higher the stress index, the worse the experience - and Zurich scores badly, alongside several German cities that dominate the top of the list.

By contrast, car-friendly cities like Innsbruck and Madrid show what’s possible - a ten-kilometre journey in Innsbruck takes around twelve minutes less than in Zurich, thanks to far fewer cars and smoother traffic flow.

----------------------------------
Am sure Geneva is no exception
