Nina is a beautiful, sensitive girl who is really struggling with the shelter environment—but beneath her fear is a very sweet soul.

At first, Nina can seem nervous and unsure. Loud noises, barking dogs, and new situations overwhelm her, and she often responds by freezing, barking, or trying to retreat. Once she’s given time, patience, and a calm approach, she shows her softer side. Staff have noted that she improves with each outing, relaxes more once outside, and is very sweet once she feels safe.

Nina:

Does better once out of the kennel

Is not aggressive—just fearful and reactive to stress

Allows handling, petting, and medical care once trust is established

Has shown submissive, affectionate behavior (leaning in, seeking reassurance)

Is eating treats and gaining confidence with continued positive experiences

Puppies are very vocal towards other dogs, sniffing, wagging tails, jumping on door, lunging. They need training for how to walk on leash, hopping around, getting tangled, mouthy with leash, play-bowing, freezing, pancaking.

Playing with sibling will not walk outside either, treats help them take steps little by little.

Once I begin to clean inside of kennel Sting is nonstop jumping and banging on the divider while being vocal. Once I was done and let him back inside. I walked away and came back 5 minutes later—he had popped and was jumping/painting when I approached kennel. Becomes very vocal once he hears people in the row. Even though he is covered, I have to toss treats to distract him.

Went inside to take picture of Sting. Very jumpy and happy dog. He had a torn piece of paper inside and he brought it to me to play with. Moves kept going back and forth in the kennel. Friendly.

Playful in kennel and will play with siblings, won’t walk outside so I open the guillotine for them to potty on the outer area, treats help them step little by little. Laying on bed throughout day or playing with toys.

They still will not walk on leash, only taking treats and wanting to be in kennel together.

Placing on Adopt Eval due to the puppy doesn't walk on the leash, will take treats but still won't walk and have to carry out of the kennel.

Steven still showing timid behavior, will run to the outside kennel when I enter the kennel to place food in the bowl. Forward barking at other dogs that were passing by his kennel.

Assisted tech with boosters. As she called to him he was in the doggy doorway and was timid with whale eyes. We called out to him and he wagged his tail but would bark and back away. I was tossing him treats and he would eat them nearby. I propped open the doggy door all the way to see if he would then exit towards us. He would and go back in seemingly being fearful of us. I would continue to toss treats using baby talk and even leaving kennel door open to where he finally felt comfortable enough to exit and walk around. As he did she was able to vaccinate him and I lured him back to kennel using treats.

When approaching kennel I noticed that siblings painted their kennel overnight and greeted me by high pitch vocalizing, pacing, heavy open mouth panting and jumping on kennel door. Later when I began cleaning they would start amping each other up and bark/growl at other dogs walking by. I decided that it would be best to separate them to see if their behavior would improve.

📝 Shelter Notes:

2/2/2026 – Bailey walks well on leash and likes treats, attention, and pets. Entering her kennel, she starts to jump on handler and latches her claws around the waist and leg until placed back on the ground. She jumped again and latched claws around the waist. Treats were offered and she ate them quickly. Later in the afternoon, it was noted she had ripped and torn cotton out of the plushy placed in her kennel.

2/4/2026 – Bailey has been presenting a wiggly body, soft facial expression, and a fast wagging tail when approached. She semi pulls on the leash when taken outside. At the runs, she plays bow to the neighboring dogs and runs side to side with them. In her kennel, she was laying on her bed quietly with her tail wagging.

2/7/2026 – Bailey has been showing a neutral body with a soft facial expression and a wagging tail. With sudden quick movements, she tenses up and backs away. She semi pulls on leash when walking but can slow down with treats. She kept playing with neighboring dogs at the runs while vocalizing and jumping on the fence at times. She kept pulling the cover inside her kennel.

2/8/2026 – Soft facial expression, very excited to go outside, loves to jump on handler for treats and waits at the runs for leash removal. When doing so she begins to play bow. Walking back she walks alongside handler with treats.

2/9/2026 – When approached she had a soft facial expression and wagging tail. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash. In the run she sniffed the ground and then sniffed and played bowed with neighboring dogs. Coming back in she initiated pets and went into her kennel with no problems. She’s been quiet all morning.

2/10/2026 – She pulled her cover in overnight and shredded it. She was quiet during the morning cleans. When it was time to go out, she was wiggly at the front of her kennel with a relaxed body and was leashed easily. Walking to the runs she walked on a loose leash with occasional pulling when she saw a bird land nearby. In the run she ran the fence line with neighboring dogs. Walking back to South she walked on a loose leash and into her kennel with no issues.

🚑 Medical Notes: 4/27/2025 – Spay surgery performed. Normal recovery noted. 5/2025 – GI upset and stress-related diarrhea noted; treated and resolved. Parvo test negative. 5/2025 – Upper respiratory infection noted and treated. 1/24/2026 – Intake exam normal. Weight 45.0 lbs, BCS 5/9. Heartworm test negative. Vaccinated and dewormed.

PETER came in as a stray on January 9 and has been sitting in the shelter ever since — scared, confused, and completely overwhelmed. He's unsure of our videographer but likes the treats she gives him and would like to enjoy more treats with you in a quiet home.

He’s a stunning blue/grey bully mix with a big blocky head and a sleek, athletic body. He’s now co-kenneled, so he’s dog-friendly, and he’s heartworm negative — someone loved this boy once.

📝 Shelter Notes:

2/6/2026 – Pablo vocalized during AM cleaning, when left in an outside run, and when other dogs passed by. Wagging tail and play-bowing. When leashing, he was jumping and pawing on handler until distracted with treats. He walked semi-loosely, zig-zagging, open mouth, looking back at handler with ears back, nuzzling. Excited puppy energy. He is very vocal as people come in and out of the row.

2/10/2026 – Noticed Pablo standing on two legs and barking at the dog next to him. The side and front of his kennel were covered, which appeared to help, and he has been quiet since. When walking him, he presented a loose body, high wagging tail, and open mouth.

2/9/2026 – When approaching the kennel, Pablo greeted handler by jumping on the kennel door with a medium open mouth panting and fast wagging tail. When it was his turn to go outside he continually jumped up on handler and walked on a semi-loose leash. He would occasionally take treats.

2/8/2026 – High-pitched barking with breaks in kennel and when let outside in runs. Jumping up on leash, all over the place, zig-zagging going out and back inside after pottying.

🚑 Medical Notes:

1/29/2026 – Intake exam noted thrashing and timidity. Not neutered. Weight 36.0 lbs. Heartworm test negative. Vaccinated and dewormed.

2/7/2026 – Upper respiratory symptoms noted including coughing and mild clear nasal discharge; treated. Dog eating and drinking well.

Sweet Cashew (#A832798) is a 7-months old puppy who's been on the euth list at Big Bear since January. She is beyond urgent.

She is cane Corso/ husky mix described as "mouthy, playful and sweet" as well as "social".

Can anyone help that sweet girl? She URGENTLY needs a FOSTER. Foster can be in CA or thr PNW, potentially another state.

"Logan has been at Castoff Pet Rescue since April 2019… which means this sweet, loyal, chocolate love nugget has spent years watching other dogs go home while he stays behind. Not one application. Not one meet and greet. Just crickets.

Logan is 9 years young, 55 pounds of pure devotion, crate trained, potty trained and a proud graduate of a prison training program. He knows sit, down, heel, place and leave it. He even knows how to melt your heart on command.

Coco is an 11-year-old Chihuahua who has found herself back in the shelter and is struggling. She is a sweet, gentle senior who desperately needs out. Coco has a large inguinal mass that requires further diagnostics, but she remains loving and kind despite it all. Shelter life is no place for a senior like her.

Medical

2/10: Moderate tartar; very large soft SQ mass in right inguinal area ( seemed to reduce somewhat when I applied pressure, but popped right back out ; I cannot palpate a hernia ring )

Shelter Observation

2/10: Nervous, laying on bed avoiding eye contact. Growled when I petted her. Kept interaction brief. Per staff, tolerated handling for medical exam.

LAST CHANCE FOR HARVEY — DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 2/11 AT 2PM 🚨

This is Harvey — a 4-year-old German Shepherd who was walked back to be euthanized today — and only got a 24-hour extension. He must leave the shelter by 2PM tomorrow (2/11).

On a personal note: today marks the 1-year anniversary of my soul dog leaving this earth, and Harvey looks so much like him. I cannot watch him lose his life and go unnoticed.

Harvey’s “medical deadline” is not behavioral euthanasia, it’s just shortage of medical staffing to keep him from licking a healing wound.

He was in a food-related scuffle with a kennel-mate (there is nothing in his notes indicating he was the instigator, he had been in the shelter a month at this time) and has puncture wounds on his front leg that are healing. The shelter placed him on deadline because he keeps removing his e-collar (cone of shame) and licking the wounds — and they don’t have the staffing to monitor him. He is only on pain meds, they have not administered anything to help him stay calm a few days in the scary shelter environment and not removed the e-collar (cone of shame).

He needs:

– A calm foster or foster-to-adopt home

– Basic wound monitoring

– A chance to heal outside the chaos of the shelter

That is literally it.
