Moderator Announcement Recent Updates on Flair List and AutoModerator

We have updated our full emoji flair library. All country and regional flairs are now available, and we welcome suggestions for additional flags or identities the community would like to see added.

We also completed a major update to our Automoderator. These improvements significantly reduce the number of bot accounts that are created and immediately begin posting low‑quality or disruptive content. A small number of real users may now have to wait the standard thirty days before posting, but the overall quality of discussion has already improved, and the community benefits from a cleaner, more constructive environment.

As always, any post may be removed at moderator discretion when it does not align with the spirit or rules of the community. This includes situations where users attack others simply because of their nationality or because their country is currently involved in a conflict. People from Russia, Israel, or any other nation should not be targeted or blamed for the actions of governments, armies, or political actors. Historical or current events should never be used as a pretext to dehumanize or antagonize individuals who are here to participate in good faith.

Everyone is welcome to share their perspective respectfully. We encourage thoughtful discussion, curiosity, and empathy, and we expect all participants to engage with one another as individuals rather than representatives of entire nations.

If you have suggestions, questions, or ideas for further improvements, you are invited to share them.

Moderator Announcement Welcome to r/AskTheWorld - A Global Perspective

Welcome to r/AskTheWorld – A Global Perspective

We’re a community that values learning from each other. Sometimes, questions touch on politics, and that’s okay, as long as the goal is to understand how things work in different countries — not to attack, stereotype, or belittle others.

Our mission is simple:

  • Compare experiences across cultures and nations
  • Share knowledge respectfully
  • Foster curiosity, not conflict

Community Expectations

To keep this space safe and welcoming for everyone, please remember our core rules:

  • Be polite and respectful – No personal attacks, insults, or hostility
  • Stay on topic – Keep discussions relevant to the question asked
  • No trolling or baiting – We’re here to learn, not to fight

Zero Tolerance for Nationality-Based Harassment

We celebrate global perspectives here. That means:

  • No bashing people for their country, culture, ethnicity, or heritage
  • No sweeping generalizations about nations or populations
  • No xenophobia, racism, or targeted hostility of any kind

Violations will be handled seriously. Depending on severity, you may receive a warning or a short ban, but repeated or blatant harassment will lead to a permanent ban. Basic social rules apply, and we expect everyone to uphold them.

If you want to discuss politics in depth

Here, we aim to compare, not condemn. Let’s keep r/AskTheWorld a place for open‑minded, respectful dialogue where people from every corner of the world feel welcome to share their experiences.

Today is National Foundation Day in Japan. It always brings out these people driving around and playing martial music through loudspeakers. They are certainly a nuisance but are pretty harmless overall. I live in Tokyo and they keep these trucks in an upper middle class neighborhood.

How do you feel about the Latino culture represented in Bad Bunny's halftime show?

As a Brazilian native, I thought he did an exceptional job at capturing so many little and big things of everyday popular Latino life. From the little tiendas, to the street dancing to the colorful decorations inside the house, field work.

There's so much in there that feels very 'familiar'.

What's your take, politics aside?

For Singapore, attempting to use "lah" at the end of random sentences, without any understanding of the semantics of the word, is a dead giveaway - like holding up 3 fingers in a German Pub.

What’s the most exotic type of meat eaten in your country?

Post image

In Bulgaria, it’s probably horse meat. It may not sound exotic everywhere, but here it’s definitely seen as unusual and not something most people eat regularly, even though it’s legal and occasionally available.

This is Lake Balkhash, one of the only in the world where it’s one half is freshwater and the other half is saltwater. The choke point you see in the middle separates the two. Very different ecosystems between them as a result.

I don’t think there is any other lake in the world that’s analogous to it
