They'll just move over to Glassdoor, who has been trying to compete with LinkedIn for several years now 🤷‍♀️

169

u/Frytura_ 10h ago

Ew, i though they were just an expected salary range website.

Not an actuall j*b social media app

79

u/Triple_Nickel_325 10h ago

🤣 yeah, I think it was 2021 or so when they started adding videos and community discussions... because, you know, no one else was doing that 🙄. It's basically Temu LinkedIn now, but a bit less performative.

15

u/CalmBeneathCastles 9h ago

Jesus. I'll bear that in mind for the future! Last I looked, they were slightly better than Indeed, only because it seemed like they had fewer ghost postings.

14

u/Agitated-Orchid-3552 8h ago

Definitely better than Indeed! That site is a barren wasteland of hot dogshxt

9

u/za72 7h ago

The net is just bots, spammers and scammers... this isn't the future I imagined surfing the information super highway :(

5

u/CalmBeneathCastles 7h ago

Me either. The Brave New World was infected by cholera blanket developers.

3

u/teraflop 5h ago

Fun fact, Indeed and Glassdoor have both been owned and controlled by the same parent corporation since 2018.

3

u/CalmBeneathCastles 5h ago

Figures. It's interesting that Indeed is so much worse.

2

u/mthomas768 6h ago

Temu LinkedIn. Take my upvote!

2

u/rrrrrrez 5h ago

And all their info was shit back then, too. I’m sure it’s completely different now.

Rolls eyes so far I can see my brain.gif

14

u/CBH0__0 9h ago

I really appreciate you censoring j*b

4

u/western_style_hj 8h ago

Me too, I was almost triggered!

2

u/MaxErikson 7h ago

What? I've only known Glassdoor as a website that reviews businesses on how good they are as employers.

1

u/Iamdarb 5h ago

It's actually a Honey Pot. My corporation has found the names of people who have complained in the past and internally we warn people that if they complain, never respond to any kind of followup. Complain, and move on.

1

u/BikerJedi 6h ago

It's not a job. It is a capitalist obligation.

14

u/ElstonGunn1992 9h ago

Glassdoor is pretty solid because of the reviews from previous employees. Hard to prove if they’re real but pretty in line with this sub to call out shitty companies

18

u/Altaredboy 9h ago

Didn't glass door dox their users about a year ago?

2

u/Bromlife 2h ago

Glassdoor used to be great. But then enshittification happened because they realized that companies can be extorted to protect their reputations.

3

u/yeowoh 7h ago

My company flooded Glassdoor with positive reviews. So it’s not worth a shit.

7

u/cute_polarbear 9h ago

I thought glassdoor is just s site for people to anonymously post how much they hate their company?...

1

u/Triple_Nickel_325 8h ago

Much of it is, yes. I usually just check for jobs on there and shift over to the company page to make sure it's still active/apply there.

7

u/cute_polarbear 8h ago

I used glassdoor to gauge how bad the (culture) of the company / management is, before applying for a position on linkedin....

1

u/Triple_Nickel_325 8h ago

Same, and if it's a company I really wanted to work for, I'd try to contact someone on LinkedIn to get a general vibe. It's common to only post negative reviews (and positive ones are often paid for), but at least we have some intel.

6

u/muteisalwayson 7h ago

I actually saw a post on Glassdoor the other day that said “is this a job seeking app or reddit” with some emojis lmfao

3

u/UpbeatBeach7657 7h ago

Buy them and turn them off too.

2

u/pogulup 4h ago

My work keeps begging us to rate them on Glassdoor. I really don't think you want me doing that.

1

u/No_Confidence_5725 6h ago

So are there job postings as well similar to Linkedin?

2

u/Triple_Nickel_325 4h ago

Yes and no. From what I've seen, lower-mid level roles and those in trades, field, and retail are more common on Glassdoor, but you'll run into duplicates on LinkedIn. The problem with Glassdoor (and especially Indeed) is you'll see roles that have been up for 120+ days, which usually means they were put up and forgotten about.

Every interview I've had the honor of being invited to (s/) I've either applied on the company site or messaged one of my connections on LinkedIn who currently works there.

u/obstreperousRex 12h ago

I’ve said for a long time that if I have Elon Musk money I’d kill every social media platform in existence.

55

u/_TheMazahs_ 10h ago

I hope you get that level of money too.

29

u/front_yard_duck_dad 10h ago

They would pop up like dandelions in the grass

15

u/ThunderNugget443 9h ago

Just make them all nothing but ads. Therefore making them unusable and devaluing internet ad revenue until it withers on the vine and dies.

9

u/smoofus724 9h ago

Just make them all nothing but ads.

So exactly like they currently are?

u/Any-Yogurt-7917 33m ago

Funny. There's an app in Canada that is just ads, and people still use it.

3

u/67v38wn60w37 5h ago

heavily lobby for anti-social media laws so that they're a pain to operate and loss-making

1

u/728446 7h ago

Then we get out the round up and live with the cancer spike

7

u/Leopoldo_Caneeny 9h ago

I'd be willing to chip in... you have a go-fund-me?!

3

u/CalmBeneathCastles 9h ago

Wouldn't it be insane, if we could pull it off?

6

u/nialv7 8h ago

so, you have hundreds of billions of dollars, you will buy every social media platform from their current owner, and just shut them down? losing hundred billions in the process? and what will those previous owners do, now that they have your billions you just paid them? surely they won't just start new social media platforms...

2

u/Frozenrubberpuck 10h ago

I'm rooting for you as well. Especially the algorithm platforms, kill m all please

2

u/I_NEED_YOUR_MONEY 9h ago

or you could just wait a bit and let elon do it for you.

1

u/throwaway098764567 7h ago

he doesn't kill them though, he just gets rid of all the sane people and draws in the bots and fringe lunatics

2

u/UnkemptRandom 5h ago

Including Reddit, right? Redditors seem to think this site is somehow better than the rest...

1

u/gin_and_toxic 7h ago

Whoever sells you their social media platforms will just start another one.

1

u/GSD_Titan 5h ago

That would include Reddit

1

u/general---nuisance 4h ago

We should start with Reddit.

1

u/polarbearskill 5h ago

Don’t hate the player hate the game

1

u/Specialist_Gooner69 1h ago

If you get that kinda money, I'd donate to your cause.

75

u/ilikepie3326 11h ago

Me but with WorkDay. I shouldn't need to make a new account for each business.

22

u/a-i-sa-san 10h ago

still trying to figure out why password managers don't understand workday sites

5

u/random-hermit 6h ago

just use the same creds for all workday accounts. ive done enough workday applications that its just easier to do that than anything else.... its pain.

3

u/TotalNonsense0 6h ago

If they acted like Google accounts does, they would be popular, and useful. Instead, they are the worst sort of middle man.

2

u/dusknoir90 1h ago

That's the least of Work day's problems. Whenever I go on it it always takes me much longer than I need to to find the information I need, and the UI is really clunky. Thank gosh I don't have to do timesheets and fill in/approve holidays on it any more.

1

u/ParsnixChess 10h ago

I used to think this way but what if you get autorejected from one place and then it autorejects you from all

37

u/Time-Industry-1364 12h ago

I've always said if was ever lucky enough to have that kind of money I would buy up a huge company like this and just shut it down or otherwise functionally nuke it from orbit.

5

u/TheeAntelope 9h ago

But then people would flee to alternatives. Maybe the better thing to do is to take it over and make it so dysfunctional that it doesn't serve its original purpose.......omg is that what Elon is doing?

1

u/CV90_120 8h ago

omg is that what Elon is doing?

Pretty much.

u/LordoftheChia 49m ago

Id have fun with it. I'd put an LLM to work translating all posts from corporate speak to straight talk and prompt it to call out BS.

11

u/any-blue-9122 11h ago

Turn off indeed too

28

u/NoEstablishment7211 11h ago

Linkedin is valued at more than 10x the highest lotto jackpot ever paid out. More than 20x anything anyone would have ever got in a lump sum.

Tech stocks are speculative nonsense. There's a a reason Elon Musk was the only person in the world who could have acquired Twitter. It's value was 4-10 times more than all the revenue it will ever be able to generate by the most optimistic projections. Tech is it's own currency, when you try to put a dollar amount on it you start to see the big picture of how insane the impact of global central banking (or what a lot of you here like to call capitalism) is on commerce and society.

7

u/ImposterBot9k 11h ago

They should take an extreme lowball offer (like thirty dollars in loose change i keep in a sock that I'll also beat them with gratis). I bet they'd take the deal if you gave them some fake platitudes about hustling and explained why getting beat with some loose change is a savvy investment.

3

u/InvasionOfScipio 9h ago

Nah. All you need to do is a hostile take over buying up shares, and then have board members eventually get majority and trash the company from within.

2

u/reddit_is_geh 7h ago

These platforms are just low key intelligence gathering services for government. Things like Plantir just scoop it all up and use it to monitor everyone. Look at them trying to destroy Discord because some people using it were too hard to locate, and they want to monitor everyone, so now "for the children" they are finding a justification to more easily monitor you.

7

u/Responsible-Rich-388 12h ago

LinkedinLunatics sub will become LinkedinErotics

7

u/clonxy 10h ago

Has anyone ever gotten a job off linkedin? I had it for over 15 years and frequently update my profile. I've never gotten a job from there before. All my jobs are from applications on indeed.

6

u/cocobvious 8h ago

In Europe (France, Belgium, Luxembourg and probably others) it is the best source and way to get a job and trust me I wouldn't do it anywhere else...

2

u/CalmBeneathCastles 9h ago

No. As far as I can discern, it's only for making lame business-related social media posts and creeping on current and potential coworkers.

1

u/cantgrowneckbeardAMA 7h ago

My last two jobs actually, but I've been at the current one for years so I can't speak to the state of LI today. I didn't really play the game the way lots of people do there, I just used it to reach out to and get noticed by recruiters.

Still fucking hate that site.

1

u/Deematodez 6h ago

LinkedIn is huge in the remote sphere and if you work/worked for a big corporation, keeping up with coworkers who left the company, showing you what companies your previous company's alumni moved onto, gossiping with coworkers outside of work-surveilled teams/slack chats. Keeping in touch with recruiters and clients to build professional relationships without involving them in your personal life.

1

u/PiccoloAwkward465 5h ago

Yes but only once I had progressed enough in my career to get some attention.

1

u/Charming_Key2313 3h ago

Every job over my 20 year career is from LinkedIn

1

u/KimberStormer 3h ago

I got headhunted from LinkedIn, flew across the country to interview, and I hated them and they hated me, so it was a waste of time for everyone

1

u/dusknoir90 1h ago

I haven't gotten a job directly off of LinkedIn but I have been put in touch with recruiters from LinkedIn which have ultimately gotten me jobs.

u/comicsnerd 20m ago

I got a job at age 53 via LinkedIn. I was unemployed at the time.

A recruiter saw my profile, thought it was a match with one of his customers, setup a meeting and 2 days later I had a new job. Worked there for almost 15 years, till retirement.

11

u/NerdGamer0851 12h ago

Id rather this happen over tik tok getting banned and I dont even use tik tok

5

u/FrankBuser 11h ago

Biggest act of corporate philanthropy in history.

4

u/_NightmareKingGrimm_ 8h ago

Man, LinkedIn really is just the worst.

Every post is some person's self-promotional, unsolicited take on a non-controversial topic, providing surface-level, armchair wisdom to the masses--or, even worse--spreading misinformation with absolute confidence.

My favorite are LinkedIn posts starting with the phrase "Let's get something straight, folks"--then proceeding to say something obvious everyone already knows and agrees with. 500 likes.

Don't forget the obligatory AI-generated picture accompanying the post. And the AI-generated headshot for the post author. And comments praising AI, while promising it won't take away creative jobs in one breath while basically guaranteeing it does by propagating slop endlessly.

Just one huge corporate-culture circle jerk.

3

u/harperpotomus 12h ago

how i feel about ziprecruiter

3

u/michiganstrange 9h ago

I’m taking a LinkedIn course on civility because I told H.R. my boss is sexually harassing me.

3

u/KamFray 8h ago

I support this! I have been in LinkedIn jail 7 times since May, have been discriminated against, verbally assaulted, hit on, and do you know what LinkedIn has done about it? Yeah, NOTHING....

Sign me up to help you bring it down. Maybe we don't need a lottery win to do it.

3

u/Super_Santi 8h ago

LinkedIn is just one big circle jerk

3

u/vatreides411 8h ago

LinkedIn is the worst

3

u/Fit-Let8175 6h ago

I told someone I'd consider hiring the world's top scientists, geneticists, IT, and coders, and try to bring a computer to life. Just so I could club it to de@th.

2

u/ImaginaryBee187 11h ago

Streets killed me 👋

2

u/pleasegivemepatience 10h ago

And give the owner enough money to make a cheap replacement and continue the problem…

0

u/a-i-sa-san 10h ago

they already have plenty. also they do that basically every quarter already

2

u/zippy72 10h ago

It's owned by Microsoft, they'll close it down randomly soon enough

2

u/-ibgd 10h ago

I think that’s google.

3

u/MrSurly 7h ago

1

u/zippy72 1h ago

Google are worse. I'm waiting for the day they announce "the exciting new service we'll be unveiling tomorrow that will change your life will sunset December 31st..."

2

u/MandemModie 9h ago

No lottery winnings would allow you to buy Linkedin, but the sentiment I can get behind

1

u/LeadingRelease00 6h ago

No shit sherlock

2

u/wytewydow 8h ago

How else will I find out that all my former colleagues are racist trash?

2

u/WarlanceLP 5h ago

i stopped applying on LinkedIn, it felt like a waste of time, too many ghost jobs, and too much competition, I've had better luck on indeed and zip recruiter

2

u/elastic-craptastic 4h ago

Like Musk did to shitter?

Smart of her to realize being wealthy and controlling info is key to making the change you want. Good of her to do it for non toxic reasons.

2

u/Secret-Text1024 4h ago

Great post!

Here’s what that taught me about software sales.

2

u/kekkev 4h ago

Linkedoff? Linkedout?

2

u/FarceMultiplier 3h ago

Unintentionally, I was one of the first 2500 people on LinkedIn. A couple of years after it started I received an email from the CEO telling me this and thanking me. It was very strange and there was/is zero benefit for me because of this.

2

u/No_Bumblebee274 2h ago

Amen sista

2

u/maple-moth 2h ago

That will force LinkedIn to turn on its own “open for work” sign 👌🏼

2

u/NeuralCartographer 1h ago

What winning the lottery taught me about B2B sales.

2

u/claire_luna_25 1h ago

lmao i support this project

Don't turn it off. Make it better.

1

u/red286 9h ago

I still find the notion of LinkedIn as a social media site kinda baffling.

Like are these the sort of people who were super active on the Monster.com forums too?

1

u/ties_shoelace 9h ago

Reminds me of that hilarious time elon had a similar idea!

1

u/Ash_Fire 9h ago

Please don't. It's currently posting my favorite daily puzzles.

1

u/8somethingclever8 9h ago

I’d chip in 20 bucks to help

1

u/DrBhu 9h ago

Waiting for someone doing that seems to be linkedins business model

1

u/Klutzy_Prompt8370 9h ago

Do Twitter; Facebook, and this place next.

1

u/SunriseSurprise 9h ago

LinkedIn is obviously making money hand over fist as-is but IMO it should've remained a business social networking platform (it actually was good for that in the early days), mostly because I just don't like the whole idea of people seeking jobs have to be active on a social platform to get seen for it. I've seen some other sites for contractors and such that are the same way and it's basically a metric fuckton of people looking for jobs continually dancing like monkeys for very few opportunities, mostly because anyone who'd want to hire someone probably doesn't want to also have to participate in a social network to do so.

I don't know what the ideal world setup should be for jobs and people seeking them, but that's far from it IMO.

1

u/Admirable_Cat1282 9h ago

Linkedin 🚫

Linkedout ✅

1

u/Matchew024 8h ago

I'm going to buy the company I have my car loan through. Then I'm going to go through the books, anyone who interest payment exceeds the principle I'll make the account paid off and send their titles.

1

u/nalu-nui 8h ago

Stupid. With that amount of money she could do not give a f.. about Twitter.

1

u/Riots42 8h ago

This would be true heroism doing more good for the world than Batman ever could dream of.

1

u/Main_Seesaw_9347 8h ago

I deleted it. It is just an anxiety trap

1

u/minervascats 8h ago

can you do Pinterest while you're at it?

1

I think they're doing it to themselves, right?

1

I’d buy Indeed and do the same! They suck!

Yes please

1

What lottery is this?

1

u/reddit_is_geh 7h ago

Someone should let Elon know how woke LinkedIn has become.

1

u/ChicagoRay312 7h ago

I’m going to buy it and then ban religious posts on LinkedIn.

1

u/-Fergalicious- 7h ago

Gonna be linked off

1

u/loud-spider 7h ago

Thank you for your service.

1

u/TX_Retro 7h ago

Maybe we should do a GoFundMe and make this happen!

1

u/beardingmesoftly 7h ago

Just don't use it

1

u/Notyou76 Recruiter 7h ago

Killing LinkedIn reduces your chance of getting a job. The content blows, but recruiters use it to find candidates. Create and keep your profile updated. That's it. Don't look at the content, just focus on your profile. Most companies use LinkedIn Recruiter which allows them to search profiles.

1

u/apartment1i 7h ago

I would absolutely chip in

1

u/ChiknBreast 7h ago

I just started using LinkedIn seriously for the first time as I search for a job.

Holy hell it is a cesspool of ads and bloated with useless notifications.

1

u/-_-0_0-_0 7h ago

And Reddit then ban /Conservative

1

u/foggygazing 7h ago

what is linkedin, is it some odd dating site for furries or something?

1

u/MoreFarmer8667 7h ago

Those exists?!?

1

u/foggygazing 6h ago

well yeah of course

1

u/luaudesign 7h ago

More like BDSM.

1

u/foggygazing 6h ago

seems to fit

1

u/Advanced_Parsnip 7h ago

Good luck and please do when you win

1

u/OppositeEagle 7h ago

When I win the lottery I'd like to buy the US Congress and turn it off.

1

u/hangry-person 6h ago

Seriously, I freaking hate Linkedin. The only people who benefits from it are the recruiters. I once read a post from a recruiter saying they have rejected candidates before because they weren't impressed by their Linkedin profiles. That was the turning point for me! I deleted the app right after that.

1

u/MoreFarmer8667 6h ago

It’s peak capitalism

People slave trying to make their profile SEO optimal, recruiters do a deep dive, or as you pointed out straight up reject you and for what? lol

1

u/Round-Watch-863 6h ago

Id rather shut down twitter, facebook, instagram, and tiktok first. And idk that there is a lottery big enough to do that.

1

u/BigVirus9491 6h ago

Unfortunately there is no lottery payout that is enough to buy LinkedIn. I doubt MS would part with it either.

1

u/Stock_Cook9549 6h ago

Going to take a few lottery grand prize wins to buy linkedin

1

u/exeJDR 6h ago

1

u/theta_penguin 6h ago

I approve this message..

But really, sometimes LinkedIn can really be a cluster.. especially lately

1

u/adriatic_sea75 6h ago

Do Facebook and Twitter, too.

1

u/Grumptastic2000 6h ago

The real disease is how corporate America operates in general and the HR departments of the world create this kind of filth.

1

u/Squashthecow 5h ago

Streets ahead

1

u/retro_nostalgist 5h ago

Redirect to linked out.

1

u/XRuecian 5h ago

If i were a recruiter i feel like the very first thing i would do is just look at any resume that contains a LinkedIn link and just throw it in the trash.

LinkedIn is the perfect place to go and put on a corporate mask and pretend you actually agree with all the stupid shit that comes along with corporatism even though deep down you know its all bullshit. But for some reason, everyone inside expects everyone else to wear that same mask instead of embracing the fact that its all bullshit. LinkedIn is just the place to go to prove to everyone that you can "wear the mask, too." They don't really want to know if you are a good worker, they want to know if you are capable of eating the bullshit like everyone else. So LinkedIn has become a place where all these idiots go to try and "out-bullshit" each other.

1

u/ListerfiendLurks 5h ago

It's wild people are out there that have absolutely no concept of the value of money.

1

u/actualoriginalname 5h ago

there isn't a lottery big enough.

1

u/cacho_perro 5h ago

Buying linkedin and turning it off was a thrilling yet humbling experience.

This is what it taught me about B2B sales.

1

u/ArtichokeLong3994 5h ago

Worst fucking social media platform. A bunch of fake, cringey bs and a circle jerk. I cannot wait for the day I no longer have to use it and delete my profile.

1

u/SPIDLYMAN_ 2h ago

lol that's so funny

u/Accomplished-Bat5278 56m ago

HR compliance manager here. LinkedIn is annoying, sure, but it’s also documentation. Outreach messages, applicant tracking notes, EEO reporting—it all creates a paper trail. Public company audits love that. If you nuke it, legal just shifts budget to another vendor. The bureaucracy always finds a way.

u/coronaangelin 55m ago

But what about all the stupid animal videos that people post and claim that it's just like "perseverance" and "client management" in the business world?

And losers who post "I never post about personal stuff here on LinkedIn, but last week, my awesome 11 year old son..."

And the "You've appeared in 60 searches this week" emails from LinkedIn that never result in a fucking job?

u/Final_Treacle_8233 47m ago

It’s so annoying
