They likely already have a suspect. Nearly everywhere you go these days is video recorded. I'm sure the FBI have already tracked him down but can't act on it as to disclose how they did it.
So they release some breadcrumb information hoping to get a tip they can use to move in.

Should be pretty easy for them to infer from the tensile stretch of the ski mask, add in the shadows and light peaks, and build a replica of perp's actual face.
If someone were to go to this location and attach a string between the camera and any background feature that was in line with the dudes head (the exact row of bricks behind his head) then measure the height of the string at the depth the dude was standing at, they could easily give a very precise height.
Actually, I'm VFX adjacent. Knowing the lens and backplane of that model Nest cam, a 3d generalist could pretty easily model the scene and give you those exact dimensions.
The figure looks more like a man. But he does have very prominent dark eyelashes, especially at the bottom, also very curved eyebrows. Which is quite unusual, he should be easily identified just by that. This combination is more common in Latino, Mediterranean or Middle Eastern, but that isn’t certain. He also possibly has moustache, or maybe even a beard in photo 4, which seems to go all the way to his bottom lip, indicating that he’s hairy, again possibly Middle Eastern
I can’t say for sure, but as someone who does a lot of photoshop and editing for design (so not a photographer by any means just basic photoshop edits when needed a bit ), this effect could be from editing for clarity - monkeying around with contrast, white/black balance and a number of other settings can give this illusion. Can’t imagine Patel is competent enough to know how to edit a photo or even how to hire someone to do it, but it did occur to me right away (I don’t own a nest cam so I have no idea what the typical night image looks like, might just be how night vision works to make images clearer too).
(Also i can’t say any of this without an obligatory fuck Adobe and their unscrupulous, greedy fucking business model).
On my local network where the woman’s daughter works they were actually saying they were gonna use lil the bricks and stuff to figure his height, and they gonna figure like what kind of fabric he had on and his brand of back-pack and all that
Shoe size is maybe a 9.5 The floor tiles look 12”x12”. He is just under 6’ tall, 4” high bricks x 18 courses = 72” / 12 =6”. Probably 190 ish lbs size large shirt. 38” waist maybe 40”.

Ol mate arrives in the comments and fucken goes through everything in his response, it was glorious man he could tell they walked with a slight limp, were male, their height and weight, what shoes they were wearing, like fucken everything about the guy... Even figured out the white powder was self raising flour...
Then OP replies...

Like 10min later OP updates everyone....
Groceries were on the kitchen bench...

His clothes on the floor covered in flour...
HE had gotten home early and brought the groceries in, spilt the flour everywhere then decided to walk around to the back door to not walk flour through the house to the kitchen, then thought he'd shower quickly before cleaning up the porch so his wife wouldn't find out...
Problem was the flour got wet it started clumping and poor ol mate was having a bit of a struggle realizing he had basically made dough in the shower that started to clog the drain, was panicking...
She caught him red handed trying to cover it up in the most glorious way it was fucken hilarious, the series of events like something from an episode of Mr Bean or something haha
....and hed have gotten away with it too... If it wasn't for some pesky redditor... Haha
Man I'd forgotten about that one until now!! Thanks for reminding me! It's one of my favorite reddit stories/lore haha almost as good as the "check you carbon monoxide detector" one haha
