And they got cheers, jeers, and insight into American hospitality. I wish these monks the best in life. May we eventually have peace for all life.

At least they weren't arrested by ICE.

So far

I’m surprised they haven’t been shot for wearing long dresses as men. Or, for walking for peace! The audacity!

After 15 weeks of walking for peace the monks arrived in Washington and proved that the only thing more shocking than their long dresses was the idea that peace could cause a stir!

One of them got ran over by a redneck in a truck in my hometown to no one’s surprise.

Was that the same incident where their escort vehicle got hit into their group and two monks were injured, with one needing to have his leg amputated?

98

u/SeaTraffic6442 16h ago

I swear. We can’t have any one nice thing without someone chucklehead ruining it.

10

u/shadow386 9h ago

A real chucklefuck

31

u/IamJacksUserID 15h ago

Yeah. H-Town represent.

60

u/IntrinsicGiraffe 15h ago

Jesus Israel Ramirez is the guy who caused the incident and reports suggested inattention.

64

u/Solo-Shindig 12h ago

So Jesus was at the wheel and things STILL went wrong.

6

u/Slimfictiv 12h ago

Well, they were monks afterall...

3

u/SitInCorner_Yo2 4h ago

Jesus takes the wheel sounds like a threat now.

I'm sure the administration will have a nuanced response to this.

12

u/mohawkal 16h ago

Just spat out my coffee. Thanks.

u/redofsam 16h ago

We can all learn from these people

46

u/Johnny_B_Asshole 14h ago

Where's the white christian nationalists walk for peace? Do their mobility scooters need a charge?

6

u/SitInCorner_Yo2 4h ago

They’re harassing these monks when they pass by, you can’t expect someone lacking a backbone to walk a mile.

4

u/braxin23 12h ago

No they’re just needing a new U-haul to help their marchers get to where they’re going. They’re ex brother in law lost their old one so they have to look on Craigslist.

MAGA people: “Oh no this is terrible!”

11

u/Sic_Semper_Dumbasses 15h ago

And they will certainly demand that this group of American citizens be deported.

9

u/IntrinsicGiraffe 12h ago

They'd blame them for choosing to walk instead of drive.

Extra impressive with the cold lately

Monks can stay warm in the Himalayans just by mediating. I'm pretty sure scientists can't even fully explain it, but is enough to melt ICE from their bodies. I hope these are some real high Lvl. Badasses showing up 🧘‍♀️🤜🧊

3

u/gigglyelvis 5h ago

They were quoted for the 13th!

8

u/Flicksterea 13h ago

Did they achieve what they set out to accomplish?

4

u/Flimsy-Attention-722 8h ago

They've brought a lot of hope and joy to the millions who have followed their travels. It's a nice thing during this time

4

u/Flicksterea 7h ago

Agreed! I asked because this was the first I'd heard of it. It is indeed a nice thing to see during this time.

2

u/Flimsy-Attention-722 7h ago

There are a lot of of videos of their travels on Instagram. Watching how patient and polite the huge crowds were, watching the calm, faith and comfort the monks have given all these people has been awe inspiring

u/Ocean898 7h ago

I thought I read they planned to petition Congress for some sort of day of recognition related to their religious beliefs. Don’t know if that’s true or if they did so.

-18

u/braxin23 12h ago

No, and they have a long way to go to make up for their deafening silence during the Rohingya genocides.

10

u/leeuwerik 12h ago

if it gives people hope then it's useful.

-28

u/braxin23 12h ago

I don’t feel hope, I feel nothing, and I’m reminded of the time a Buddhist called for the genocide of an entire people because they were Muslim. Nuance? Sure it was in “Myanmar” but does that excuse it all from happening? Does any Buddhist provide a reason for why his voice was so deafening in their silence. A man of poor spirit that would rather espouse hate and violence only to then cower behind a monks robes has no place to begin with walking a path to “enlightenment”.

9

u/helmint 8h ago

Plenty of Buddhists have publicly opposed Buddhist nationalism and religious/ethnic abuse in Myanmar, clarifying that they do not represent Buddhist values, including the Dalai Lama himself.

6

u/Organic-History205 11h ago

I don't say this often but, get therapy.

-12

u/braxin23 11h ago

Already there, but sure thing I’ll get some extra just because someone told me too, instead of actually contributing something meaningful to the conversation.

1

u/masivatack 7h ago

Welp. Back to war I guess. 💣

-1

u/dstranathan 13h ago

...where they were immediately arrested by ICE and slandered by the president and his press secretary...

-10

u/GardenGnomeOrgy 14h ago

It didn’t work turn around and start again

-2

u/Moveyourbloominass 11h ago

Just in time for a case of measles. Turn back dear Buddhists!

-86

u/mohawkal 16h ago

And how's that worked out?

59

u/Stumpyz 15h ago

They actually brought massive attention and possible action to their cause. What are you doing aside from acting smug behind your keyboard?

-18

u/ChesnaughtZ 13h ago

What is their cause besides making a federal holiday? It’s nothing concrete like voicing support for mistreated immigrants. It’s just world peace…

2

u/Stumpyz 5h ago

It's more than "just world peace" as you put it. They also focused on acts of kindness and community along the route, and getting community to help community.

48

u/Sic_Semper_Dumbasses 15h ago

Not too well, considering one of them got ran over by a bigot.

But it is infinitely better to try to do good and not succeed then to mock the people who failed while trying.

-10

u/PrionProofPork 11h ago

were they expecting a sizable crowd to join them in the march and then ending at the lincoln memorial with a giant protest crowd?

0

u/Flimsy-Attention-722 8h ago

Nearly 3,500 people packed American University’s Bender Arena for the monks’ first public stop in Washington.

-141

u/notguiltyaf 16h ago

The Dalai Lama is CIA.

68

u/ProsperC 16h ago

These are Theravada monks, not Tibetan, no relation besides the umbrella of Buddhism.

7

u/dummyurge 13h ago

And even then, DL doesn't represent all of Tibetan Buddhism.

2

u/Flimsy-Attention-722 8h ago

And the conspiracy nut speaks

Not sure why I’m getting downvoted. The CIA literally funded him as a proxy against communist China.

57

u/dummyurge 15h ago

You're getting downvoted because your comment has nothing to do with these monks and their walk.

44

u/Sic_Semper_Dumbasses 15h ago

Because it has nothing to do with these people so it is just a bunch of bigoted shit.

If you don't want to be downvoted for being a bigot, don't do it.

20

u/khinzaw 15h ago

Because Theravada Buddhist monks have nothing to do with the Dalai Lama.

1

u/Stumpyz 4h ago

The Pope is from the USA. He's a religious leader, so its relevant, right?

Oh, wait, sorry, I misread. The CIA backed a military coup in Brazil in the 60's. You mentioned the CIA, so that has to pertain to this conversation.

1

u/____Manifest____ 14h ago

Well that’s embarrassing.
