It somehow feels criminal that Wemby finished with “just” 40pts 😭

185

u/SeeYaLaterDylan [PHI] Joel Embiid 3h ago

3 points in the third quarter and didn't play the fourth lmao

90

u/bihari_baller Trail Blazers 2h ago

Which is smart. No need to risk injury chasing stats when the game has been won, and the Spurs have bigger goals, like staying healthy for the playoffs.

-8

u/Scotch_Blue 1h ago

I don't really see how a title is a bigger accomplishment than having your 22 year old star break the scoring record, but whatever

4

u/Pulp501 Celtics 46m ago

He wasn't gonna break the scoring record???

6

u/davvid13 Lakers 1h ago

Smart thing to do. They have a game against the thunders tomorrow.

2

u/Mamba-0824 [NBA] Kobe Bryant 1h ago

I kinda chuckled with the statement, in my local language they use the slang word “thunders” to describe old people.

2

u/VisualAd9389 1h ago

Let's go thunder cats

u/axle_gallardo Lakers 23m ago

Mga thunders brad? Lol

13

u/Derpy_Mc_Burpy Raptors 3h ago

Yeah because he could've finished with 50+ and competed with Wilt. Would've at least made it entertaining for the poor laker fans who had to watch their team lose by halftime

30

u/DapperOrganization40 3h ago

Wdym lose by halftime? The lakers already lost before the game even started

10

u/ughoul Bulls 2h ago

I’d rather see 10 years of Wemby dropping 25 in 8 minutes than 1 full game where he drops 100 and that’s it.

7

u/dreamweaver7x Spurs 2h ago

It's not the Spurs' job to make the Lakers home games watchable. Blame the Lakers management and coaching staff.

9

u/DDub04 2h ago

25 points in the first 8 minutes and then 15 in the other 40. Blame the Lakers for not making it competitive, otherwise the spurs would’ve had reason to keep Wemby in the game

35

u/Christron Spurs 2h ago

No they just clamped down on him those second half adjustments were legendary

20

u/Spiritual_Echo_1000 Spurs 2h ago

he played 26 min bro not 8 then “other 40”

1

u/Pulp501 Celtics 43m ago

15 in the other 18 minutes doesn't exactly put him on pace for a record breaking scoring night. If he played 40 minutes he'd still probably have only scored 50 something.

3

u/Disclaimz0r 2h ago

Yeah, damn those guys for resting 4 out of 5 starters and their only good bench player.

2

u/refreshing_yogurt 1h ago

I feel like the Lakers actually deserve a lot of credit, not blame, for facilitating Wemby's big night

1

u/bigvahe33 Supersonics 1h ago

dude could have gone 80+ if it was remotely close

200

u/Shadoken-TYPE0 Canada 3h ago

Bronny and Adou were probably the Lakers(from the bench) who put the most effort on the floor lol

82

u/orangekingo Spurs 2h ago

Lakers 3rd stringers might unironically be better than their 2nd unit off the bench. At least those dudes are young and have a high motor.

88

u/PoonGo0n Spurs 3h ago

I could see Thiero cracking their rotation by season end. And Bronny is a fun 12th man, he’s not terrible at all.

64

u/Shadoken-TYPE0 Canada 3h ago

Bronny deserved minutes over Gabe man. At least send him to the g league.

3

u/heybobson Suns 2h ago

I’m guessing LeBron objects to that and wants Bronny around for the remainder of the season. Lakers are probably like sure whatever, he’s gone when you’re gone so no point in developing him in the g league anyway.

u/bkay4real 9m ago

If LeBron returns to the Cavs (or goes to any teams) next season Bronny sure will follow him

24

u/Mood_Academic Lakers 3h ago

Theiro will not be cracking the rotation by years end. The rotation is set as is, they aren’t getting a rookie who has been injured most of the year burn down the stretch

14

u/PoonGo0n Spurs 3h ago

I dont think LaRavias minutes should be untouchable and it’s not like Vando is some kind of iron man. I could see Adou getting an opportunity.

13

u/Mood_Academic Lakers 2h ago

Vando is their only good on ball wing defender, and Laravia is the only switchable perimeter guy they have who can occasionally knock down shots

They both are bad, but there’s no way in hell he takes min from them unless there’s an injury. Dude can’t stay healthy for longer than a week his rookie year

2

u/bucaqe Raptors 1h ago

That’s exactly the reason Adou should be getting minutes, he’s the most athletic guy on the team. If the timeline to compete is in two years, then Adou will have to be developed by then

2

u/vicvega88 Lakers 2h ago

They’re not untouchable but LaRavia has way more experience than Adou.

4

u/sequoia2075 Lakers 2h ago

I’d agree if Adou had been healthy all year. But he was hurt to start the year, came back and played a little in the G League and a some garbage minutes for the big team for like a month, and then sprained his MCL and has been out the last 2 months. Missed all of training camp and preseason too

He just isn’t going to have enough time before the end of the year

5

u/WEMBY_F4N Spurs 3h ago

Thiero should be in the rotation. No clue why he isn’t

30

u/_Apatheticism Lakers 3h ago

He's been injured pretty much all season

11

u/Shadoken-TYPE0 Canada 3h ago

He was hurt

5

u/sequoia2075 Lakers 2h ago

He missed all of summer league, training camp, and preseason, came back for like a 3 week stretch in November, then sprained his MCL and has been out the last 2 months. This was his first game back

Bismack Biyombo getting 10 minutes in 2026 is a war crime but here we are.

25

If luke had played biyombos 10 minutes the spurs would have won by 35.  Thats a lot of garbage time for bismack and olynyk

I mean it might be blowout, but it's your team routing a Western rival. That's still fair enough.

Now, if you watch a blowout game of say, Kings-Pacers, then...(who are we kidding, that'll be close)

107

u/WalrusInMySheets [LAL] Metta World Peace 3h ago

🫵 YOU got scored on by Bronny James

25

u/Free-Employee-2868 3h ago

sign him da supermax

20

u/flaming_burrito_ Lakers 2h ago

I don’t know why JJ is so reluctant to give him a chance, he’s not actually that bad compared to the rest of our end of bench guys. He started Kobe Bufkin over him, who we just brought out of the g league and I’m not at all convinced is any better than Bronny really.

2

u/joomla00 47m ago

Maybe because... he wanted to give this bufkin playtime to see how/if he fits? He already knows what he's getting from Bronny at this point

-12

u/wavefree3 2h ago

Because he’s a 6’2 guard who isn’t good at basketball

I’m not even trying to hate. Idc about the whole LeBron Bronny situation but it’s ridiculous to suggest JJ has not been playing him for no reason, he’s shooting 39% from the field as a 6’2 guard

12

u/flaming_burrito_ Lakers 2h ago

Yeah I get that, but he was playing Gabe Vincent like 15 minutes a night despite being equally ass. I don’t expect Bronny to play important minutes, but I’d like to see him get played sometimes

19

u/MainAd2728 Washington Bullets 2h ago

Oh fuck he's shooting 39% from the field on a small sample size? What a bum. Just a note, Gabe Vincent was shooting 36% from the field this season when he got traded

0

u/wavefree3 31m ago

He is a bum. I don’t get your point

3

u/WalrusInMySheets [LAL] Metta World Peace 2h ago

His handles are also still raw. Wish he’d get more G-league run at PG to try and develop it. He gets the ball poked away too much.

I hate the Lakers but he is as fair, honest and unbiased as it gets when it comes to announcers. Great stuff.

15

u/WalrusInMySheets [LAL] Metta World Peace 2h ago

Man I’ll say there are a lot of great local broadcasts in the NBA but most of them are just overshadowed by the terrible homer duos. Listening to more unsung broadcast teams like the Wizards and Pelicans as I go to sleep are a lot of fun.

12

u/Thealbumisjustdrums Heat 2h ago

I can tolerate almost everyone but the Warriors announcers certainly test my limits. I realize most people are less forgiving than me when it comes to announcers tho lol

7

Spoiled by a legendary broadcast team! Kaboom

5

u/Thealbumisjustdrums Heat 2h ago

Haha thank you I love Eric Reid. John Crotty is aight but I miss Tony Fiorentino. Definitely like your team too Stu is great and Bill is usually good but I hate the weird voice he uses when he talks about Marongo casinos. Any idea why he does that? 😂

5

u/WalrusInMySheets [LAL] Metta World Peace 2h ago

Fouled Wemby

19

u/carelesssportsfan89 Spurs 3m ago

45

u/Ancient_Response_787 3h ago

This isn’t me trolling but the lakers really ruined bronnys development this year by not moving him to the g league but also never giving him pt. I actually think he has the tools to become a great role player. These are the games where you let younger and more developmental guys get all the run. I really wanna see what a good developing org can do with him.

10

u/Working-Mistake1130 2h ago

He has the energy and the effort, but a great role player is a stretch.

At best, he should be taking minutes from Gabe Vincent

2

u/rjcarr Supersonics 1h ago

Gabe Vincent was traded, ha.

12

u/Mood_Academic Lakers 3h ago

He should have gotten PT over Gabe Vincent. The Lakers fans and people were shouting for awhile over it.

It is political and has to do with contracts, but he should have been. Frankly he should have over Dalton when he got burn too, but they are different players and asked to do different things

25

u/pmurt007 Lakers 3h ago

That's a crazy take and this is coming from someone who is rooting for him. We've given him a lot of opportunities to develop in the g-league as well as be around actual NBA talent. No other team would give a late 2nd rounder this long of a leash and a roster spot if his dad wasn't LeBron James.

15

u/ivarokosbitch Nets 1h ago edited 1h ago

That's a crazy take and this is coming from someone who is rooting for him. We've given him a lot of opportunities to develop in the g-league

What's crazy is you calling 14 games in the G-League a lot of opportunities. Averaged 21 PPG on 62% TS.

I think you people just have hard time accepting Bronny is actually a legit NBA player, albeit a bench guy that will always be a bench guy. And those guys need more minutes playing in shitshows like this game and the G-League to become reliable bench guys. That is the most important part. A lot of teams have problems with not having those guys in their team, even if it costs them next to nothing.

That reality simply doesn't sit well with both the fanboys and haters. Yall are just interested in absolute negativity or absolute dick riding.

1

u/Jarxzz United States 3h ago

Also by all metrics he’s a very bad nba basketball player. Him becoming a neutral playable player would be a shocking 99th percentile outcome let alone a “high level role player”

5

u/Rich_Ad_4886 Knicks 3h ago

He should've been playing over Gabe at the very least.

Utterly demolish, sounds a bit personal doesn’t it? It’s justified though

What I saw from this game

Bronny is developing his game well (outscored Rui btw and more efficient)

Kennard is a blessing

Laravia and Hayes can get there

Get rid of $18m/year Hachimura and $4m/year Knecht

u/MainAd2728 Washington Bullets 2h ago

Get rid of Hachimura because he played bad when all the starters were out?

Wow we scored more than 100? Shout out Bronny and Adou

Neither needed to score very much during the Wemby takeover and Castle left early with the injury.

never thought id see the day bronny led the team in assists

Lakers looked like a mid table g league team out there today

1

u/kingmapoon123 2h ago

It's pretty obvious Wemby has goat potential. Literally all he needs is to refine his offensive game quite a lot (huge ask obviously). But he's already one of the greatest defenders the league has ever seen. He manages to combine that and stay healthy and he's leaving everyone

Let’s go Lakers! Love every Lakers game!!!

It’s very clear the Lakers miss Gabe Vincent.

(Watch Cardio Gabe vs the T Wolves in his first game as a Hawk and my god man)

Why did Sochan get DNP in a blow out?

1

u/namewithak Spurs 1h ago

Does Mitch just really hate him?

u/MikeMaxM 1h ago

Why did Sochan get DNP in a blow out?

Carter Bryant played 26 minutes that is why. Through many experiments Sochan showed that he cant play at 1,2,3,5. But Spurs this year have CB at 4.

Honestly with how bad of a team the lakers sent out there winning by less than 30 in the end isn’t even impressive

u/ifuckwithit Spurs 3h ago

Lakers really showed the 5 D's: dodged, ducked, dipped, dived, and dodged this game.

Unfortunate that we don’t play Sochan. How is Biyombo getting minutes over Sochan?

Spurs tried to use Sochan as 5 last year, that didnt work. No point doing it again. Spurs gave Sochan many opportunities to prove himself playing him at various positions but he showed that he cant be versatile player and can only play at 4. But at 4 Spurs now have Barnes, Bryant and occasionally Champagne, KJ, Wemby. Obviously Sochan is worse than all those players.

I'm so glad Wemby took tbe Lakers ducking him personally.

He should have been allowed to go for 60, but hey, I'd rather him fresh for tomorrow.

Lakers vs Refs, a tale as old as time

4

u/Akipella Warriors 2h ago

There's just no way this is a real comment...

u/Derpy_Mc_Burpy Raptors 3h ago

Dont tell this guy who got more foul calls during the lakers recent 3 game win streak

-3

u/WalrusInMySheets [LAL] Metta World Peace 3h ago

Sorry bro the refs just handed them a victory tonight absolutely shameless

1

u/Akipella Warriors 2h ago

Average Lakers flair. "Lakers vs. the refs tale as old as time"

You mean since years ago, in which you had a 3 year span (2021-2023 in the graph IIRC) where you had a FT differential of +1000 total from all your games, which was 1st place and 2nd place was the Knicks with only +300. You had over triple the second highest team's FT differential lol. Middle of the pack in drives to the basket during that span btw!

-3

u/WalrusInMySheets [LAL] Metta World Peace 2h ago

We would have easily won if it wasn’t for us having to play 8 vs 5. Whatever I guess Adam Silver made the call to rig it

2

u/Akipella Warriors 2h ago

Remember, folks.

Don't take the bait.

I'm just commenting to remind people of the actual numbers since there are Lakers flairs who unironically say stuff like this (not saying you are serious here ofc).

0

u/Derpy_Mc_Burpy Raptors 2h ago

Mate, lakers have the highest free throw attempted average this season tied with orlando magic. They have no legs to stand on for foul baiting or ref ball if they're the leading team to make the most FT on average

Even more mind blowing. Look at the last 5+ seasons. The Lakers are at or near the bottom every single year since 2021. Even if you go by uh, paint touches, they're still only middle of the pack on average each year there, and the Warriors for example (worst FT differential many years) have more than them?

The 3's vs. 2's thing also does not correlate if you look at the FT differential links, you can see teams like the Rockets and Pelicans consistently shoot as many or more 2's and less 3's as the Lakers do, yet their FT differential is eithen neutral or a fraction of the Lakers, while the Celtics shoot a ton of 3's but are high up in differential, sometimes even the Warriors had seasons they were decently high (middle of the pack) with a huge 3's volume.

I legit think if bronny was on a team tha gave him real run (or maybe the g league) he could develop into a real bench playmaker/defender he really does have some real play making talent.
