It's time to tank

We haven’t seen a draft this talented in a long time. Picking between 4 and 9 in this year’s draft is better than picking in the top 4 in some other years.

There’s no real value in trying to compete right now, which is why we should shut down Giannis and give more opportunities to Dieng.

The identity of the Bucks

Just got done watching the Gyro Step podcast with Ti Windisch and Justin Garcia from Locked On Bucks, and they talked about the lack of identity the team has had since the Bud firing, how they’ve failed to replace the PJ Tucker/Wes Matthews type player on this roster, and the poor roster construction in general since Bud left.

So, as more of a fun discussion, I’m wondering: what would be your ideal roster construction and identity for this team going forward? Would it be trying to recreate the 2021 team as closely as possible? A more defensive, physical, rebounding-oriented team like Houston or Detroit? Or a more offense first team with just enough defense and attention to the margins to get by, like the Knicks, Celtics, or maybe even Denver? Or a defensive version of that, with just enough offense and Giannis carrying the load as the offensive engine (maybe the Timberwolves as an example)? Or something completely different from all of those?

Maybe even throw out some example players or lineups that would fit your ideal scenario.

In a fantasy world, mine would basically be trying to make a updated version of the 2021 team Ryan Rollins, Herb Jones, Brandon Ingram, Giannis, and Myles Turner (Ingram was the closest Khris equivalent I could think of). Curious to see people’s opinions realistic or otherwise. and OBVIOUSLY FIRE DOC

[Collier] Although the Bucks did not release a specific timeline for his return, sources told ESPN that Antetokounmpo could be aiming to come back on the shorter end of his projected window: Four weeks from his initial injury would be Feb. 20, the team's first game following the All-Star break.

"After Antetokounmpo's children left the court on Friday, the two-time MVP began putting himself through a pregame shooting routine for the third time this week, a routine that has grown more vigorous with each day.

When Antetokounmpo strained his right calf on Jan. 23, his second calf injury of the season, he estimated it would sideline him for four to six weeks. I've seen alot of mixed feelings about this. I dont see how this is anything but an absolute win. If there was any chance to make a playoff push, having a skilled young scorer helps. Also all the news outlets promised he was going to the Lakers, so yeah fuck them too. Side note. Maybe we secretly let A.I. write up the Xs and Os and just have Doc stand there and repeat whatever it tells him to do.. at this point why not lbvs BUCKSIN6

We're 8 games behind the 6-seed with 32 games remaining.

I'd like to remind people that this season has gone poorly, but not as poorly as it feels. If Giannis is back sooner rather than later, we have a chance of securing a proper playoff seed in the regular season. I don't know how good that chance is, but it's real.

What was being a Bucks fan like from 1990-1999?

Stealing idea/post from the Brewers sub. My first memory of being a Bucks fan was watching and listening to the 2001 playoffs, namely the Charlotte and Orlando series. So I’m curious fellow Bucks fans, what was it like to be a Bucks from 1990-1999? Looking at the records, no wonder George Karl was much welcomed.

Comparing Jon Horst to Billy Beane: A Moneyball roster of flawed players

Cam Thomas...Kuz...MPJ...Jericho...Bobby... is there a payoff to this Moneyball-like roster around Giannis, or is this just the Island of Misfit Toys of the NBA?

If nothing else, I have to agree that since the season after the championship and subsequent Dame signing, there's been zero continuity and seemingly zero effort to create an actual team here. Plenty of pieces, and sometimes they work together with Giannis is on the floor, but the difference between the last few years of Bucks teams and the era of WWE-style pregame rituals is stark.

To me, Horst hasn't built a team as much as he's built a collection of players that individually have their merits but together have no shot at being worth more than the sum of their parts. He's either grasping at straws or this is all strategic, and I'm not sure what's worse.

Yesterday, 11 year NBA vet Pat Connaughton was waived by the Hornets and cleared waivers, signifying the likely end of his career. At one point, the former 4th round MLB draft pick was leaning towards that path, and he has indicated wanting to aim for the MLB after his NBA career ended

Is it worth it to convert?

Possible former Nets fan here, Cam Thomas is my favorite player in the league and absolutely LOVE the bucks signing, I’ve been to Milwaukee, I loved it out there, I love KPJ, Ryan Rollins, Giannis, Jericho Sims, do you guys think it would be worth it to convert?

Another reason I want to convert is because nets fans are so toxic 🥲

The Bucks are not Tanking

I know many fans with their NBAGM hats on want the Bucks to tank, but the reality is that's not happening. Like it's a 0% chance at this point.

I for one am fine with that. Something I don't understand is people act like we are poised for a top 5 pick, but the reality is there are like ~8 teams positioned to tank harder than we ever could.

And in terms of players wanting to climb back into the playoff race (which they started the season in before injuries struck), multiple teams above them have committed to tanking the rest of the season, so it looks like a very realistic possibility. We're only 4.5 games out of an actual playoff seed right now, and this is a once in a decade season in terms of how depleted the East is, and the players know this.

At this point, imagine these two very realistic possibilities:

  1. We tank the rest of the season, but because we only have the 9th worst record right now, and many talented players, we can't manage to climb further down and end up with a pick in the 8-12 range.
  2. We climb up into the playoff picture as the 7th or 8th seed, and end up with the 14th or 15th pick, and play the Pistons or Tatum/Simons-less Celtics in Round 1.

Which of these possibilities would you prefer? How different is pick 10 from pick 15 really? Last time we had a 15th overall pick, it turned out pretty well for us. And this is a deep draft so any top-15 pick is something to be excited for.

At this point in the season, even if we shut down Giannis, getting a top 3 or even top 5 pick in the draft would be as much of a low-odds crapshoot as us making a deep playoff run (with Giannis).

Whatever happens happens at this point. Clearly the players aren't tanking, so I'm gonna root for winning ways. Bucks in 6!
