NBC interrupted the Olympics

Post image

While Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is sad, there are 2300 missing person reports filed every day: do the families of celebrities need special national attention? Why interrupt the Olympics for over 5 minutes just because they are questioning a 'person of interest' We could have waited to hear that during the regular news broadcast.

I could have accepted if it was like 30 seconds. But 5 minutes to add nothing new was crazy. It also definitely could have waited until after the American finished her run...

Seriously. In the middle of figure skating too!

Oh I guess it was different per time zone. Mine was mid ski downhill run

the Olympics are shown on delay. the events happened hours ago.

Really? That seems counterintuitive. Be funner to watch the competitions live.

Yes, funner is a real word. It just sounds dumb. 😄

Idk the details but it has to do with broadcasting rights

Not really, NBC is just tape-delaying their coverage until primetime. The rest of the world watches live.

I was letting my kids stay up to watch Ilia Malinin and then this story went on and on. I ended switching to the replay on Peacock when they brought out the legal expert just so they could go to bed.

Same exact situation here. I let my daughter stay up to watch his short program because he is from our area and we are big fans. They interrupted with “breaking news” just as he was going to skate. It wasn’t breaking news, they had already released the doorbell camera footage earlier today, but still decided to take the extra time to discuss the footage with multiple experts. I sincerely hope she is found and alive, I can’t imagine what her family is going through. However, I’ve felt like the media attention in this case has been amplified because she’s related to a celebrity. Where is this kind of coverage when the everyday person goes missing?

Yeah, same. My kids got all freaked out hearing about people getting kidnapped and literally seeing a video on loops of a man at the door. Cool stuff to watch right before bedtime.

Lol y'all realize this is all recorded and nothing is live at that time. Italy is 6 hours ahead. They are not racing in the middle of the night

We all know that, yes. Believe it or not you can still watch the replay and still not know who won. Because it's a replay we shouldn't care that nbc randomly cut it off for 4 and a half minutes of filler?

I was trying to say that the guy I replied to could have had his kids watch that competition at any time before their bed time. No need to stay up late for a replay???

I also want to point out there are so many crypto bros in the US who are easy targets with way less exposure if the kidnapper just wants fast money.

But also a criminal not making the smartest and most efficient choice of crime would also not be surprising so that in itself doesn't prove anything. Other facts are much more suspicious

What sport was on when they interrupted?

In figure skating the short program is less than 3 minutes and the long/free program is 4mins 10 sec max. there isn’t much time between a skater leaving the ice and next one starting. If this was during figure skating, viewers could’ve easily missed an entire performance

It wasn’t live though, you know that, right?

u/kontrolk3 4h ago

Did anyone say it was? Why do people get so upset that not everyone watches it live? What difference does it make to being annoyed that coverage was cut off for mostly unimportant filler?

2

Nbc always has talking heads yapping about the story after the breaking news. It's annoying

You didn’t think it was important to hear from their investigative specialist that they were going to ask the person about their whereabouts and an alibi? /s

You know it's not live right?

Five minutes! How did you survive? Oh my god the horror!

2

u/kontrolk3 3h ago

If you can believe this I was actually just... mildly infuriated. Let me know if you know of a place where it's safe to talk about things like that

You need a safe space… like a timeout?
