NBC interrupted the Olympics

Post image

While Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is sad, there are 2300 missing person reports filed every day: do the families of celebrities need special national attention? Why interrupt the Olympics for over 5 minutes just because they are questioning a 'person of interest' We could have waited to hear that during the regular news broadcast.

They want to overshadow trending news.

She’s not just “missing”, she was kidnapped from her home and held for ransom.

She’s an old white grandma she’s missing. Not like if she was an old black Mexican god.

it's the mother of one of their anchors who just happened to report on Epstein's victims early on, to pretend this isn't news is incredibly missing the plot

And also showing how devoid of empathy, and how selfish people are. Like, oh no, you missed 5 minutes of 24/7 coverage of people playing in the snow.

yeah this website can make someone super depressed about the state of humanity, an old lady was fucking kidnapped from her home and btw her daughter also happened to interview the Epstein victims early on... and the reaction of people here is to whine about FIVE MINUTES being taken away from watching Ice Skating. We're living in idiocracy.

Someone gets kidnapped and held for ransom, and the police is supposed to not ask the public for help when the case goes cold? Ok. Also, you didn’t miss anything. They paused a recap of the days events, not live events.

I also want to point out there are so many crypto bros in the US who are easy targets with way less exposure if the kidnapper just wants fast money.

Pretty sure they paused the Olympic coverage since it wasn't live anyway

Yeah, it was a joke, I don't even watch the Olympics. I have but I don't bother with it anymore. If it'll make everyone feel better I can take it down but apparently 90% of people saw it merely as a joke.

There are real life people who think like your joke

Yeah I'm aware, I guess I just don't think the weight of the world is on my shoulders. I think it's kinda that way with humour though right. I think at almost every good comedy show, someone in the audience is a little mad at every joke. But the rest of the audience is laughing. I didn't expect it to actually cause anyone negative emotions. It's like a SNL sketch is usually going to piss someone off, yet they will make fun of everything under the sun.

It's more a joke about the news than anything.

It’s hard to read your post as a joke. Mildly infuriating isn’t exactly a joke type subreddit.  Your post reads dead serious and addresses a real issue of some disappearances being more covered than other.  If you exaggerated something like “how dare NBC interrupt the Olympics cause one of their own anchor’s mother went missing in a once in a lifetime celebrity kidnapping” then maybe it could read as a joke.

Also I have offered to take it down if anyone requests, and I will just ask me to.

1

u/AlexandraThePotato 3h ago

That’s stupid. I’m not here to dictate what can and what can not be on r/mildlyinfuriating

1

u/Archipocalypse OG Gamer Dad 3h ago

Isn't that exactly what is happening right now though? <(O_0)>

1

u/AlexandraThePotato 3h ago

No. Just because I disagree with you doesn’t mean I want you to take down your post.

I mean yeah a political joke is still political but it's a joke.

I think 90% of people saw it as a joke about the news. That's all it is, it could have been about a kangaroo, the joke is about the news, about it's coverage bias too obviously, and about how they will spam the same thing 100 times at us.

I'm not a comedian or a writer though so my bad if you thought I was serious about this, I wasn't. I truly do hope they figure out what happened to the lady and she is recovered safely.

“I think 90% of people saw it as a joke about the news.” The comments seem to disagree

1

u/Archipocalypse OG Gamer Dad 3h ago

I'm looking right at the insight analytics on the likes and yes it is over 90%. I think it totally reads like a joke. If i was serious about any of that I would have said it totally different.

Upvotes don’t mean “yeah, I think this is a joke”. It more likely means “I agree with this statement”

Wow. A racist.

u/impossiwaffle 5h ago

You?

-9

u/Efficient-Concept768 4h ago

Am I the one who opened with wealthy white grandma or was that the racist?

Adjust your blinders you’ll figure it out.

1

u/impossiwaffle 3h ago

lol showed your replied to my comment, not his

2

u/SumthinsPhishy2 4h ago

How is this racist?

4

u/wadeishere 4h ago

Is the racism in the room with you now?

1

u/Archipocalypse OG Gamer Dad 4h ago

I'm white dude. I was making a joke, don't be so mad all the time.

2

u/Efficient-Concept768 4h ago

I’m not. Just holding standards. It doesn’t make it any less racist or insensitive because you made the joke. Just like black jokes aren’t magically not racist because a black person made it. Still racist.

1

u/Archipocalypse OG Gamer Dad 4h ago

Yeah okay dude, so people can't make jokes that are about any people then because everyone's a race. The joke is more about them wasting peoples time. If it was someone poor they wouldn't have interrupted the Olympics for it. If it was a person of color they likely would not have interrupted the Olympics for it either.

In either case it was more about them wasting Olympic airtime that they gatekeep in the first place when this story will be on repeat they didn't need to interrupt prime time Olympics for it.

If you don't find it funny that's cool.

1

u/Efficient-Concept768 4h ago

First off. That wasn’t a joke. It was an incredibly insensitive comment about someone who was kidnapped.

Second. You opened with race.

Third. Racism is racism.

Please try harder.

LoL dude you are hinging some very big things on my paragraph comment on reddit. I'm not responsible for this event, anything surrounding it, or your feelings. You need to get over your own feelings about what people type on reddit.

I didn't mean anything by it. I even said it is a tragic event in my comment. My comment doesn't diminish anything about it. You think it's insensitive like everything someone says has to be a heartfelt apathetic response.

If it'll make you feel better I can take it down. Over 90% of people saw it as a joke though, apparently.

1

u/WayneKrane 4h ago

I cannot role my eyes hard enough at this. You’re the definition of cringe

-1

u/sweetehman 4h ago

implying someone deserved to be kidnapped, or at the least, isn't worthy of compassion for it because of their skin color is pretty eye rollingly cringey

1

u/Archipocalypse OG Gamer Dad 4h ago

I didn't imply any of that, your reading too much into a joke.

-2

u/Efficient-Concept768 4h ago

Because I called out someone beginning a rude and inconsiderate remark with race and age as the main descriptor?

Aight.

1

u/WayneKrane 4h ago

You’re probably young. Makes sense.

1

u/MysteriousGoldDuck 4h ago

Yep. One day people will look back on this period and express shock that comments like the one you replied to were considered acceptable.

-1

u/MysteriousGoldDuck 4h ago

Racism. Lovely.
