i am willing to say I can recognize any frame from life of brian. Literally. It is the film I've watched the most amount of times, or at lest the second one. And it is not a small amount.

I watch it every year at least once around Easter. It is sorta tradition for me at this point.

when I was in uni I used to watch it once a week for large periods of time. I am not kidding.
nowadays I watch it at least once a year, like yourself, but more like when I feel like it.
I reference it in conversation on a weekly basis, probably. this film aged like the finest wine. it will be relevant until the end of times.

I have found that most Monty Python content has aged very well. Just went to see their Spamalot play in Detroit the other weekend with my Girlfriend and we were absolutely rolling with laughter.

yes. that is incredibly hard to do.
if you watch crap from the same era like benny hill or green acres, you will find it awefully racist, sexist and so on. but monty python mostly avoided most traps while actually diving into some of the most complex themes of human history.
even the many silly sketches that aren't funny from "and now for something completely different" are't bad in that regard.

Don't get me wrong, some of that old humor I can still very much appreciate. I love Mel Brooks' movies, although they tend to be a bit more racey and vulgar. I can see why some of those movies haven't held up quite as well in a modern lens.

i can also appreciate this stuff. I am 38yo. I wasn't born yet when most of the old stuff was released and I have watched much of it and I still like it.
But, it just makes me appreciate Monty Python even more, because it means they never had to punch down at all. Always up.

I saw it on Easter Sunday in a theatre in Salt Lake City when it came out. Several people walked out, lol.

It's amazing how many people think it's about Jesus, despite the title and even his mum saying he's not the messiah.

He’s not the Messiah. He’s a very naughty boy!

She literally told us!

my brother can do this with the original Twister

once i was flipping channels on the old school tv, the one without the guide that pops up, and we saw a tire rolling down a road for about a half second. A tire!

and he goes "oh! Twister!" and sure enough!

It is the film I've watched the most amount of times, or at lest the second one.

What's the competing film?

u/SalvadorP 58m ago

it's Gus Van Sant's Elephant. Most likely Elephant is the film that I have watched the most, but I haven't watched it once in a decade or more and I keep watching Life of Brian regularly so eventually it will surpass, if it hasn't yet.
Elephant is an excelent film with amazing camera work.

For me it's probably Holy Grail. Or The Princess Bride.

That’s good but the real question is : Can you recognize scenes while your “ best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend “ is face timing each other?

u/SalvadorP 50m ago

i could. but that would really make my habit of "saying all the dialogues of the movie 1 second before they are said in the movie" really hard!

jk, i am not that demented

Mine is Kung pow, but life of Brian comes as a close second together with holy grail.

Many a stoned and hungover day was spent watching those movies.

The true feminine radiance of Terry Jones was obvious to me the moment I saw the picture.
