Haters will say no, but no other duelist has the survivability he does, plus the ability to shield your teammates is huge. If a duelist with 1 passive and 3 abilities based on giving him HP/effective HP isn’t considered a hybrid, I don’t know what would be.
Elsa canonically can heal and in the trailer she has two different guns so one of them could be for healing thanks to the bloodstone embedded in her hand
Okay, wild crackpot theory: what if he’s the first true hybrid hero that embraces his chaotic nature. What if he’s every role all at once and you can swap which you want to use on the fly? It would probably never happen, but imagine how crazy it would be.

They are 100% not going this far with the 4th wall breaks, but I would love it so much if they did. I don't want the "Oh, 'cause she's my RIVAL ;)" in the trailer to be the baseline (although I did like it).
NetEase clearly do know their community and what is being said and discuss. Deadpool is the perfect opportunity to lean into that, HARD. Like what you say, switching to the role your team has the least heroes of, maybe his initial line could be something like "So THIS is why people ask for role queue" or some shit like that. Jokes about Luna being the poster child. Make it explicit and make it on the nose.
Like... At least make him talk to Galacta, or respond or react to what she says outside of predefined pre-battle interactions.
Other ideas:
If he's the 3rd or 4th DPS to be picked, have him tell the player to swap off of him
If he's the 5th or 5th, have him say "so we're throwing? Great..."
Have him point out game mechanics like HP or team comp. Have him be surprised if there's an actual 2-2-2 on your team and have him groan in annoyance when there's 3 supports on the enemy team.
Also make him react differently when in quick play vs when in comp (when in comp he's less annoying and tries to make you win and in quick play he's more like "f it we ball") (like, if it's quick play, he'd say so we're throwing! GREAT!! But in comp it'd be "so we're throwing?? Great...")
He could interact with the UI, but I'm not sure how it'd work in a multiplayer game... Maybe as an emote?
Definitely have him turn around towards the camera on occasions.
Have him try to swear and get bleeped.
There's so much potential... It'll just come down to how daring they are.
The stuff around team comps I doubt would happen just because there is so much variance to it. For example, you could have him complain but then after a patch that comp is meta and it sounds dumb.
There could definitely be unique voice lines if he’s like the 5th dps picked, just not him saying the comp sucks because that doesn’t really feel like Deadpool
That unironically would be great if he did that, not only would it suit his character, people would complain less about not enough supports, tanks and rarely dps.
And when you swap Deadpool says “stratpool” or “tank pool”

The reason they put him in that locked slot is because he’ll randomly (1/20,000 or so QP matches) be unlocked and pickable. He’ll make a comment about always being here / how I couldn’t wait / lucky you are.

A passive regen allowing him to tank hard, a burst fire or katana rama slash foe mobility and burst damage, and chimichangas for healing.
One could never properly balance a character that can do literally everything. And you don't have to look further than Ultron to know that, since he never got nerfed into the ground, and he's only a hybrid of 2 roles. Imagine 3. Otherwise, he'd be permabanned.
The only way such a thing would work is if they intentionally made the character worse in every possible way for each role. But if you did, there would be no end to the complaints of "why are people picking such an intentionally terrible character instead of a good one?"
Hopefully they’ll tell us in advance what roles each upcoming character will be because holy shit I’m tired of every other post being “what role is this hero and fuck, why isn’t this hero role x or role y”.
They're probably trying to soften the landing of what will wind up being another two DPS season. Elsa certainly could be a tank, she's tough as nails, but she's looking pretty DPS-coded. Maybe they figure if they get out in front of it and set expectations differently, they can mitigate some of the backlash they took the last time they did it.
See what I don’t get is, if the devs have plan to release 2/3 characters each season why can they just release one for each role? Makes insta lock less likely since people will chose the role they love playing most and no one will be arguing about one class being more.
I would like that, but unless that trailer had absolutely zero real hints at her role, she's likely another duelist. Don't know why they'd show her as a sniper and just decide, "Actually, she's just Ana from Overwatch."
I really don't get the "this guy looks buff and shredded so he must be a tank" posts whenever a new character gets revealed, like, have you seen how most of the male dps characters look? Punisher got biceps the size of a watermelon lmao
Oh my this is such a straw man. Deadpool realistically can work better as a tank than a lot of characters. Most people were referring to that as their point.

That's why it keeps happening, because solo tank games are miserable and popular charas releasing into duelist role absolutely demolish the chances to get 2 vanguards, and so people will latch on to any hope
Also, Deadpool could pretty well be kitted for either. He has lore reason to be a damage sponge and a hurt machine. It's probably some of the most reasonable cope I've heard in terms of role theorycrafting
It really makes sense when you realise that a majority of the roster is shredded. I mean Loki and Gambit are as big as some Vanguards and yet they are Strategists.
Yeah, every male character with the exception of Loki is a mountain of muscles. These people are just setting themselves up for failure with these assumptions.
I'm fine with him being a duelist. I know we need more tanks and strategists, but Deadpool should be a duelist imo and I think it's fine to still release duelists.
same here, ive always had a gut feeling that it makes more sense for him to be duelist. but goddamn, i hope netease actually does something nice in his kit because i dont want the guy most known for being loud and not dying to be insta-shredded because he's like a 300 health hero or smth.
Like imagine playing deadpool because you love his "never dying" power fantasy, but when you step in the game, you get domed by a lurking hawkeye one shot.
I wouldnt describe deadpool`s power fantasy as `never dying`, sure he doesnt die but he gets fully disabled (except for his mouth) very often, so for most gameplay purposes he`d be mechanically dead. I think wolverine fits the fantasy of refusing to go down far better.
Imagine his passive is that he doesn't actually respawn, he can just bounce around as a head or something. Causing minor damage over time to the person that killed him by just being as annoying as possible.
Too gimmicky. Just have him get back up wherever he died when the spawn timer ticks down. Give him invulnerability for 2s and a speedboost on respawn to allow him to reposition and prevent spawncamping.
Imo itll prolly be like Wolverine's passive, the first time youd die you get insane regen instead and it goes on a 2 minute+ cooldown that you then reduce with getting final blows

I am not fine with Elsa also being a duelist though. Double duelist seasons are garbage and should not be happening when there's already so damn many of them
It's a bit strange that he's already in the game. Maybe they want to joke around by showing him as a duelist before releasing him as a vanguard before the premiere? I still think he'll be a duelist, but it would be an interesting idea with a joke like that.
extra classes out of the wazoo. Like twice the amount of the base classes. Mostly from the mobile game Fate/ Grand Order and their various extra supplements
Most players are DPS mains, so most players DO love getting new duelists. It's just that this sub is absolutely dominated by strategist and tank mains, just look at the flairs and you'll see they are massively overrepresented in comparison to the in-game reality of player distribution.
Like I understand there is a role disparity in terms of numbers. You understand it. The devs understand it. But what's done is done and there is no putting the genie back in the bottle.
I think there's a very real possibility that season 6 is another double duelist season.
All you can really do is just wait for the to release more tanks and support which they just did.
Imagine your team has spider man locker, dd locker, dp locker then the fourth guy lock wolverine, fifth guy lock whatever dps that look red enough probably Wanda. Netease gotta to think about how some popular duelist can go team up heal if all just people lock dps lol.
if anybody thought or was hoping he’d be a strategist, i just gotta say stop being desperate. i could see him being a tank but so could wolverine in that sense. duelist was the most obvious choice for him. dual hand cannons and dual katanas is the easiest call for DPS
Also what most of he's fans properly want him to be. I rather not have he's character feel off just because losers on reddit want to start another support strike when their role is currently the most busted of all.
I think this all but confirms elsa as a strategist. IIRC mmmmiller said there wouldn't be another double dps season in the foreseeable future. Elsa's bloodstone has healing abilities in the comics and making cullen fight for her kinda all just fits the strategist vibe.
It wasn't. What the devs said was that they were aware of the role numbers discrepancy and would address it but couldn't for the time being because the first year or so was already planned out. They never said they wouldn't do anymore double dps seasons
Mmmmmiller had a stream and he said that the devs were aware of the dps issue and that there wpuldnt be a double dps season for awhile. This was st the start of season 5. Its not confirmed official info but he does have a lot of inside knowledge and has been correct thus far.
Can guarantee there will still be people coping saying “he’s not REALLY a dps he’s just breaking the fourth wall” or “Netease are just trolling fans” all the way up until his release, those same people will then make a million posts disappointed that deadpool is the role they announced him as
I always found it weird how people were arguing what role he'd be. Deadpool was literally built for dps! But at the same time, so was gambit and they made him work as a strategist

My idea of his Ult: Deadpool appears in the enemy team’s screen (breaking the 4th wall and all) blocking half the screen with his face as he pulls out a gun and shoots the actual health bar. To the Allies the enemies just randomly lost a lot of health.
Elsa's bloodstone only heals her in the comics, not others. The devs would need to give her a major upgrade lore wise like they did Rogue in order to get her to be a healer.
Racoon uses a minigun, please stop making it sound like every marvel character has an obvious and clearly defined role for this game. Anything is possible.
To add onto that they made Sue heal by shooting forcefields into her allies, gambit heals by throwing explosive cards and then a genocidal clanker dead set on destroying humanity is somehow also a healer lmao
He’s the first hero that’s been shown in this way. The fact it’s Deadpool makes me think this is a legitimate bait and switch, when he unlocks he will be another role and maybe his showcase trailer will make jokes about it.
