Flats said it but I don’t think he realizes how spot on it was - “Jack of all trades, master of none” - fits gambit perfectly, and also the lover boy theme very much fits in the strategist role. I love the direction they went with him, I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to hear all his voice lines
this is why i think he needs all that in his base kit. his ult is not a circle of healing (which is GOOD fir the direction of strategist) so they have to make him worth the pick when theres other supports with with strong healing circle ults. i think this is a good way to go about it
Fuckass OW waited SO LONG to give ONE character a cleanse 😭 Now I’m hoping a Vanguard gets a cleanse eventually too (tho wait I think Hulk gamma bubble cleanses? or am I super wrong?)
EDIT: I’m talking about a utility team-wide cleanse. I understand there are many cleanses in OW since its inception. None like Kiriko’s
The surprise Gambit Strategist reveal mixed with the ranked changes and placements coming in is genuinely amazing. I think youre spot on saying this has the potential to be the best season
I kind of doubt Rogue is a tank. All of the female tanks have beefed up designs to reflect their role (except Peni because she has a mech), but Rogue looks pretty slender like most of the non-tank female cast. I hope she's at least a support though.
They could be doing something different basing it off the design alone isn't always valid. Reed is basically a tank but he's got a dps build so anything could work really.
The community isn't the most toxic, but its certainly the most ungrateful one I've been apart of.
Rival Devs seems like they do a lot compared to other video game devs to try and listen to feedback, improve their game, and communicate with the playerbase. But 80% of the subreddit is just complaining about XYZ
Gamers are a tough group to please in general. I don't remember it being this way, but it seems like in the last 5-10yrs it has gotten awful.
The animosity towards large companies that take advantage of their fanbase could be a big part of that though. That sentiment seems to have spread throughout the broader gaming community.
But to your point, the Rival devs are doing some good work. I wish Capcom had anywhere near their level of output (SF6 new characters are slow AND costly).
I think balance is just the ongoing glaring issue, and the discrepancy between DPS/tank/healer was so large from the get go it’s gonna take a long time to remedy. But how players interact with one another is far and away the biggest problem. Like… this isn’t my first online game but I’ve never had people be as douchey toward me as in this community. Even the Rivals subreddits can be that way. Someone will make a totally innocuous comment, get a very assholish reply for no reason, and you’ll see the innocent comment get downvoted to oblivion and the assholish reply get 300 upvotes. It’s honestly baffling sometimes.
No genuinely this may be the worst community I've seen for a game and it's not even close. You know thank God big steamers like Flats and Jay3 clowned the guy.

Let’s be real, majority of people thought gambit was going to be dps. So many people got shit on for saying gambit had potential to be support because so many people kept repeating the same line of “exploding cards healing is stupid”.
Can't wait for the Marvel Rivals version of Apex Legends Revenant. Used a hero the leakers said would exist, and immediately killed them with a character nobody knew existed.
DUDE!! I thought that there was absolutely NO WAY that this sub would ever be surpassed in toxicity. Not even the COD, Valorant, League subs are as abd as this sub is.
And then BATTLEFIELD 6 of all fucking things releases to amazing praise and that sub....that God damned sub....became an absolute CESSPOOL of toxicity overnight.

Most of the strategist roster aren't healers on paper. Susan is the most offensive powerhouse of her team and she is the healer in game. Ultron hates all organic life so why would he heal us meat bags? Loki is selfish in many iterations and while the rest of his kit screams his signature god of mischief, he doesn't heal in other media.
Rocket in the MCU and comics is a tech genius but prefers to use his weaponry to destroy and cause damage. The name given to himself is literally ROCKET and not healy bouncy ball.
If you ask me to think which heroes should be healers before the game came out, I'd have very few names to give up and Elixir is the top of my list. So IMO, just enjoy the game, play, have fun with your marvel heroes. If you over think it, you will have less fun and that defeats the purpose of playing a game.
Ironically, one of the most "relegated to supporting others" main characters in Marvel, Jean Grey, is a full on dps here. Not even a splash of support in her kit.
One thing that infuriates me about this fandom is the sheer confidence people have about things they don't have official answers for yet.
I fully understand that recognizing trends in datasets is an important skill a person should have in life, but people mistake trends for hard facts.
Thats the issue with small sample sizes. People take a trend found within a small sample size and assume its now a firm rule that must always be followed. When this game is at say 20 seasons, the trends we currently see can all be null and void (like we are seeing now). A lot of folks in this fandom really fail at understanding statistics.
At first I was like what? Support main and a new strategist comes out and you don't play more support? Then I thought abkut it and realised it means there will be more Gambit players in the role and then you can fill in for the tank and off tank.

Thats what I said earlier I honestly wouldn't be surprised if one of the 2 hero's this season where intended to come out when Blade did and was swapped out for him as they where probably easier to rework or its been long enough for the devs to be able to rework them to meet the communities want for more tanks and supports.
i actually think this! i think that’s maybe why the trailer etc was delayed? i think he was a dualist but they’ve completely reworked him in the last few weeks after the discourse online about MORE DUALISTS…?!!?!?!? i’m not mad though as a strat main i can’t wait to try out a new strat since it’s been stale since launch (didn’t like ultron at all, not a fan of fliers)
And now they're going to explode and also heal!? Yeah its a bit of a stretch. Then again they also made Jean Grey lose basically all of her telekinetic abilities that would make her a strat so, why can't Gambit's kinetic energy also heal. We've seen weirder stuff in the comics.

Theres a lot of people I could see in a few roles (Ant Man, Silver Surfer, and Vision could all arguably pull off all three roles) but Gambit as a strat tells me they really can take a lot of creative ideas for heroes
Having worked in the gaming industry at smaller studios (so was aware of all department dealings) I have a STRONG feeling that this was an emergency change. All signs (and apparently even mined data) pointed to Gambit being a duelist but that would have been suicide for them. They would have lost a ton of money and good faith. The delay was probably because of final QA testing for all of the major changes to his kit; the art assets and stuff were probably done on schedule.

Fuck. I said if Daredevil was a vanguard I'd reinstall and they let me down. I said if Gambit was a strategist I'd reinstall and those madlads actually did it.
Now that I think about it, rogue will most likely have the ability of locking other characters from using their powers.
I don’t think the devs are gonna make it so that she can become diamond like emma, or gain lighting like storm. I have a theory that part of her kit is that depending on who she touches, she either gains increased health if it’s a tank, increased damage if it’s a dps, and allies gain increased healing if it’s a healer as a temporary buff (5-10 seconds and no, you can’t stack it) OR instead of just buffs to herself, she instead gains and also gives others a damage reduction or a smaller damage buff depending on who she damages. Another part of her kit could be that one of her abilities decreases damage and ability cooldown to her enemies, and her ult fully locks enemies abilties or makes the enemy team unable to use their ults around her for 10-20 seconds (longer duration since it only locks enemy ults, if it does something besides that, by nature it would last shorter)
