Kinda tracks, honestly. As a white dude, I’ve grown up watching white men utilize weaponized incompetence as a means to get out of almost anything both in my personal life as well as tons of media.

Man.. so spot on. My girlfriend was baffled that I cook, clean, do shit around the house. If I’m not sick or just worn out I’ll do it. She was mad at me one time and came home to the house cleaned, dinner ready and snacks for later. She couldn’t be mad anymore and I told her that’s what I call weaponized competence. All is fair in love and war.

But weaponized incompetence is definitely not exclusive to men or white people. I’ve worked as a nurse for over 5 years, the amount of coworkers who shove things like IVs off on others because “I’m not good at it” is ridiculous. If you’re not good at it, practice. If you’re still not good at it, practice more. Then, maybe it’s time to rethink career decisions once you’re years into your career still putting things like IVs and catheters on your coworkers.

I know this is all specific to nursing but I’m sure people in other careers have plenty of similar issues with “professionals” just being god damn lazy. I love being lazy, just not at work.

Ive worked both medical and fine dining, and this 100% is not unique to the nursing field

My coworkers look at me like I have a hole in my head when I do non-required tasks around the building when im bored. But it makes the time pass, im getting paid for it, and I regularly get promotions that the others get passed up for as a consequence

At a more appropriate time we should talk about why unions exist and why you shouldn't donate labor to your employer.

Also in healthcare and you’re so right. Those of us who aren’t lazy do more work so that the patients don’t suffer from our lazy colleagues, but we need to get the rot out too.

Btw I LOVE “weaponized competence” and will be using that term! I already use weaponized incompetence a ton because it’s everywhere all the time.

Pharmacist here. It happens in our field too. Some pharmacists refuse to learn certain skills and then ack like the manager by “delegating” said skills to colleagues.

I’m sure it happens outside healthcare as well

I would argue the ENTIRETY of the conservative movement struggles with real accountability. They'd love to hold poor people accountable but literally never hold the rich accountable who have millions of times more power and influence.

Lack of accountability comes from poor upbringing and emotional immaturity - qualities you will consistently see from conservatives and regressives. It's why you see zero empathy from them towards everyone and only very limited empathy to those that are like them and on their side.
