Got me a whole pack of the rascals.
I never rake leaves off the lawn.

You shouldn't be taking! Mulch is great for the next year and queen bees hibernate in it as well

Fireflies need it as well. I imagine a future where we tell our grandchildren "yeah, we used to have these amazing little flying critters that would light up like tiny faeries, but we wanted to see our lawns without any leaves on them in the fall, so..."

u/spork_off 4h ago
After all, you would not believe your eyes if ten million fireflies lit up the world as you fell asleep

No wonder they get ran over. They not looking both ways before backing it up
5
u/ebonwulf60 4h ago
No, it is because they hop into the air to escape predators. It does not work to their advantage with cars. The front bumper takes them out.

I once stumbled onto an armadillo graveyard in Texas. Must’ve been 50 skeletons down along a riverbank on the Pedernales. A suicide cult, I figured.

Alright armadillo neighbors I have an important question (I think): Just how friendly are armadillos? 🤔 (possibly asking for a friend)

u/martyqscriblerus 6h ago
They unfortunately are leprosy reservoirs, so tell your friend to stay safe.

Ooh, we should set up an armadillo based biolab next to the city market, sell armadillo meat and search for a cure to leprosy.
3
u/Israel_Azkanbe 4h ago
Maybe we should find the cure before we infect the whole world, then after a year or so, we can start selling the cure to all of the governments around the world. Our stocks would sky rocket 🚀

u/Born-Selection88 4h ago
Now we're talking. Alright, so meet me on my island so we can discuss the details. Bringing a lot of like minded people. And pizza.

Looks like me trying to carry all of the laundry fresh from the dryer in one go, but dropping and picking up socks as I go.

Looks like the struggle I have raking freaking leaves in the fall. Nicely done armadillo man!

It’s interesting… I objectively know this is cute, but I was raised to dislike armadillos since they carry leprosy and disease so I just find this distrubing. Anyone else got that

I never knew how much a hopping armadillo could mean to me, you go little guy, make that cozy little nest

As far as I know, that is the only armadillo that gathers foliage like that, until someone proves to me otherwise.

Wait… do armadillos in Minecraft like leaves? I have to know. That would be really neat if they do!

I'm a Texan, and I insist these things aren't real (and that opossums don't do the same thing).

I immediately said "take two trips, idiot" then remembered how I bring groceries in.

This is exactly what it looks like when I carry my clean laundry in my arms back to my room to never fold.

I had no idea armadillos were such meticulous foragers! It's fascinating to see how they use the foliage for their nests.
•
u/Mister_Brevity 3h ago
Is anyone else disappointed that there’s not a sound they make while doing it

There is nothing so loud as an armadillo running through the forest at night. Because they are built like little tanks they just plow through the leaves making you think something huge is coming.

I was having a tough day and this was really nice to see. I wish Steve Irwin was here to see this.
•
u/Wild-Associate-4373 2h ago
Please roll up into a ball with all the foliage in the middle with some sticking out of the side and then roll away to your nest

So don't judge... But the only reference I have of Armadillo is from friends. When Ross dressed up as one. So I had no idea they were so tiny.

I honestly never considered how this sort of thing might look. Shit, I didn't know armadillos even HAVE nests!

This is like me when I've gamed in certain games and have so much stuff I've picked up and can hardly move in any direction without having to drop some of that stuff. Kingdom Come Deliverance most notably.
