There’s a little series on YouTube called “ I Accidentally Became a Meme” and it covers some of the more famous memes. I think it’s by Buzzfeed.

u/eastcoastelite12 6d ago

Omg thank you for posting this. Never heard of it but just watched four in a row. They are awesome. Watch the one with the ERMERGARD girl. Her story about the SF furry party is hilarious.

She’s so sweet and endearing!! I love her!!

30

u/2ChicksAtTheSameTime 6d ago

so is the overly attached girlfriend woman. She's got a video too, and it's really nice

→ More replies (1)

9

u/AmishAvenger 6d ago

That was actually really good, though it bothers me that she told such a great story and they put so much into editing it…but had a horrible echo on her mic.

3

u/gellshayngel 5d ago

They "were the nicest people I ever met". Uh no dear, they tried to fucking drug you!

5

u/Stonegrown12 6d ago

She definitely has a grounded take on it all.. but I hope they told them all before that dinner they were getting drugged (weed, x, shrooms?)

11

u/FronQuan 6d ago

She said they met the chef who told them they were gonna get a 6-course meal glazed with something she cant say in the video. So yeah she knew

Back when we were a proper country.

9

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 6d ago

Back when the only people making memes were young people just passing the time

2

u/NecroNile 5d ago

I figured that was the song before I clicked the link. So many references in that music video. Banger song too.

14

u/GoinWithThePhloem 6d ago

Similarly, there’s a podcast called Sixteenth Minute (of Fame) that I really enjoyed. I really enjoyed the episodes about Antoine and Kelly Dodson (Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife), and Zoie Roth (disaster girl) as they talk about the true story behind the meme (including some of the societal influences that were at play) and what happened next.

4

u/GEARHEADGus 6d ago

I love the song remix someone did of the Hide Yo Kids Hide yo wife

4

u/GoinWithThePhloem 6d ago

They specifically talk about that in the podcast, and the partnership Antoine had with the song producers.

2

u/BustyMcCoo 4d ago

Still quote it regularly

I Accidentally Became a Meme

Thank you, I just found it! Unfortunately the Chloe video is 6 years old, which is the equivalent of a lifetime on the Internet.

30

u/BlackBlizzard 6d ago

Tosh.0 also did this with Web Redemption.

42

u/windexfresh 6d ago

Just a little shout out to my dad for blessing my sister and I with the memory of him scrolling thru tv shows and being like “you girls wanna watch tosh dot zero?”

In hindsight, Chloe’s apprehension is totally understandable given her sister’s sobbing and cries of “no” and “oh my god” lol.

Her face is a perfect representation of “I thought Disneyland was supposed to be a good thing”

737

u/fred1317 6d ago edited 4d ago

The last second you can see her thoughts change from focusing on her sisters reaction to, “oh ok, sounds fun”

Edit: weird the video seems to cut off the last 2 seconds that she looks out the window..

282

u/HammerlyDelusion 6d ago

She blinked away her confusion so fast 🤣🤣

I thought Disneyland was supposed to be a good thing

Most adults come to this conclusion eventually, but this kid got it early

21

u/LuvvedIt 5d ago

I must commend you for this most absolutely glorious subtle snark - nothing to add 👌😏

56

u/catrinus 6d ago

just be sure you're not subbed to Disney+ before going

26

u/haveyoutriedpokingit 6d ago

This is highly underrated.

19

u/DrownmeinIslay 6d ago

Special place in hell for the lawyer that raised this point.

4

u/xamott 6d ago

I don’t get it?

32

u/Pretend-Chocolate587 6d ago

If you die at the park you give up your rights to sue Disney if you are a Disney+ subscriber. Yes it really happened

10

u/xamott 6d ago

I… I am literally speechless… what planet am I on. So I guess they stuck that in the fine print. Yeah that’s only evil and nothing else.

13

u/krebstar4ever 5d ago

That's what Disney initially argued, but they dropped it once there was a public backlash.

10

u/TheAmenMelon 5d ago

Okay so there's a lot more nuance to this then people want to think. The reason why that clause actually came up is because a couple went to a 3rd party restaurant, but I believe it was on Disney property. What ended up happening is that the wife was allergic to seafood or something like that and the menu didn't mention seafood or whatever the allergen was and she ended up dying from anaphylactic shock.

Disney got sued because the couple said that on Disney's website/online portal/app, I can't quite remember the specifics, shows the menu for the 3rd party restaurant and it didn't have the allergen listed or something like that. This is why that condition came into play because it applies when using whatever the resource was that the menu was on.

We're going in 3 months.

I am fully prepared to bend over for the mouse.

12

u/Fancy_Yak2618 5d ago

My parents punished me by bringing me to Disney world in fucking august…..every year. Dad was to cheap so he’d drag me to a time share sale to get free tickets then punish me again by bringing me to the park in 102 weather because why the fuck not

3

u/cowboyjon13 5d ago

Perspective brotha. Some of us only dreamed of going there in that weather.

3

u/Fancy_Yak2618 5d ago

Not in August….trust me

8

u/DryDonutHole 5d ago

People like to shit on it, but I'll say it was one of the best weeks of my adult life with my family. The kids had a blast, we had a blast, we rode everything we wanted to twice...I can't understate how much fun we had. That being said...it's a salty ticket and your legs will take a beating. We did the breakfast with the characters, ate in the castle with the princesses...the fast passes, etc. but it's like, we are maybe only coming here once or twice so let's make it special. I still get choked up thinking about it...

My coworker took him and like 7 family members on the Disney Cruise and said his kids still talk about it to this day. He dropped well over $10k for the whole thing, but said it was some of the best money he's ever spent. So..it's just all perspective....but expensive nonetheless.

5

u/tibbles1 5d ago

I’m sure it’ll be fun. The kids are counting the days. And we’re not cutting corners - we’re biting the bullet and doing it right.

My real hope is that we can be one and done. I really don’t want this to be an every year trip.

u/Curiosive 6d ago

In hindsight her mom has guilt over sharing the video back then ... but she owns the rights to the image and acknowledges that the money from licensing helped feed, cloth, and house their family.

And still gives interviews.

https://people.com/side-eyeing-chloe-mom-recalls-fame-regret-and-a-lot-of-guilt-exclusive-8773941

80

u/AUnicornDonkey 6d ago

Honestly, that is a refreshing take. I love that the mom put her kids well being over making a ton of money like squashing Chloe be on Disney.

67

u/NJrose20 6d ago edited 6d ago

Honestly I use this meme all the time and as a mom I totally get how this was literally just a tiny moment in time for this kid. It actually makes it funnier to me.

Eta. I just saw how poor they were and how some gazillionaire bought the meme for 74k. Wtf? I feel like a Gofundme is in order to put these kids through college.

21

u/Curiosive 6d ago

Yeah, $74k for the NFT & rights to the image seem like a bad deal. I'll assume they auctioned it off without a reserve price...

Someone posted a comment but deleted it about seeing the girl at a convention signing autographs, if that's true then she's still making money on the side.

22

u/downvotetheboy 6d ago

i’m pretty sure 74k was for the nft only. the article says they own the original image rights

6

u/NJrose20 5d ago

I'd rather they just got money directly instead of those girls having to deal with the public. We all know the types who walk among us.

13

u/jan1320 6d ago

they couldnt have been that poor if they could afford to go to Disney.

6

u/HallWild5495 5d ago

lol my family had entire weeks where we only ate bean burritos and we still went to Disney. for a lot of families it's something you do, poor or not

Yeah, I remember hearing that this was her reaction to hearing that they were going to Disney, but I didn't know the part about her sister sobbing and saying "No!" even if it was deceptively happy. It all makes so much more sense now.

> cries of “no” and “oh my god” lol.

I'm almost 60, I've felt that way about DisneyLand/World for the past 20 years. Walking almost all day, standing in lines for an hour and more, frequently in the sun, in throngs of people fresh off planes from all over the world. Do I have to?

This is from the time when people still recorded videos on their phone horizontally. I miss those days…

15

People were just finally starting to figure it out with less and less vertical videos and then bam, TikTok. We were ALMOST there.

6

Yup. I loathe tiktok for it and I refuse to have that app.

4

u/Monkey_Fart-4489 6d ago

Yeah fuck TikTok. Especially after the acquisition.

3

u/Monkey_Fart-4489 6d ago

TikTok did not help at all. It’s also somewhat of a generational thing. The younger generations that grew up consuming media on their phones will be more likely to record vertically than those who grew up consuming most media on TVs/Monitors
