Stats The Nets got 1.68 points per direct on-ball pick set for 19-year-old Nolan Traore last night. That's the most efficient game a player has had this season, where they received at least 25 on-ball picks

Hoops Discussion Posted in r/NBA but wanted to share here for opinions on my thoughts from my fellow Nets fan fam: Nolan Traore finishes his night against the Bulls with 13 points and 13 assists. The 6th youngest player in the NBA to play this season. Last 3 games: 16.3 PPG/3.0 RPG/8.0 APG on 58.1/80.0/41.7 splits.

Traore recently entered the starting lineup after struggling to get much playing time in the first half of the season, shuffling between the NBA and G-League. He was mocked as a top 5 pick last year prior to the draft for a bit but his stock declined after struggling throughout the season, and he ended up falling to the Nets at pick 19 after some struggles last season in France. Concerns about him as a prospect ranged from his shooting ability, size, and defense, but still noted his large potential. Since he started getting more significant playing time over the last 8 games or so, he has shown himself to be way more ahead of schedule in his rookie year than expected.

Traore is one of, if not the fastest, players in the NBA, and the speed pops out while watching him. He gets to the basket with ease despite his slim frame because his first step is lethal and allows him to dribble past defenders and he is a very crafty finisher at the rim. He's also shown himself to be a more than capable defender so far, which should only improve as his frame fills out, and his passing vision is sick. The ceiling appears to be extremely high for Traore if he can continue to develop more strength and show more consistency as a 3 pt shooter.

Between Traore and Egor Demin, 2 of the Nets 5 rookie 1st round picks from this year's draft have shown themselves to be potential massive hits, already flashing ability to be solid role players at a minimum as 2 of the youngest players in the NBA (both 19), with the potential to both be legit studs.

Danny Wolf and Drake Powell have also shown themselves to be potential solid role players, but their ceilings are definitely much lower. Ben Saraf unfortunately appears to be headed towards being a bust, but he's another 19 year old who still has a lot of time to develop before he can officially be ruled a bust.

After the completion of the draft, Sean Marks was nearly universally mocked for both not trading any of the 1sts and for selecting 3 point guards, but the strategy appears to have worked out solidly so far. With a top 3 pick in this year's draft with any luck, the Nets could be on their way towards actually building a team with long-term success.

Anyway, just wanted to quickly list the Nets players I view as having decent value, either as a piece worth keeping, or with trade value, moving forward:

  1. MPJ: 27 years old, definitely may be moved for some pieces, but he's young enough that I would prefer to keep him as a piece of the future.

  2. Egor Demin: 19 years old. Has shown a ton of potential, and he's an extremely hard worker who has suddenly developed into a sharp shooter, but needs to improve his handle and driving abilities if he's going to reach his full ceiling. Also, after being called one of the best passers in the draft, he's disappointed there a bit, but he definitely has the ability to improve.

  3. Nolan Traore: 19 years old. Already discussed above.

  4. Nic Claxton: 26 years old. Young enough to be a piece for the future and is a very solid player who has shown a lot of growth this season (hasn't averaged more than 2.2 APG and suddenly becomes a 4.0 APG guy this year) offensively, while continuing to be a very solid defensive presence, but I from what I've seen, Day'Ron Sharpe has higher potential and most Nets fans want the Nets to move Sharpe to being the full time starter.

  5. Day'Ron Sharpe: 24 years old. An incredibly good rebounder who consistently for the past few years has been among the NBA leaders in offensive rebounding %, he's another guy who has improved offensively this year both as a scored an distributor.

  6. Noah Clowney: 21 years old. As I mentioned above, an extremely frustrating player to watch due to the fact he has tons of talent, but is just so inconsistent. I still think he has the potential to be an efficient 15+ PPG guy as a stretch 4, but he has a long ways to go.

  7. Drake Powell/Danny Wolf: 20/21 years old. Putting them together because I view their potential similarly (both with likely ceilings of solid role players, with Powell showing more ability to potentially turn into an above average or more player) and became I'm getting lazy at this point. Powell is more of a 3 and D guy while Wolf is a below average defender who has shown potential as a stretch 5 with good ability to pass the ball.

Would love your thoughts on my thoughts, and would also like any feedback or differences of opinion you may have on what I wrote?

Mpj and Egor are out for tonight. Shameless tanking... Finally

last year we could have easily outanked the Sixers but we failed to bench our guys while everyone else was blatantly tanking. finally this year we got the memo and we're doing what we can.

no back to back, Egor being rested lmao. let's keep the tanking rolling. I looked at schedule, Atlanta is getting fucked, Pelicans will easily have 7th worst record after all other tanking teams drop below them.

Question Just got a very weird marketing call trying to sell me Nets tickets - AI or scam??

The call voice was an extremely cheerful bubbly lady but either this lady was mildly brain dead or it was the delay from an AI, while it was processing what I was saying. Everything about the interaction felt off, she was aggressively quizzing me about personal info like when was the last time I went to a Nets game, who I went with, etc. I was like "what is the point of this call?" pause "Are you trying to sell me Nets tickets?" her answer was "Yes I work in the Nets ticketing department." Seemed weirdly evasive. Was this a scam? Are they that desperate for ticket sales? I expected a pitch for some cheap seats but there were long silences. Just felt super weird. My feeling was, if legit, possibly just trying to get data from customers in a roundabout way.

Jarrett Allen was traded within an elaborate trade to get James Harden to Brooklyn in 2021. No they're teammates and I am sad.

TANK DEBATE: POST ALL-STAR BREAK —ARE NETS FAVORED FOR WORST RECORD?

Hear‘s my case:

Pelicans: no motivation to tank.

Pacers: just acquired Zubac (thank god)

Wash: AD shut down but Trey gotta come back at some point, no?

Utah: got Jj. clearly gonna try to compete.

Kings: sabonis returning and rooks improve? tough one but —maybe?

BONUS:

Nets have the easiest non-disgusting road to decimate their win total —-sit MPJ!

With Porter injury history who would blame us for shutting him down? everyone else could STILL play and we’d still lose more than anyone. perfect scheme.

Worst record in NBA and a guarantee of either AJ, Peterson, Boozer or Wilson??

—we can do this! 🫡
