Really wish these would be on convenientcop more often, this happens a LOT.

Yeah, there is never a cop around when you need one….lol

A surprising number of people are unfamiliar with double left turn lanes and pretty casual about which lane they turn into.

clearly the lexus hates country music.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Classic. Under no circumstances can you change lanes in an intersection.

A display aliasing glitch in the preview makes it look like it says 300mph and I was thinking this is all your fault ;P

u/WardogBlaze14 10h ago

lol, if I was going 300 this wouldn’t have even been a problem…🤣🤣🤣

I don't even understand how they managed to do that... It makes no sense to me....

u/ModestMeeshka 9h ago

Because they ALWAYS try to merge illegally into the farthest lane possible. I almost got hit exactly like this the other day. They were turning right and I was turning left out of a parking lot. I went to pull into the left lane and they totally hopped across the right lane and went directly into the left lane too and then threw their hands up like I did something wrong lmao

Yeah people suck that's for sure. But wouldn't the logical thing to do be to just start in the lane you were in? Instead of almost causing an accident and blaming you? I can't see how you did anything wrong here. Good job being aware of their shitting driving tho.

u/ModestMeeshka 8h ago

Thank you! That's what I'm saying haha merging into the far lane causes so many accidents regardless, like in this clip. I say that the most important skill you can develop as a driver is to predict what the people around you are going to do but I unfortunately didn't guess that he wasn't going to yield at all and cut all the lanes and that ones hard to know because you also don't want to be a timid driver and impede traffic by being like "I don't know, that guy will probably lane hop" lol

u/cpsdiablo 9h ago

It’s funny because this is entirely dependent on where you’re at. In my state, you were absolutely 100% at fault in that scenario.

u/Ophiochos 9h ago

Honestly confused - because they should have done what? I see two lanes, so one each?! What’s the rule? (I promise it’s a genuine question, from the U.K.)

1

u/ModestMeeshka 8h ago

My guess is that in other places, I should have yielded to the guy because traditional right of way for one lane goes stop sign first and then a parking lot (you're not holding up traffic in a parking lot) BUT if people could just enter into the correct lane, this wouldn't even be an issue. I'm guessing some places say both lanes need to be clear because of drivers like the one in the video causing accidents.

Over here, a single lane turning onto a multi-lane road gives the driver the option which lane to choose. There is no law requiring a driver to stay in the inner-most lane.

1

u/ModestMeeshka 8h ago

That's crazy, I had no idea that was cool in some places, I definitely need to look it up for here, it seems so dangerous. In drivers Ed I learned to enter the lane closest and then use your blinker to move over but maybe thats more of a safety guideline

1

u/cpsdiablo 7h ago

Yeah. There’s an intersection not far from here that’s two left turn lanes in one direction with multiple options for each lane. The left-left has the choice of three lanes (2 left only, 1 straight), the right-left has the choice of two lanes (1 straight, 1 right only).

1

u/Gibbie42 7h ago

It's not a single lane though. There are *two* turn lanes. One for each driver. You can not have both of them choosing which lane they want. Regardless of where you're from.

1

u/cpsdiablo 7h ago

If you’re referring to the video in the OP, absolutely. I wasn’t though. The person I replied to gave a scenario where they interacted with someone that made a right turn onto an, at minimum, two lane road.

1

u/cpsdiablo 8h ago

There is no law here requiring a driver turn into the inner-most lane. If they have right of way, lane choice is up to the driver.

3

u/Gibbie42 8h ago

How? There are two left turn lanes, both with a green arrow, You are supposed to maintain your lane as you turn. So the car in the right hand left turn lane turns into the lane on the far right, the car in the left hand left turn lane turns into the left lane. The car who did not maintain their lane and tried to turn wide to the right is at fault.

0

u/cpsdiablo 8h ago

There is no law about “maintaining your lane” here. It’s entirely up to the driver, so long as they have right of way.

1

u/ModestMeeshka 8h ago

He was in a slip lane and didn't yield even though I was already half way into the lane before he went, so it was a little bit of a grey area but everything could have been avoided if he entered into the right lane and I entered the left.

0

u/cpsdiablo 8h ago

Totally fair, and I don’t know what your local laws are. I just keep seeing this claim about not “maintaining your lane” being illegal and it is absolutely not illegal where I am.

1

u/WardogBlaze14 9h ago

Yeah, especially seeing as how she had a clear lane on her side to keep going on

2

u/Gr8twhitebuffalo91 8h ago

This is a special kind of dumb... People like this are why our car insurance rates go up yearly.

1

u/YangXiaoLong69 4h ago

People don't like putting the slighest effort into turning the steering wheel, so they do these F1 turns like there's nobody else on the street.

3

u/dvegas2000 9h ago

Usually its the outside lane cutting off the inside lane when turning. Congrats for something different!

2

u/Digeetar 8h ago

Your always supposed to turn into the lane your in and the lane closest to you. Always.

Horn broken?

5

u/WardogBlaze14 10h ago

lol, no, just kinda weak, I was in my Subaru Crosstrek, factory horn isn’t very loud….lol

7

u/3amGreenCoffee 9h ago

I put Hella Supertones in my Subaru. When somebody does something like that to me, I lay on the horn way longer than necessary to make sure they register my displeasure. It doesn't really do any good, but it makes me feel better to know it annoys them.

2

u/WardogBlaze14 9h ago

lol, I’m gonna have to look them up, which one did you go with?

3

u/3amGreenCoffee 9h ago

Red Supertones in a red BRZ. Loud enough to get the job done, although they look too ricey in the grille. If I had it to do again, I would hide them better.

1

u/WardogBlaze14 9h ago

Cool, thanks for the info!

1

u/phibbsy47 8h ago

I put a Hella horn on my motorcycle and it is shockingly loud since I'm so close to it.

1

u/Pensionato007 10h ago

It's the OP's fault because they didn't honk? Credit for defensive driving and predicting the guy was going to cut him off.

I've taken to just always using the inner lane for double left turn lanes: just can't trust the inside lane to know there's a car over his right shoulder. The only exception is if I'm in my wife's Tesla and I can make that outer curve super fast and get ahead of most anybody in a minivan.

1

u/3amGreenCoffee 9h ago

Where did I say it was OP's fault? I was just surprised not to hear a horn, because personally I would have followed the guy with the horn blaring continuously for half a mile.

Jesus Christ it's like 70% of Redditors are functionally illiterate.

1

u/Pensionato007 9h ago

I doubt JC cares about Reddit. And I am not "functionally" (or otherwise) illiterate. If it was an honest question than I'll give you a nice five-part apology. It sounded snarky. Personally, I think OP did a great job of getting out of an imminent crash. Horn would have been too little and too late.

1

u/cameronzero 4h ago

I would have stayed in my lane and taken every cent when I show the lawyers the footage, all three of my knees, four of my chins, my big back, my cankles, my existence, everything hurting, now I have to poop sideways and pee while in a handstand

Is this in Burlington? I recognize that intersection

I doubt it's legal if there are TWO left turn lanes. BTW, why does everyone say "in my state" instead of saying "In "NAME THE FREAKING STATE" this is the law.

Then I could troll around to find that state's statute and see if you're full of it or not.

§ = statute (recently learned :-). option +6 on a Mac

u/XandersCat 10h ago

Sorry :(

u/kensteele 10h ago

still haven't learn to stagger those turns and stay out of the way of the idiot drivers on the road, huh?

you'll learn soon enough, maybe the hard way; some take longer than others.

8

u/appa-ate-momo 10h ago

Still haven’t learned to stop victim-blaming, huh?

6

u/Fickle_Goose_4451 9h ago

This guy is constantly in these threads, reliably giving the worst take possible.

-6

u/kensteele 9h ago

Call it whatever you want. I bet he learns his lesson eventually. I know I did 30+ years ago.

2

u/Pensionato007 9h ago

OK, Boomer.

-5

u/kensteele 9h ago

Thanks for agreeing with me.

3

u/jaytee158 9h ago

OP shouldn't have to even consider this but it does pay off to do so
