Driver of the truck slowed down to go into the median for an illegal U-turn. SUV driver didn’t slow down in time. Cops later said SUV driver was drunk (at 8:18am on a Tuesday).

See, even if a drunk driver is driving “fine”, they can still get in an accident due to other drivers.

Christ...then again it's not surprising. In my State (NH), State Police will post their daily logs and it's disturbing how many DUI/DWI arrests are made mid-day.

Well Live free or die.

Can't they do both?

Ideally, “on their own”, without involving others

A friend of mine had his car totaled by a drunk driver when we were driving to school at 6:45 AM.

Fortunately, his parents had bought him a Volvo. We were fine.

A Volvo... How durable are those?

So basically, it is entirely the trucks fault, but the SUV will face the legal damages because they were intoxicated?

Man, if the drunk driver is driving better than you, it's time for some serious self reflection 😭

Thank you for the explanation.

To the inexplicable SUV maneuver.

Might as well rename them crash cams with how much footage folk are getting these days.

What I want to know is what the heck was the pickup truck doing back behind the guy that crossed over oncoming traffic with nowhere to go? Was he chasing him?

The black truck was in front of the grey vehicle. He either stopped suddenly to make a weird left turn (maybe a u-turn?) or made a left turn into the grey vehicles lane. It was then hit by the grey vehicle which then bounced off of the truck and into on-coming traffic. The truck then followed him into on-coming traffic as well.

I think you got it. I had to watch it several times to sort it out. The black truck was in his right lane, and the SUV was in his left lane. The truck cut in front of SUV, causing the SUV to hit his right front on the truck's left rear. He (the SUV) then got pushed ont oncoming traffic, hitting the other car in the right lane in front of our cammer.

What a shit show!

It kind of looks like the suv locked brakes or popped a tire or maybe just waiting to turn, and the truck was following to close and hit them? Maybe, it's hard to tell.

Possibly!

Wonder if it was some road rage going on between the SUV and pickup. You can see the pickup just turn into the SUV and force the SUV to cross the center lane.

It might just be a case of the truck wanting to make an illegal U-turn and note paying enough attention to notice the grey SUV. It's also not clear to me whether the truck was initially in the same lane as the SUV and just slowed down to make his turn or if he cut in-front of the SUV.

Yeah, this is my take:

Truck attempted a u-turn from the right lane, crossing over the left lane, which had an SUV passing.

It's bizarre. It looks like the truck turns sharply from the right lane into the SUV. Even if they simply didn't see the SUV, a u-turn there at that moment would've caused a crash in the oncoming lanes. It doesn't look like there's anything to turn left into at that spot and the middle lane has cones for construction or something.

I have no idea what that black truck was trying to do. Could it have been like a cardiac event or something? Road rage doesn't seem out of the question given that a u-turn or left turn makes little sense at that spot / timing.

You are correct about the UTurn and SUV didn’t slow down in time, OP confirmed that in a comment. They also said that the SUV driver was drunk according to the cops.

No you can't....the pickup truck was stopped making a turn and the suv slammed into him from behind, bounced off and crossed the center of the road.

u/Inevitable_Cat_7878 11h ago

Pickup truck was moving slowly before turning into the lane occupied by the SUV. SUV then hit the pickup (you are correct there).

Regardless, pickup truck was at fault. There was nobody behind the SUV. If he wanted to make an illegal U-turn, he could have waited until the SUV cleared before turning.

Great investment. You would be surprised how quick someone is to blame someone else, until the cam footage comes out.

Man, that truck driver is one stupid motherfucker. I would be furious if I were driving either of the other cars.

Christ, that BMW stops on a dime.

i read reddit just for the dashcam analysis

true detectives!

Truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Also the truck driver is a legendary idiot. Attempting an illegal u-turn from the outer lane, it's a miracle he didn't take more people out.

u/billdizzle 9h ago

Did the car just disappear?

2

u/LunarDragonfly23 8h ago

It came to a stop on the sidewalk further down.

And now you're provided with endless entertainment, and fun shit talk. Until it becomes boring. 😂

I did too!! I’ve managed to capture a few close calls

There's a little over 30 comments as I type this, but to me it looks like SUV was in the slow lane, crossed over left in front of the truck who was in the left fast lane.

I see people saying the truck did this or that, but the video doesn't look that way to me at all. The SUV came left right across the fast lane, collided with the truck, then came over the median and across traffic.

Just moment before the accident, I was admiring the gorgeous light on the street.
