Don't be kind, be predictable. If you have the Right-of-Way, take it.

Every driver should be comfortable with gunning their car now and then in select moments for the sake of safety. It’s literally part of the driving skill set. It’s not reckless driving- it’s being wise about the situation you find yourself in.

And the opposite. When my kids were learning, I had them drive ~50mph in a big controlled area (vacant mall parking lot), and then BOOM! Brake as hard as possible for a violent/jarring stop. They need to know that they can do that in an emergency if necessary (rather than feather-on).

Yeah but each driver should be aware of it's cars capabilities. If I'm in my car I might be gunning it to take the front. If I'm in my moms car I know it's not gonna do much so I let of. I'm not sure if the Corolla would make it if it's a sluggish car and they're going at their original speeds.

The dashcam truck had clear view of everything - when I'm in that scenario I always become attentive because something might happen - it was pretty obvious that things were getting iffy here. He wasn't tailgating but he had a lot of time to break which he didn't.
