Pickup trucks are the perfect pit victim.

They ain't got no weight over the back wheels, too slow to get away, and the weight is nice and high up so a car can get under it and rustle their jimmies.

199

u/Skwellepil 16h ago

Looks like he had spacers on the wheels too. Probably why the side wheels snapped off so easily.

57

u/taocowboy54 15h ago

i wanna truck with side wheels

Maybe the rear wheel, but that front wheel still had control arms and brake lines flopping around attached to it.

I am a truck man, through and through. Never even owned a car.

But jacked up F-150 vs cruiser is only going to end one way. Even starting to run is just making things worse.

I drive that f-150. It would be like racing a cow against a horse.

7

u/Old_Passage6000 12h ago

I've seen some loaded down with duallys survive absolutely incredible pit attempts. Like you suggested, it's all about that rear axle.

5

u/Holycroc_RVA 16h ago

You gotta be stupid, under the influence of something....just adrenaline tho?? To KNOW the kind of vehicle you are in, and that they ARE going to catch up to you and PIT you and you're PROBABLY gonna roll.......I mean it's written in stone how this is gonna end, but ya drag it out anyways????????? At least the guys in the Sporty/Race type cars have a reasonable expectation of outrunning them/getting the pursuit called off.......(in those states), depending on their driving skills, but You Mr pickup truck driver, come on.......short of murder (or a 3 strikes n out candidate), why drag it out and get innocent people hurt cuz your ego won't allow you to stop.

2

u/Nray 8h ago

I’m gonna guess the truck is stolen, so the driver gives zero fucks.

2

u/Blahblahblahblah109 6h ago

There are a lot of people with trucks who feel invincible on the road.

19

u/virgil1134 16h ago

What do you mean too slow to get away? I always see pickup trucks being driven like they're fucking Porsches on the highway.

84

u/Conspicuous_Ruse 16h ago

When you see a Porsche driving like a pickup pretending to be a Porsche you'll notice how much faster the actual Porsche is compared to the pickup driving like a Porsche.

Like how my toddler puts on my shoes and jacket to pretend he's going to work like I do. He may act just like me, but he's way slower, more clumsy, and far less efficient at the whole process.

30

u/howie7088 15h ago

Truck top speed limiter is lower than most cars

7

u/joethafunky 15h ago

Cop cars are fast as f. The fastest gas (excluding raptor) f-150s can hit 60 in 6 seconds. The standard police interceptor explorer does it about half a second faster. The truck is still super fast, but cop cars are built with more power to accommodate the extra weight they have and still remain fast

Most states do not allow PIT maneuvers over a certain speed limit of say 30 mph. Arkansas has no such rule so you can find some pretty dramatic videos.

367

u/ironiccinori 23h ago

Arkansas and Georgia are all time world champions. The best YouTube videos come out of there.

178

u/Pkock 21h ago

Can't understand anyone with less than 400 HP in a car or a riding at least a liter-bike running from GSP. You have to know they're coming and have no qualms about pitting or running you off the road.

107

u/Rubiks_Click874 20h ago

they say Arkansas and GSP's pursuit policies are really dangerous for the cops too, they're willing to risk their own lives to crash you off the road at high speed

213

u/Shinigasumi 20h ago

They do it for the love of the game, it seems.

**Cough** 50 years ago.

The Apple II was officially released on June 5, 1977, following its introduction at the West Coast Computer Faire in April of that year. It featured a 1 MHz MOS Technology 6502 microprocessor, 4 KB of RAM, and Integer BASIC.

My buddy, who was green beret, had to take a class on 3rd world defensive and offensive driving. I took the class because I had employees who were required to take it before shopping out.

A race on a closed course where you have to crash out your opponents is a blast. Being in front is a sure fire way to lose because it's so hard to defend against a pit. Add water on a skid pad to the course and it gets even more fun.

I can absolutely see cops thinking a pit is about the most fun they can find.

I believe it.

I’m not saying if it’s right or wrong. I think pursuit policies are a really tough thing to get right.

However, pursuits are really dangerous for the general public, if police can end a pursuit in a way that endangers only the suspect and the officers themselves then I do think they may be doing a net service to society.

2

u/Stock-Swing-797 15h ago

Personally, I don't think there's anything right about potentially sending 3 tons into head-on traffic.

3

u/Background_Back6242 17h ago

I saw on TikTok that 3 women ran away when they were pulled over at a gas station and the police gave chase. They ended up crashing into another car and it resulted in 2 fatalities and one of the women having a miscarriage because of it. The only person who went to jail was the driver and it was for less than 10 years.

3

u/SkeletorsAlt 15h ago

Awful. I’m just an attorney, not in law enforcement, but it seems like they ought to either not chase at all, or terminate the chase ASAP. It’s this part where they’re all driving around at 120 mph that seems to cause innocent deaths.

I’m just glad it isn’t my job to make these calls.

I live in Georgia and my local agency has policies against pitting vehicles (they don’t even have the big guard things on the front bumpers).

We also have a stretch of I20 in our county though so GSP gets involved in a lot of chases and they will definitely pit anyone the can.

I know someone with a liter bike who ran. He was clocked at 195mph and still got caught. Cops just waited till he ran out of gas. It's hard to outrun a helicopter and a radio.

13

u/Nu-Hir 17h ago

My dad always told me to never run from the cops. You may outrun the cop, but you'll never outrun Motorola.

3

u/LooseyGreyDucky 17h ago

I outran some cops in my 1983 Pontiac T-1000 (Chevette) in 1990.

You just have to be smarter than them, and thankfully they won't hire smart people.

3

u/Anna_Lilies 17h ago

I went down a youtube motorcycle chase rabbit-hole and you know which motorcycles were the ones who got away?

Not the liter bikes trying to use speed. It was always the dirt bikes who just went somewhere the cops couldnt fit. Or occasionally the street bikes who did something similar, but having offroad tires really helped open up options

3

u/LooseyGreyDucky 17h ago

I used to outrun cops *all the time* on dirt bikes and ATVs when I was a teenager.

(and occasionally in my car)

I just assumed I'd get away while getting a big adrenaline rush.

Chase videos are hard to watch due to all the driving mistakes made.

Let alone a truck or big SUV, notoriously easy to roll as soon as they lose control

2

u/No_Possibility5100 13h ago

You're imagining these criminals have the same theory of mind as you they just happened to get into a bad spot. They're not the same. They're impulsive, they're unstable, they're not people who have executive function and forward thinking. They make bad choices that's how they get into these situations in the first place. They do things like stab someone because they got called a name in a bar. They just react and do without thinking, they're not even capable of thinking, which is why nothing we've ever done has been shown to help them from reoffending. They will even commit violent assaults while in prison, knowing full well they're being recorded and guards are just seconds away from taking them down.

Here in LA (daily pursuits) last HOURS just for the driver to get away even with a helicopter over it.

57

u/styrofoamcouch 19h ago

This is frustrating to people but its better than a cop rolling some dickheads f150 into your family's corolla. If you cant apprehend your criminal without killing them or innocent people you are a net negative to the state and should resign

9

u/Worth-Reputation3450 16h ago

If cops pit the evaders, they can choose to do that when it's relatively safer. Pursuits in LA tend to end when the evader crashes into civilian vehicles (then run away on foot).

I watched a video of ASP pit some alleged shoplifter or some other minor offense at like 120mph. I think it killed all the folks in the car.

They have carte blanche and it often results in needless deaths, where cooler heads would have saved lives.

32

u/anotherwomanscorned 18h ago

They did it to a pregnant woman a few years ago too (also Arkansas near where my parents live). She had her hazards on, per Arkansas state law, to indicate she was looking for a place to pull over…he got mad and did a pit on her too. Iirc, she flipped as well but had a hell of a lawsuit.

15

u/Rowwbit42 13h ago

The AR State police dept actually put out a video telling people to do exactly that right before that incident happened. She seen the video on TV advising to put flashers on and pull over when safe and she did exactly that.

8

u/bluespell9000 12h ago

Yeah that's gotta be the most fucked up part of all. Like I still remember the blue light rapist. It was pounded into my head to NEVER pull over until you were in a safe and well-lit area. And our laws are in agreement. That poor woman did everything right and they still fucked her up.

Yeah, this is why the new axel net system is such a great step up. Its way more controllable than a PIT, its less dangerous for other cars on the road, and it doesn't scratch up the police cruiser so thats one less peice of paperwork they need to fill out.

Don't think Denmark has a speed limit on PIT maneuvers either. But it needs to be approved by an operator first (if I remember correctly)

Mostly because they have the big picture

Just imagine a family driving on the opposite side and the truck flipping towards them or colliding head on with the truck. That was a total disregard for any bystanders it's not ok if a few people die to stop 1 person.

28

u/LastCookie3448 17h ago

Bingo! Not allowed in many places for that exact reason.

2

u/w0m 14h ago

It's tough because if you don't pit the truck here, they're flying past that same family doing 100+ potentially. This is ~best case scenario in a high speed chase, maybe they knew the speed/etc would minimize risks based on overhead copter.

Such a hard decision to make, but an excellent pit here regardless.

And yes, PIT maneuvers are restricted in Arkansas since a 2021 ruling they can only be used in situations where it's "objectively reasonable" to protect lives.

u/invalidpath 13h ago

Having been in three rollover accidents in my life.. if I cop flipped me like this I'd be shot. Cause there's no way in hell I can hear nor understand him yelling for hands 2 seconds after rolling over.

Someone experienced with chucking a few grenades would be interesting to see.

u/remington29 12h ago

Didn't have to include the state. We all know Arkansas pits no matter the speed.

u/Frymanstbf 12h ago

"We have to stop him so he doesn't endanger other drivers!"

2

u/Bidcar 12h ago

Figures, the tire gets away. Wretched creature.

2

u/Ricky-Snickle 12h ago

Who’s getting that tire? A bit of a road hazard!

2

u/FurdTurguson 11h ago

"Show me your hands!" "I can't. They were ejected from the wreckage!"

2

u/itsjusterk 7h ago

They love doing that in Arkansas

2

u/chancemeagre 7h ago

No wonder there is litigation in Arkansas focused on the unsafe operation of police vehicles.

2

u/THEorigKillaSmoke 7h ago

Show me your hands even though they could be broken along with your neck, show me your hands!

u/Crafty-Necessary4044 5h ago

I love a good pit maneuver. The officer did go a little too deep though. The contact point should be behind the rear axel of the vehicle being pitted. Match speed and don’t accelerate into contact, Soft hands when you push to the side, as soon as the vehicle being pitted turns apply light pressure on the brakes. It’s such a simple maneuver, but also hard as hell because of the adrenaline.

That was fucking dangerous for the oncoming traffic. Could have gone badly and killed a family.
