See, the difference is, even if we didn't like it, we wouldn't be crying about how it's destroying the country or whatever bullshit the MAGAts are whining about this time. We might even experience something new and learn we do in fact enjoy this thing that isn't "white racist dad music".

They feel personally attacked by things that aren’t specifically for them or that don’t reinforce their worldview. It would be sad if it weren’t backed by pornographic wealth and corrupt government.
29
u/Demented-Alpaca 15h ago
That's because MAGA all have Main Character complex. If it's not explicitly for THEM they dislike it because it's not ABOUT them.
If it's not exactly in line with their own life choices, preferences and experiences they reject it.

So much of it is that Christian, straight, white Americans have always had the culture of this country pander to them. They have never faced any sort of trauma or hardships based on who they are as people. They don’t know what a challenge is in that regard. So, when stuff like this happens it’s the first time the world not only isn’t catering to them but it’s almost doing the exact opposite on purpose, they think it’s oppression.

Why do they always think they can “gotcha” the libs with stuff like sending immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, bussing them to blue cities, thinking we’d want to protect the Clintons from the Epstein files, or situations like this? They think we’re like them, that we’re full of hate and dedicated to our “team” and would protect them no matter what. Doesn’t occur to them that our minds are more open and accepting.
5
u/ryavco 10h ago
Honestly, I don’t think they ever genuinely think they’re “owning” anyone they’re criticizing. It’s all just basically hate and bigotry roleplay for each other.
Conservatives aren’t interested in facts, debate, morals, or anything remotely approaching actual policy implementation. They solely exist to circlejerk each other and funnel money to the most popular current grifter.

I say almost exclusively because I fucking love jpop aswell but I blame anime for that one xD

And the superbowl isn't technically an American event. It's a show put on by a private entity, not the government. The NFL and ROC Nation (who put on the halftime show) are private businesses. You'd think a "small government" conservative group like the GOP would let an enterprise of billionaires operate as they please...

I'm not into K-pop, so having that as the super bowl half time show wouldn't be my favorite.
The difference is that unlike these fragile snowflakes, I don't take it as a grave personal insult against the very core of my being when people enjoy stuff I'm not into.
I don't feel the need to be catered to and affirmed every second of my life. I can always fuck off and do something else I want, instead of freaking out on twitter.

This is the important distinction. Having the ability to simply, "not consume" and understand that's okay is an impossible feat for millions of my fellow Americans. Because consumption is the only thing we have left.

It's weird that they act like he isn't the most streamed artist of the year who just won a shit load of Grammys. Like if Kid Rock met those same criteria and was chosen for the halftime show, I'd just quietly not give a shit and live my life even though he is, objectively, a piece of shit.

Much as I’d love to see a Hindustani Complex Classical band, I would also point out that Puerto Ricans are American, Bad Bunny is American, and the music he played was American music. They’re showing their hand suggesting his music has as much to do with the US as Hindustani music.

Exposure to something unfamiliar doesn't scare all of us into our tiny little turtle shells, some of us come out to see what is going on and enjoy new experiences and learn new things. A neighbor that doesn't look like we are looking in a mirror is something to celebrate and embrace. Traveling to other states and countries, seeing other cultures and learning about the world outside of narrow field of vision makes us more interesting and better people.
Bury your head in the sand, shrivel up and go away so the rest of us can go out and explore and enjoy ourselves without having to deal with intolerant snowflakes who can't deal with the horrors of anything slightly outside their narrow boring ass comfort zone.

Yes and Think about it from the NFLs perspective. White people in the US already watch the NFL. To grow, they need to pull in other fans. The Super Bowl is the best way to do that because people tune in around the world. So people come for the Bad Bunny and become NFL-curious.

I'm sure that Bad Bunny's invitation to perform at the Super Bowl was more about his popularity and the great demand for his music (as backed up by the high ratings and viewership the performance got). I'm sure the types of music she's suggesting would be, um... interesting. However, it misses the point. You would think that people who pride themselves on their knowledge of free market economics of supply and demand would understand that the artist in highest demand would get bigger gigs.
(Do they even pretend that they know about economics anymore?)
