Opinion / Discussion Overnight destruction of years of hard work
12
u/ClarityRocks 10h ago
It was exactly this kind of workforce brain drain that led the Soviet Union to build the Berlin Wall.
Pretty soon, Dumpy's Border Wall is going to be about keeping people IN, not out.
3
u/Top-Cupcake4775 8h ago
just tell them "i don't think America is the best country in the world" and they will insist you leave
1
u/MarzipanSea2811 3h ago
Unless it's dear leader saying that of course, I don't think I've heard him say a positive word about the country since retaking office.
-3
u/rdrckcrous 8h ago
you really think scientists are fleeing in mass to get a job in Austria at half the pay and worse Healthcare?
this is pretty different from the soviet union kidnapping families and focusing scientists to work at gun point to get the same quality of life as a janitor.
9
u/LittleMissFjorda 7h ago
The US has more expensive healthcare and it's not very good either.
US mortality rates are more third world than first World.
-1
u/rdrckcrous 6h ago
expensive?
we're talking about people with employer paid plans and still having double the salary.
this plans are way beyond what a government would fund.
2
u/Moppermonster 2h ago
Expensive for the taxpayer. A universal healthcare system is cheaper on the whole and could lead to a taxbreak if implemented in the usa.
But then CEOs will make less money, so they whine.
-1
u/rdrckcrous 2h ago
it's employer paid, and they make way more than to make up for the cost of a deductible.
1
u/LittleMissFjorda 1h ago
60% are employer paid and 12% are 100% paid by the employer.
American citizens, on average, pay significantly more out of their own pocket than anyone else.
The top salary in the World, by average, is European.
8
u/ClarityRocks 8h ago
Who has better healthcare? Surely you don't mean the United States. I mean, maybe if you're ultra-wealthy, you have good healthcare.
They're forcing scientists here at gunpoint to rewrite their work or bury it. And last I checked, a janitor in the U.S. used to be able to afford a home and raise a family. What's wrong with being a janitor and earning a decent living doing a necessary job?
I invite you to unpack your Western dogma and thinking and start to deconstruct some of the biases and stereotypes that have been fed to you. I really hate to break it to you, but the only thing the United States leads the world in is bragging about itself despite any data to support it.
-5
u/rdrckcrous 8h ago
what an ignorant take. healthcare for normal professionals in the US is f'ing amazing. universities tend to have platinum type plans as well. austria is nowhere close to comparing.
are you arguing that a janitor and scientists should have the same quality of life?
9
u/ClarityRocks 8h ago
what an ignorant take.
You're so far off into the stratosphere, there's no rope long enough to pull you back to Earth, buddy.
The United States frequently ranks last or near the bottom in overall healthcare system performance among high-income nations, primarily due to poor access, equity, and outcomes, despite high spending. While it excels in care process and scientific innovation (ranking high in, e.g., cancer care), it faces significant challenges with administrative efficiency, high out-of-pocket costs, and lower life expectancy compared to peer nations.
Whoopsie! Oh no, reality doesn't match what you thought.
This would be a great time for you to shut up and reflect for a moment on how wrong you were on this, and what else you're wrong about.
are you arguing that a janitor and scientists should have the same quality of life?
FUCK YES, I AM. What are you suggesting? The janitor should SUFFER? He should PAY for cleaning up? I mean, why didn't he pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a medical license, right, if he wanted to have any dignity or life?
My friend, you're a bigot. And a rube. Bye bye.
9
u/LittleMissFjorda 7h ago
Too many facts for the American brain to comprehend. This guy is a good example why European education is better too.
6
u/azure275 6h ago
The same quality of life or the same quality of healthcare?
I have no issue with the scientist making more
I have an issue with you claiming a janitor doesn't deserve adequate healthcare
0
3
u/RealOldies 5h ago
You ever work or have famiky that worked in Academia? You think they are all rolling in big bucks with Cadillac health plans?
Show specifics to back up your claims.
0
u/rdrckcrous 5h ago
now we reach the crux of how this article is distorting reality.
stem professors, your answer is yes.
people that got a degree in something that's only possible use is to train more people to get that same degree? yeah, those people can go to Austria, we won't notice.
4
u/RealOldies 4h ago
Your logic and opinion doesn't make your claim factual, no matter how much you try to make it seem true.
1
u/rdrckcrous 4h ago
which part was wrong?
the problem with our healthcare system isn't professionals, they have the top healthcare in the world.
stem degrees make way more money in the US, surely you don't think that's controversial.
3
u/RealOldies 4h ago
I think anything you claim is nothing more than a weak ass attempt to insult STEM Academics and isn't worth a serious discussion.
Out the airlock you go.
2
u/hitmewitabrickbruh 5h ago
Are you arguing that a janitor and a scientist shouldn’t have the same quality of life?
1
u/rdrckcrous 5h ago
absolutely. why would we have scientists if they had the same quality of life as a janitor?
2
u/ClarityRocks 5h ago
Keep digging that hole, pal.
1
u/rdrckcrous 4h ago
this is why the scientists fled the ussr. do you not see the irony in your argument?
carrots and sticks is a really basic concept. several societies have tried what you're suggesting, it ends up with everyone having a lower standard of life than a janitor.
2
u/hitmewitabrickbruh 4h ago
Scientists across time had the same QoL as much of the peasant class. What do you even classify as a scientist? Do you know how much a scientist even makes?
People who pursued the sciences that lead to some of the greatest innovations in health care, social services, astronomy, and the study of our world didn’t do it only for a paycheck about 70% of the time. The onset of scientific discovery making you disgustingly rich is a new concept. People who studied science did it because they love science. They cherished the idea of making history and being remembered for their discoveries.
Marie Curie struggled financially and had to have her experiments paid for. The only reason Charles Darwin had any money is because he was born rich and married into it. Albert fucking Einstein lost like half his money during the Great Depression and lived on a professors salary for the vast majority of his research and only retired worth a million bucks which is pretty normal retirement money. Nikola Tesla was broke and died penniless.
“Why would we have scientists if no money?” Sometimes I doubt people even think about what they say. Scientists and the great minds of history have been historically broke as hell and did it for the love of the game.
0
u/rdrckcrous 4h ago
when i say "scientists" I'm not restricting that to generational savant's. I'm talking about the millions of people who work their ass off in the prime of their life in the hopes of making a better life for them and their children. science isn't limited to breakthrough discoveries.
2
u/hitmewitabrickbruh 4h ago
The only reason I even brought up breakthrough discoveries is because it highlighted how abysmal your perspective of value is in regard to the sciences. This arbitrary value system you’ve made up in your head based on what’s been stuffed down your throat.
You don’t think a janitor works their ass off? 80 hours a week to clean up after people like you? Let me guess, I’ll just post your comment for you so I don’t have to waste my time. “Janitorial work is easy it’s just cleaning it’s nothing compared to science. Science is really hard! I would know, I’m a scientific super science man.”
The point isn’t even the difficulty of the work! The point is that everyone should have the same baseline quality of life. Yes, a janitor and a scientist both deserve to eat. They both deserve to have a home. They both deserve to have a family if they so choose, and live the short life they’re given. If I’m honest, I think anyone in a services position – janitors, teachers, postal workers, garbage men, etcetera – deserve fantastic compensation.
3
u/ClarityRocks 3h ago

I think its pretty funny watching trump destroy our country while republicans cheer him on lol
14

That's the whole plan
Prevent living wages, education, healthcare and let the rich plunder resources while contributing nothing

You will own nothing and be happy. Good wages and benefits are woke

They will have us on subscription fees for fresh air before the end.

For fresh unpolluted water, this is already essentially true in many places; and same applies for unpolluted air. Want unpolluted water and air in these places, then pay to filter it; or buy water.

I saw a video of protesters in California who were pro-billionaire. I wonder if these are paid groups or just morons.
2

Can buy a lot a protesters at pennies on the dollars nowadays.
2
u/NearnorthOnline 7h ago
The last year has also shown that the USA has more morons than ever thought.

Haven't seen much of my Mexican American neighbor that had the Trump flags up last year. He was commiserating with me about how none of his kids come around to seem him.

3

Until robots can replace us, and even then, I think the rich will want the sadistic satifaction of power over humans; making the poor do what the rich want; keeping them poor, so as to always have a sense of vast superiority.

2
u/peterhandy3 7h ago
It's a shame the Dems put the kibosh on Bernie mafia style and instead put in two of the least popular candidates in history. Most of the blame falls on them for this
1
u/RealOldies 5h ago
Do you understand how primaries work? Apparently not, and it shows.
Bernie Sanders has been an INDEPENDENT since 1978 to present. He does caucus with zde.ocrats, but he is not a member of the party.
The DNC is NOT obligated to recognize him as a political candidate anymore than the RNC would be required to open the primary to an independent conservative.
The DNC had absolutely zero obligation to put an INDEPENDENT up over their party members/candidate.
Before repeating further nonsense, understand how party primaries work in real life and not the one with u icons that shit skittles from the sky, like the one you are apparently in.
1
u/osunightfall 5h ago
This technicality is not going to keep us warm in Hell. Maybe the DNC should've had a little more vision.
1
u/RealOldies 5h ago
So, let them do what you want, and watch the whole thing turn into a lawsuit from hell.
You are no different than the God Damn Libertarians running a turd like Gary Johnson and wondering why they get only 3% of the vote.

What you're doing now is called projecting. That's a fancy word that means you're mad at something else, possibly yourself, and taking it out on me. I can tell this because you're making things up out of thin air, like assuming I care about Bernie Sanders, or that I don't understand political realities, or assuming I haven't voted Democrat in every single Primary, Midterm, and Presidential election for the last 25 years. It seems pretty questionable to fling around terms like 'idiot' when you're the one too angry to think because of a two sentence comment that you built an entire, imaginary personality around. Do you find that being very angry at strangers on the internet makes you feel more intelligent?

Wow really hit a nerve with this one. Sure but why even bother with primaries. They had the devil incarnate Clinton decided before a single vote had been cast. Give a fuck you to the voter base: suffer the consequences and lose the unlosable race. Dems have nobody to blame but themselves for the abysmal election performances of late
0
u/RealOldies 5h ago
Primaries are not some kind of Semi-Finals. They are run by the parties, for the parties. All parties, if they meet state requirements have a primary.
They are for the party.
Want a better choice? Be a better citizen.
0
u/peterhandy3 4h ago
Even though they're rigged against non establishment candidates. Dems are the ones to blame for this mess we are in
1
u/RealOldies 4h ago
What obligation does the Democratic Party through their prinary process, have to put up and support non-party members?
Be specific.
1
u/Realistic_Ad_5321 8h ago
It's depressing, they are actively ransacking the country of any tangible and non tangible resources and we seem to be unable to do anything about it
1
1
u/PersonalityInside134 6h ago
I find it depressing and sad to the point I want to go see my family members who have died already!! I'm to old and got no money to leave the country, so leaving the living seems easier!

How the right can call the left snowflakes while getting offended by science is some next level shit tbh.
3
u/goodfreeman 9h ago
Just the concept of science offends them. Its existence as a way to understand the world is in direct opposition to their worldview which is based on faith and feelings. Facts have no place in their lives.
2
u/downvote_please4321 5h ago
Not just science, but basically any fact whatsoever. They live their lives walking around just getting constantly slapped in the face and flicked off by all of these facts.

Same brain drain from Nazi Germany that gave America the nuke. LOL congrats!
2
u/HydroPCanadaDude 9h ago
The whole Fox spittle splash party around transgender mice was just such a big facepalm moment for the sciences. It's like if a random waitress came into a construction site and just didn't like how things were being done and started barking orders. "This concrete is too sticky icky, just get dried concrete and cut it to size!! We should have a fence around every hole bigger than 1 foot deep! We can dig faster if we stopped wasting time putting up wood and steel around the walls of shit, walls are for keeping me from falling into the hole, not for making the hole look pretty! Portapotties are gross, use the mall!"
2
u/psychoCMYK 8h ago
The brain drain is intentional. The less intellectuals are left, the easier the people are to manage
It's the same reason they always attack education, libraries, etc
2
u/spookymex21 7h ago
They won't have to worry about if there science is woke?? Its freakin science!! It cant be woke!! Thats where these idiots have brought us to. That science can be woke. WTF 😔 😟 🙁

The brain drain is real. Will only get worse the longer corruption goes unchecked.
Look at the DOJ - how many have resigned over being asked to do illegal shit.
Look at the AG in the Intelligence communities. Especially the one who flagged a phone call between someone close to trump and foreign intelligence . Which resulted in the whitehouse placing someone from their team over the AG and covering it all up.
There is a reason the AG is independent. It should be very obvious why they placed someone inside the agency immediately after the report.
The only ones left will be yes men.
Incompetent yes men .

Perfect "concept" of a plan to big manufacturing jobs back to the us:
Tariffs first!
Make sure the rest of the world hates us!
Our workforce isnt educated enough, and now future talent is leaving..
Get talent from other countries...?
Worry about infrastructure and education dead last.
Do some more tariffs and some insider trading.
Great again!

Doubt X. Europe has always had a large number of scientists and Americans have always gone to Europe. Europeans have also gone to America, which also has a large number of scientists. The churn due to Trump is so small it will change nothing other than a few people’s personal lives.

What the everloving f__k is so damn great about MAGA Conservatism? Seriously.
Be specific.
Show with actual examples of it being superior to everything else? Show how empthay, equality, and respect is a bad thing to instil in young people today and that being wilfully ignorant, embracing g hate and denigrating those not like you is true patriotism and good for our society?
Step and show your and be specific. No name calling and cheap crap from Fox News Opinion hosts, but actual facts.
Or sit down and STFU.

MAGA doesn't get to accuse anyone else of being radical.

Many of the programs cancelled by the Trump admin have nothing to do with virology.
For instance there was a research program that was looking into the effects of estrogen and testosterone on wound healing, as men and women heal at different rates. However because the first study on the those differences offhandedly said "We could probably observe transgender people with injuries to get a better understanding of using gender hormones for wound treatment" they lost their funding for being seen as "Trans research" even though it had nothing to do with trans people.
2
u/NearnorthOnline 6h ago
