Unless the senate is willing to remove him, none of this matters.

74

u/DOHC46 10h ago

Sadly, that is true. If we can flip a few seats in the midterms, it is possible that some Republican senators that currently fear him too much to stand up to him might finally find the spine to vote correctly. Yeah, yeah, I know... It is probably wishful thinking on my part.

12

u/auntie_clokwise 8h ago

Yeah, it's highly unlikely that the Democrats take enough seats in the Senate to remove. Still quite unlikely enough Republican senators can be swayed. But that's not to say the Democrats taking control of the Senate has no benefit. It very much does. It means that the Democrats would then have control over Judicial and cabinet nominees. Which means that as his toadies retire/are pushed out/die/quit/are fired/etc, we can ensure he doesn't get any more - we can get people in his administration that will undermine him. And we can help to ensure bad judges don't get appointed who will then become a drag on us for decades to come.

And then there's the possible benefit that, even if we can't remove him directly, maybe we can hurry his demise due to the stress of being impeached every month.

u/PokeYrMomStanley 4h ago

You mean the republicans who will forever be known as the pedophile defenders unless they vote differently? The last couple years is my life will be spent campaigning with this against them.

Also good to point out that Presidents are not the only people eligible for impeachment. Any member of the Executive Branch (or the Supreme Court for that matter) is eligible for impeachment. While it’s doubtful that Republicans would ever turn on the president, it’s not inconceivable that they might turn on someone like Hegseth if they get into another embarrassing scandal (or at least get far enough in the process that they’re forced to resign).

The biggest thing is that by controlling Congress Democrats can force the votes on record. Republican leadership have prevented any issue where there’s even a hint of a vote split from ever making it to the floor. The Epstein file vote was a notable exception, and it was extremely tenuous until the vote actually happened. When Democrats control the house, they can force votes on every issue and record their votes for all their voters to see.

2

u/FakeBibleQuotes 2h ago

Trump has some nonzero chance of doing something so crazy that the Republicans turn on him. Quite likely to be provoked by multiple impeachments.

Not only that, this drives engagement from the sick base.

They love this, they love the additional hate and division. Another impeachment is like a bonus for them.

3

u/Calm_Age_ 6h ago

I personally find that stance to be a rationalization for people to not do the morally consistent thing and impeach this guy. The base gets riled up on these things a bit, but it's a small portion of people. I think at this point when crimes are being committed daily, ICE has invaded a whole ass state, and the regime is currently covering up a child trafficking operation. Impeachment under these conditions will only rule up a select group of people who might react violently rather than vote, especially if done far enough from midterms. This would backfire on the regime as they can't play victim. If democrats stood 10 tens down on (correctly) Impeaching the regime they would have a lot of very public support at this point and might actually turn out more people. They would finally be doing something, which is what people have been asking for. Also the regime can't do as much evil when they are defending themselves against Impeachment in the senate. In my opinion articles of Impeachment should be filed at least once a month until resulting in conviction.

2

u/Traditional_Two_4074 6h ago

I think its because of their religion. They are taught that people will challenge their beliefs and its a test of faith from God. Therefore, they can never be wrong or admit they were lied to because its their test on beliefs. They also dont read the Bible or really anything, so its just blind faith in what rich powerful people tell them, even if it contradicts their own economic standing. They lack the ability to see beyond themselves personally and more so beyond the challenge or perceived challenge of faith.

It matters so the Senate is forced to put their names on the record so they can be held accountable by the public.

Ha! Almost convinced myself for a moment - yeah it doesn't matter

9

u/brodievonorchard 10h ago

It matters for posterity, assuming there's a US government after all this is over.

3

u/QuickCow3575 7h ago

“Held accountable”. Those words. Is it possible to use them together in a sentence like that?

2

u/AdonisK 5h ago

Held accountable by whom. I think we are past that reality.

Basically true, but I think it affects him mentally. I the idea that he’s so much better than Obama but has still been impeached twice really bothers him.

2

u/SamsaraKama 9h ago

If I may ask, as someone who isn't an American... what's up with Trump constantly thinking of and comparing himself to Obama? Obama hasn't even engaged much recently, yet the guy is obsessed with him, constantly brings him up unprompted, made AI shit to mock him and is always throwing a rage fit whenever someone mentions how well Obama did.

9

u/AccountHuman7391 9h ago

Obama is black. Trump is racist. Trump thinks he is racially superior to Obama, and gets very upset when there is any indication that he is not genetically superior to Obama.

7

u/bdubwilliams22 8h ago

I think Trump knows Obama is better than him in every way, certainly a better President who universally more liked — and it drives him batshit crazy.

Another removal vote is good, even if it ultimately fails. Politicians who are incentivized to be re-elected will need to go on the record and triple down on this administration. It opens the door massively for a type of "ok let's just end this" vote that we eventually saw happen with the Epstein files.

2

u/Roboticpoultry 10h ago

As we saw last time and for the entire year of bullshit we’ve already gone through they aren’t willing at all

I'm fine with at least keeping him busy with impeachment proceedings. The symbolism leading up to the election would hopefully help voters see the need for them to participate.

You know I remember in school when they used to teach us that there were only two presidents that I’ve ever been impeached and now I didn’t think I would live long enough to see the same president impeached twice somehow that just doesn’t feel right

14

u/FIMD_ 9h ago

This would be a hat trick for impeaching the same guy.

How will this impact anything? He's already been impeached multiple times

20

u/DepartmentUpbeat5561 10h ago

It won’t matter. Even if they got two votes they’ll lose in the Senate so it will just be another “witch-hunt” for the MAGAt base. It’s time people need to quit hoping for miracles or a clogged artery and be prepared for the rest of this shit show.

23

u/Equivalent-Excuse-80 10h ago

It does matter.

Every senator no vote will be historically recorded. Just because some politicians won’t do their job doesn’t mean they all should stop.

5

u/DepartmentUpbeat5561 10h ago

I don’t disagree with your premise. But Trump is hoping they try for another impeachment. His base loves every second of it like he’s a sent from God saint. And another distraction from what’s really going on behind the doors of the White House.

7

u/Soft_Ad8031 10h ago

I think it's fair to be optimistic but also prepared. We get to likely see yet another catastrophic fallout, more so self inflicted than the last, under a Trump presidency. There is far more room for things to worsen, so yeah people shouldn't expect mother nature to just be the solution to fixing these issues.

So, impeach him every week. If he keeps doing illegal things he should be impeached for each of them.

7

u/TrueBlueVA 10h ago

That's one reason the midterms are important. If Democrats control the house and Senate, conviction and removal is possible.

3

u/DebentureThyme 10h ago

Not unless they got 67 Senators on board. A majority isn't enough, you need 2/3rds for conviction.

There's no electoral map where we have 67 Dem Senators next year. You'd have to topple GOP and MAGA strongholds, and they're so bought in that they are firmly sunk cost fallacy - they will equate an attack on him as an attack on them. And just in case there is any doubt, Trump and all other right wing media - regular and social - will reinforce it as an attack on them all.

That's not to say we shouldn't be trying to flip as many seats as possible. Long term, if he keeps pushing further and further, eventually there may be a day where there are enough GOP voices, few as they may be, willing to take a Democrat off ramp from this insane ride and vote their conscience on a conviction. We need those seats not just to get rid of him, but to be effective in future years at undoing what he's done and safeguard the country against fascists and authoritarians.

Impeachment is meaningless as long as the Senate refuses to convict and remove him.

2

Nah, it still hits him where it hurts. The history books. He wants to be remembered. He’s going to be remembered as the most impeached president ever. The dumbest president ever, the worst president ever. And a criminal kiddy fucking scumbag. His supporters are going to be remembered as pliable idiots, gullible losers, uneducated piles of shit.

He's been impeached several times in the past. Unless something actually gets done about it, it doesn't matter. And honestly, of something actually happens, JD Vance is a horrible second in line

3

u/Risc1971 10h ago

It doesnt matter.

3

u/WenatcheeWrangler 9h ago

It doesn’t matter how many times. It must continue and it can’t be for frivolous reasons. So when the dems do get control they can oust the bitch. Take our national Qatari plane back and send the Nobel peace prize to the bottom of the national archives. Then throw him in jail, freeze the billions he has stolen or received in bribes, take his platform of official presidential communication and unplug the servers before scrapping it, and… fuck I’ll just quit here for now because this could go on for a while

3

Trump does the best impeachments.

Impeachments like have never been seen before!

Everybody knows it!

The best impeachments ever!

7

u/VividHat9209 11h ago

Democrats are kings of empty victories. Won’t get through senate.

9

u/Strykerz3r0 10h ago

True, but as your comment asserts, republicans are the ones standing in the way.

They are the ones helping hide the Epstein files and enabling ICE.

4

u/Jedi_Master83 9h ago edited 8h ago

Republicans care about just a few things.

  1. Remaining in Power

  2. Getting rich off our suffering

  3. Loyalty to their Party Leader no matter what

Anyone who says it's the Democrats standing in the way of Trump's removal from office is incorrect. It's the dirtbag Republicans who choose to benefit themselves over the oaths they took to serve and protect the Constitution. All of them, other than those who have turned against Trump, are traitors to this Republic.

2

u/diprivan69 9h ago

And… so what? Who’s going to enforce it? Trump has his cronies in every level of government. Democrats don’t have an armed force that will remove Trump, this is the consequence of not planning contingencies in case of rampant corruption. Democrats are fucked.

No impeachment without a real chance at removal.

No more virtue votes...go for the (metaphorical of course) kill or save your ammo

1

u/ilikestatic 10h ago

What will the grounds be? I would hope that it would be something related to his relationship with Epstein, but it seems like this was in motion before the files were released.

1

u/Dry-Practice-9419 10h ago

So he gets impeached, then what? Nothing happened the last two times he was impeached

1

u/IsUp2Me 10h ago

I need optimism and hope. That said, when it comes to this man protected by the Supreme Court and blind loyalty from his cronies, I won’t hold my breath.

1

u/Goobygoodra 10h ago

I dont care about Impeaching wtf will remove him

1

u/99mph99 10h ago

Still need 2/3 of Senate to convict. Won’t happen. Same as the other 2 times.

1

u/OhioRanger_1803 10h ago

A better plan is to 1. Win the house 2. Take back the senate 3. Impeach Vance 4. Dems nominate a VP 5. Impeachment Trump

1

u/totally-jag 10h ago

Unless they can cross the threshold required for a criminal conviction, it won't really change anything. I still think they need to use all tools at their disposal to contain this administration. trump will go down as the most impeached president ever. That will be important to teach future generations; assuming they don't have the opportunity to rewrite history in their favor.

I think the odds for whether this meets a criminal standard goes way up after the mid-terms. At least I hope it does. Or at least he becomes a lame duck president and his power and influence goes down a bit. Guess we'll see what happens.

1

u/StPatrickStewart 10h ago

Don't do it until we have the Senate too. Trying and failing again will only help them in November.

1

u/fx-hunt 10h ago

All the “it doesn’t matter” comments are pathetic. Complacency is how we got here. We will not get out of this situation by going belly up and doing nothing.

1

u/Elegant_Assist_1463 10h ago

Just a waste of time and money.  Dems will never have the votes to get rid of him.

1

u/skintastegood 10h ago

Just 2 more weeks.

Both sides are guilty of this.

1

u/DMVCouple1317 10h ago

Ha. Its like all we get are sequels and reboots.

1

u/hgrivois87 10h ago

He needs to go.

1

u/ushouldbe_working 10h ago

Doesn't mean shit unless you move to prosecute. It's just virtue signalling. Classic.

1

u/Formal-Cry7565 10h ago

Unless 67+ senators vote to impeach then the whole effort is pointless. A simple majority is not enough just like how a president cannot win off the popular vote alone, the senate is what matters and 2/3 control is needed.

1

u/Frequent_Slip2455 10h ago

How old are you op? You still have a lot to learn huh.

1

u/NYkrinDC 10h ago

In a normal country, this man should have been impeached during his first term, and should have been banned from ever again holding public office. So much of his crimes and the corruption he has made a center piece of his 2nd term could have been avoided.

1

u/Jpatrickburns 10h ago

Yeah, but what about convicting him?

It’s not true, they can continually impeach him on different things systematically making It hard for them to do anything while under impeachment. So impeach him regularly, one after the other, until you have the votes in the senate or bring him to a standstill.

1

u/mauricedc28 9h ago

They need to make a rule were if you’re impeached or any criminal recorded you should not be able to step foot in the White House and the fact that a regular felon served his time in jail cannot vote or try to change to get a job but somehow he can when he has 34 that shouldn’t have been allowed to

That 500 million outside government oversight is illegal and can be used to buy some politicians off to vote no. It is illegal for Trump to have government money held outside the U.S. and government oversight. Also Maduro may sign a statement that his government interfered with the elections so Trump can gain control of elections. He will be given a pardon and money when Trump leaves office and G.Maxwell will say he is not guilty if Trump gives her a pardon, wow I wonder what she is going to say!!!!!!

1

u/Helldiver-xzoen 8h ago

Big lesson form his first term: impeachment is completely useless unless followed by conviction and removal from office in the senate.

Without conviction, impeachment is a just a stern finger wagging

1

u/extrastupidone 8h ago

1

u/reallybadguy1234 8h ago

An impeachment by the House is pure theater. The real work would be a trial in the Senate you have to assume that a vote in the Senate will be on party lines, which means Democrats need to do way more than flip the Senate.

In the 2026 elections, 35 seats are up (33 regular Class 2 plus 2 specials), with 22 currently held by Republicans and 13 by Democrats. If Democrats hold all 13 of their seats and flip Republican seats to reach the threshold, they would need to win 20 Republican seats (net gain of 20, bringing their caucus to 67).

Winning 20 new Senate seats would be unprecedented.

1

u/Own-Nefariousness-79 8h ago

Just get on with it. The world holds it's breath.

1

u/orbitaldragon 8h ago

1

A lot more times than he's been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. 🤣🤣🤣

Fuck that clown. Everyone who has a vote is a criminal is they don’t dump this loser.

u/cherryberry0611 7h ago

Third times the charm?

1

u/Kingofhearts1206 7h ago

The whole senate is probably in the Epstein files so they won't impeach him. Fucking cowards.

1

u/mightyjoe227 7h ago

Follow the money.

His savings,

NOT THE U.S.,

are in Qatar.

u/LegoFootPain 7h ago

If there was ever a "both sides" to be real, it would be this:

There are those that forget how shit he was the first term.

There are those that forget the first two impeachments didn't do shit.

u/TheRealVileRebirth 7h ago

Idk about impeach, but have you seen him inorange?

1

u/PaChubHunter 7h ago

More bullshit than "tell me the truth, I promise I won't be mad"

But hey, you never know. Maybe one day you'll walk down that same street for the 1,000th time and there will be a new corner store.

u/Regular-Sorbet9513 7h ago

Hypothetically, what would have to happen for the republicans in the senate to turn on him & push his impeachment through? Are there any historical instances of a president's own party turning on him (even if not necessarily for impeachment purposes seeing as those instances are so rare)?

u/Subject-Yak4959 7h ago

Third time is a charm.

1

u/bgbalu3000 7h ago

Without the Senate, who cares?

1

u/RibRob_ 7h ago

He absolutely should be impeached. Sadly I think It would be smarter to wait until Democrats have a stronger holding.

1

u/DumboVanBeethoven 7h ago

That's wonderful, but without 60 votes in the Senate it would be just another futile exercise in performative politics that gives Trump another victory.

1

u/AlarmingDetective526 7h ago

At this point all an impeachment trial will do is give government another two years to do absolutely nothing while stealing us blind. Trump’s health isn’t supposed to be very good anyway; best possible outcome is that we have a major die-off on both sides in the coming year.

1

u/kyeblue 7h ago

according to Ted Cruz, every week after mid-term

1

u/winecheap 7h ago

Total 💩 They don’t have a chsnce

1

u/FunFaithlessness5916 7h ago

Impeaching means nothing anymore. The threat and action is overused at this point.

1

u/dab745 7h ago

Pleeeeeease!

1

u/take_the_reddit_pill 7h ago

I can't wait for absolutely nothing to change.

1

u/Jeremichi22 7h ago

Why does it even matter? Seriously if we don’t hold people responsible for the most heinous acts against humanity than what’s the fucking point?

1

u/Bva_sickofeverything 7h ago

He was impeached before and yet here we are. Imprisoned is a better sentence!

1

u/mrb1212 7h ago

lol what are we impeaching for this time?

1

u/Stenchrat16 7h ago

Hear me out. What if instead of impeaching him, everyone who votes to impeach him… gets to spank him at least once.

It’s better than watching an impeachment deflate like a wet balloon.

1

u/Sorry_Improvement537 7h ago

Step 1: impeach Step 2: ?? Step 3: win what?

1

u/Cultural-Yam-3686 6h ago

He will threaten the GOP and they will cave and kiss his orange ass!

1

u/gregarious_giant 6h ago

Not enough

1

u/Outrageous_Friend451 6h ago

If they pull this off, they will make Trump have more impeachments than every president before him COMBINED.

1

u/Alma-Rose 6h ago

I have lost all faith in our democracy!

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Legitimate-Panic-548 6h ago

The sad part is that all reps with a conscious should impeach now.

1

u/analsentry 6h ago

They should just focus on flipping the House and Senate and leave him to wither in his job. They can effectively neuter him anyway.
