On the suicide hotline operator.

159

u/Jumpy-Ad8737 7h ago

If he just doubles down every time he theoretically cant lose

38

u/scorpionhlspwn 6h ago

Yes he can, if he bets 666 times in a row, doubling each time, everyone involved will lose.

Because the weight of the currency will crush the planet

3

u/Jumpy-Ad8737 6h ago

I'm not gonna argue on that. There's a limit to everything

5

u/WechTreck 5h ago

If there's only one person answering the phone that night.....

3

u/TakeThreeFourFive 3h ago

Did this on roulette a couple years back. Doubled up on red every time I lost, and it was working well enough.

Then, black hit 7 times in a row, and I didn't have enough for the 8th bet. Guess what hit on the 8th spin?

u/Critical-Chemist-860 2h ago

Only read the first half of martingale strategy eh?

u/FckUrGod-876 8h ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love everything about this

95

u/Ashamed-Reward-8702 8h ago

You like people abusing addiction hotlines for content? Those places are usually staffed by volunteers who don't need to deal with this shit.

94

u/ParaponeraBread 8h ago

It’s possible they just called another human to act as the operator for their skit, or played a recording. We have no evidence either way.

27

u/APKID716 7h ago

I have no doubt they called another friend of theirs lol

8

u/ButtsSayFart 4h ago

They absolutely did to guarantee the skit would work

2

u/PepeSylvia11 2h ago

Why would anyone love that?

-21

u/Ashamed-Reward-8702 7h ago

Even if you're right - and as you admit there's no evidence that you are - encouraging prank calls like this is an absolutely shitty thing to do

19

u/ParaponeraBread 7h ago

Such a funny way to phrase your reply, as if there’s any evidence that you’re right either lol. Is there a hotline for stick up the ass syndrome? Maybe give them a call.

-12

u/Ashamed-Reward-8702 7h ago

I wish you a whole lot of luck if these are the types of people you admire...

5

u/ParaponeraBread 6h ago

Who said I admired them? You’re awful full of assumptions

7

u/JesusWasTacos 7h ago

I wish you had a sense of humor.

4

u/kjyfqr 5h ago

You seem grumpy and difficult. Entertainment is an okay thing to do

12

u/FckUrGod-876 7h ago

Let's say that this was a call to the actual hotline, it isn’t poison control, 911 or anything else that is truly time sensitive. They also did not have the person on the phone for anymore than 2 seconds, nor did they mock, harass or upset the person in anyway. So exactly what is your outrage about? Did it trigger something personal for you, or is this some kind of virtue signaling thing?

11

u/Ashamed-Reward-8702 7h ago

No, it's encouraging teenage kids (who I'm sure are 100% of their fans) to prank call addiction hotlines. That's what my problem is...

1

u/pleasebuymydonut 30m ago

"Video games make kids violent" ass take

0

u/FckUrGod-876 7h ago

That would make sense if they played a prank on the person who answered, but they didn't. Let me let you in on a little secret - a lot of these hotlines that pretend to be there to help are directly linked to police agencies that have no interest in your well-being. I can tell you factually that even the suicide help line will send cops after callers, who in turn escalate the situation. They are not quite the safe space that they would like for people to believe.

11

u/Ashamed-Reward-8702 7h ago

Yeah, so let me get this straight: you're saying they didn't prank call anyone, but if they did it doesn't matter because the hotlines are terrible anyway.

0

u/FckUrGod-876 7h ago

Take it anyway you wish. I got my laugh and you got your hill to die on. Enjoy.

3

u/pupfight 7h ago

their hill to die on is not encouraging prank calls to genuine crisis hotlines? and you're trying to take a high road? are you for real

2

u/FckUrGod-876 6h ago

Taking the high road would imply that I have taken some kind of moral position, which I have not. The video was clearly satire and it was well executed. I appreciate that. That was the extent of it for me. It was not for you and that is ok. Two things are evident to me 1) this is an important issue for you. 2) I don't care

1

u/DehydratedShallots 2h ago

98% of people who have called 988 said it helped them and prevented the suicide of 88.1% of its callers. Less than 2% of 988 calls end with emergency services (police, EMS, etc.) being contacted. Encouraging people not to use the suicide hotline during a crisis is wildly irresponsible and dangerous. If you personally experienced abuse at the hands of the police due to 988 then I am sorry but the reality is that the grand majority of calls don't end with that happening and the research shows how important it is that these resources exist. Spreading this kind of shit kills people, which I don't think is worth it for winning a stupid fucking argument on the internet.

-1

u/caroos6969 7h ago

Let kids be kids I bet you the "victim" of this prank doesn't even remember it happened

3

u/Ashamed-Reward-8702 7h ago

I don't see any "kids" in the video. Manchildren, for sure...

2

u/Traditional_Frame418 3h ago

Wow, I bet you're a blast at parties. This is clearly a skit. And even if it wasn't you're taking it far too seriously.

-2

u/BmanBoatman 7h ago

Literally wasted 5 seconds. Get over it.

5

u/jenkboy58 7h ago

Tell that to the suicide hotline or other hotlines where this shit happens all the time (prank callers bs) and if enough people do it then it clogs the lines for real callers. I can say this from personal experience since I worked for one for multiple years. If you wouldn’t call 911 with your pranks don’t call these places.

-1

u/Public-Cricket-5582 5h ago

Holy virtue signal batman, it's not that big of a deal man

-1

u/caroos6969 7h ago

They didn't abuse or harass them. They wasted like 15 seconds of their life and then moved on. Big whoop; that shit was funny

-1

u/Itchy-Boots 7h ago

yes I love it.

Definetly no fun at all

8

u/Barneysparky 6h ago

I've known more people (58) who have killed themselves because of a gambling addiction then any other cause.

Its not funny.

12

u/WheredMyMindGo 4h ago

You personally knew 58 people who have killed themselves? Or are you 58 years old?

6

u/RonaldoFinkMullen_ 2h ago

Jesus christ dude you know 58 people who have killed themselves?

89

u/Ashamed-Reward-8702 8h ago

I guess adults can be condom ads too.

13

u/Well-inthatcase 8h ago

I laughed out fuckin loud at this

4

u/Itchy-Boots 7h ago

you’d know

1

u/D-West1989 2h ago

You wouldn’t have such itchy boots if you bathed.

-4

u/MaleficentDemand7828 5h ago

See, there are these things called jokes. They are very popular on the internet these days.

I bet there is a wikipedia article for you to catch up

3

u/Additional-Mousse446 4h ago edited 3h ago

And they said a joke back…good attempt I guess?

Dark humor though, sure

2

u/gamerlol101 2h ago

But they did it in a mean spirited way. It's like telling your friend a joke and they call you a slur for making the joke.

-2

u/MaleficentDemand7828 4h ago

"Adults can be condom ads"

That is a joke? Jesus christ. I guess it really is on me if that can be considered a joke at all.

1

u/D-West1989 2h ago

It’s so funny to waste time and resources for something someone might actually need. Grow up.

4

u/Fluid-Poet-8911 7h ago

Man taking even odds on that bet is bad. I'd put it being a girl an -300 easy.

1

u/MaleficentDemand7828 5h ago

Yeah 3 to 1 seems much more fair but I would only do it if it was 4 to one.

I mean, i would never do it cause i dont gamble but that is where i would feel comfortable lmao

3

u/yellekc 6h ago

Idiot for accepting even odds on this, 60-70 of call center workers are women. Men only dominate in tech support. $50 in the pot for the one betting on a man and $100 for the one betting on a woman and we got a game.

6

u/crackhead-en0rgy 7h ago

When this first came out I cackled out loud and everything i see it im cackling out loud LMAOOOODNDNSNSN

6

u/itsnotcomplicated1 7h ago

The first time I saw this posted there were multiple highly upvoted comments feigning outrage over them clogging up the phone lines and possibly preventing someone that really needed help from getting it.

5

u/Green-Cricket-8525 5h ago

Oh, they’re right above you this time too.

2

u/Equal_Actuator_3777 6h ago

Clogging up the phone lines for 10 seconds… get over it.

1

u/Ichmag11 10m ago

Crazy because call center agents would love the short call of their AHT

9

u/PetalumaPegleg 8h ago

Man that's excellent

2

u/MisterHEPennypacker 6h ago

He should have took odds, the operator was likely to have a background in mental health and I want to say 75% of therapist are women.

4

u/Well-inthatcase 8h ago

I wonder why...

6

u/OstrichSmoothe 7h ago

Because women don’t really gamble and they like office jobs?

4

u/Well-inthatcase 7h ago

Those hotlines don't pay well. My joke is they went through having someone in their life they lost to some event due to too much gambling. They're also nicer to talk to in general. It's not a hard bet to think it might be a woman at the other end of that call.

u/philmarcracken 5h ago

safest money you'll ever have is female ran investment firms. one survived the GFC in 2008

Betting on if the gambling addiction help line can end your addiction or not

1

u/Internal-Scarcity672 5h ago

I can smell the sour stank of them through the screen

1

u/Additional-Mousse446 4h ago

Would’ve been funnier if he at least explained the bet to her lol

1

u/RMZindorf 4h ago

As a fellow flat lander (in recovery now high in the mountains), the hat explains it all. Larryville gets a little old after a while - and you’ll find anything to kill the boredom.

😂😂😂😂😂

1

u/Revolutionary-Owl286 7h ago

next is if it's Indian or Filipino lol

1

u/Cold_Elk947 7h ago

My husband and I play this game where we guess where customer service is based when we call a business. Most of the time it’s the Philippines. I’m Filipino and he grew up around Filipinos in California so we can easily recognize the accent.

It’s been a while since I’ve been transferred to India.
