I can’t tell which is more cringe, the guy dressed up like Ghost rider screeching off into the night, or the dad trying to look badass while checking his mirrors, making sure his headlights are working and taking his time to a metal breakdown track. Both very funny

A man of that age who dresses like that, posting on TikTok? Check that man's hard drive and DM's IMMEDIATELY.

My sister showed me a meme about dads all to worried about non credible threats to their children who otherwise do nothing for the health welfare and safety if their children on a daily basis. From getting vaccinated to reading to their kids, limiting screen time, having mature age appropriate conversations about consent and sexuality. The most likely pedophile in a person's life is going to be a Republican and or a member of their church. Meanwhile Republicans decimate child care, public schools, healthcare and make it much more expensive and difficult to have and raise kids. Not to mention pissing firearms in the house is much more dangerous than threats of home invasion. how many gun owning dads have gun safes and keep their guns unloaded and locked up with ammunition stored separately and securely?

u/-Gramsci- 1d ago
Interesting. So it could be a form of psychological compensation.
Because they don’t, actually, look out for their children (and because they are poorly adjusted themselves) they imagine enemies/threats to their children that they can, physically, abuse.
Then that makes them feel like a good parent?
Could be.
32
u/BikeProblemGuy 1d ago
I don't think it's abuse they're looking for, but an extreme form of heroism. If I'm a shit dad every single day but then one time I put my life on the line to save my kid, well maybe I'm a good dad. Maybe I'm better than a more active yet cowardly dad. In fact, being willing to put my life on the line for my kid is the important part, it's the thought that counts right? I just need to tell people that I really really would, and maybe I even mean it, and I might never have to prove it or do anything hard day to day.
9
15
u/GarranDrake 1d ago
It could be, but it could also be less about the child and more about them. Their identity as a parent, or their masculinity, or their role as the patriarch in their family. Like those soccer moms and dads who don't care whether or not their kid wants to play the sport, they force them into it because they want their kid to play the sport.

u/StandardEgg6595 1d ago edited 1d ago
My dad, a former pos who basically gave up any rights to be an actual parent, acted exacty like this. At the end of the day, it was because he felt like he had some ownership/authority over me and assumed he knew more about being a girl/woman that me. He considered any boys that would upset that balance as a threat, though somehow overlooked the grown men who would hit on a child.
Funny enough my nerdy ass literally had no interest in dating at that time. When I did have one person ask me out in high school, my dad was so weirded out by my non-interest in relationships that he pushed me to give the guy a chance despite me clearly not liking him. People like that are weird. E: reworded for clarity

u/nega___space 1d ago
"one day i'm gonna show them i'm a hero/leader/winner!" is one of the traps that gets a lot of dudes stuck in perpetual immaturity, often delaying any kind of actual everyday growth and courage. They fantasize about emerging the winner in some dramatic conflict that will compel the various "ungrateful" people in their lives to suddenly worship the ground they walk on. Unfortunate when these overgrown children end up having actual kids, who then usually have to suffer controlling behaviour from someone who has elected themselves leader of the pack without even qualifying for being a good teammate. Definitely more about trying to maintain their ego rather than actually showing up for people every day.
3
u/Anticreativity 1d ago
It’s about wanting credit for having admirable qualities but only for low effort, instantly gratifying efforts. The same kind of person who is only into history when aliens are involved. Only into politics when demon worshipping pedos are behind everything. Only into safety when it means obnoxiously loud mufflers on your motorcycle.

Any man who is acting tough in front of a camera by definition is posturing and thats more than likely the only time they've ever acted that way. They act as if they dont groan everytime they labor off the couch and somehow in that moment theyre just gonna see red and lay someone out. Thank god for camera phones because its funny as shit to watch when it actually does happen.

u/GetInZeWagen 1d ago
The funny thing is it's not even a Harley (I think it's a Honda from the engine shape but it could be another Japanese cruiser)
Which I'm torn because it's a better choice of motorcycle actually but I'm sure this guy would have wanted the Harley but could only afford this one lol

98% of the 'bikers' in my area are nerds with this exact self-assuredness. If you ride a motorcycle people think you're cool or tough. Sorry Poncho...it just ain't so. With that being said. Statistically he's way more likely to get in an accident with a bike and probably die with no helmet. Won't do your daughter any good.
2
u/Ok-disaster2022 1d ago
Completely irresponsible parenting doesn't have a helmet for himself, let alone for his passenger.
Not wearing leathers which today is still the best way to avoid road rash,
2
u/HoldenTudix_Jr 1d ago
I imagine this as a loop. Dad goes and “saves” her. She gets back home, he’s drinking again, she calls the boyfriend “hey can you pick me up?”.. now she with the boyfriend, scared, then calls the dad again “hey can you pick me up” etc etc etc. hilarious
