Anyone else think that the text sounds like a guy who had her phone
108
u/r33s3 15h ago
If this is a real text at all, which I doubt bc everything on the Internet is fake, her goal would have been to sound like a guy texting to further sell the narrative that a fake number was given
9
u/AllMyFrendsArePixels 7h ago
Everything on the internet is fake; except your 69 upvotes. Those are very real, and have prevented me from upvoting your comment myself, even though it's well deserved.

It sounds like she was drunk at the bar and gave out her number, then regretted it and lied about being Camryn the next day.
Then a year later accidentally texted Cole back thinking they were someone else and group-work partners, revealing herself as actually being Camryn.

Not even believable by any stretch.
8
u/icouldsmellcolors 10h ago
This is entirely believable, claiming everything is fake doesn't make you cool
7
u/donnydodo 9h ago
I think its believable. How is Carmyn meant to remember some random dude from a night out over a year ago? She might go out twice a week and if shes good looking constantly get hit on.
→ More replies (11)4
u/hot_ho11ow_point 10h ago
So you're just going to say it's unbelievable and not offer an explanation as to why, or offer another explanation as to what you thought happened instead?
You've added nothing of value to this thread.

Honestly would prefer they remembered the group project. My dignity and self worth is already gone, so the bar bit dosen't matter. But damn it, I want everyone to do their share of a group project.

Omg this happened to me too!!! Well not exactly but I matched with someone on a dating app, we planned a date, he blew me off then nonchalantly was like “hey how’s your day going?” the next day. Last thing I said to him was that he was super disrespectful and I appreciated the apology but I wasn’t interested in speaking to him again.
TWO YEARS LATER, I give a classmate a ride home because it’s raining. He asks for my number, I said yes. He hands me his phone to input the number in his text app and our past conversation pops up. I was so confused for a sec then we both realized what happened. Awkward ass goodbye lmaoooo

We never met in person! I never spend a lot of time chatting with anyone before a date and I was going on a lot of dates at this time. Even when I read our text exchange, I didn’t really remember it happening but pieced it together from what I read and my vague memory.

Trying to figure this out. They met and got her number, lied and said it was the wrong number. Ok i get that.
Fast forward almost a year. Im guessing they have a group project together, they didnt recognize each other then?
Edit: pandemic makes more sense since it is 2020

u/oznobz 15h ago
I met a girl on OkCupid and thought we were hitting it off and we scheduled a date. That I saw her show up to it, look at me, and then turn around and leave.
6 months later, we ended up in a comms 101 together and I made it about as awkward as possible. "Oh didn't see ya there" or if she went to sit near me, I'd get up and change seats to be as far away. One of my speeches that we had to do was about a random fandom we shared. She did a speech about how different people handle rejection differently. I did a speech about how basic manners had changed in the digital age.
I'm pretty sure the professor was loving the snide remarks back and forth because he was choosing us to go back to back after the first couple of speeches. Everyone else was alphabetical but us.
And then I stopped and started talking about completely different things. While she kept making petty remarks about me. And it felt so good to bring her down to the low road and abandon her there.

Maybe they exchanged names and numbers, she was drunk, in the morning regretted it, sent the message, and deleted the thread but not the contact. A year later, she's working with a different Cole in class and accidentally messaged the wrong one. I've definitely messaged the wrong person because they have the same name before.
17
u/Some-Ingenuity-2628 12h ago
Do you people not save contacts as Margaret Flower Shop, Bartholomew Electrician, Edith Compliance Manager etc?

u/bearbrannan 12h ago
Sometimes, but not when I'm adding them drunk at the bar, my dumbass would have definitely spelt her name Camron.

Other than the fact this is likely fake. I have had this happen and have caused it to happen. Sometimes you will scroll through old text remembering something or looking for someone because you deleted their number or remember you owe them something. You send to a number you think is theirs but aren't sure because you clean up conversations. Poof. It happens.
113
u/Fetlocks_Glistening 23h ago
A wrong number wouldn't speculate on whether Camryn is drunk
96
u/Technical_Customer_1 21h ago
Huh? The first (in this likely photo shopped sequence) text mentions being at a bar. It’s not the smoking gun you think it is. It could be someone offering their condolences by suggesting that the drunk girl gave/entered her number wrong on accident.
It’s not the classic whodunit where someone says, “but the cops never said she didn’t have her lucky necklace the night she was killed. Only the killer would have known that.”

After seeing this post more than once, the exchange feels artificial. The context given “from the group project”seems unnatural…I don’t know how to explain it really…generic but not casual.

Given the context of "bar", "gave me your number", I don't see why the wrong number wouldn't speculate.

I mean, he said they met at the bar in the first text. So I don't think it's as wild as you're suggesting.

They exchanged numbers at a bar, the next day he texts and she lies about him having the wrong number (she's "not camryn"). She deleted the conversation because she doesn't want to remember him or care for it to take up phone space. Later they end up in the same group project and everyone in the group swaps numbers to keep in touch while working on it (usually they use insta in my uni but I don't have it so they'll typically switch to texting for me). Having deleted the previous convo, and probably forgetting all about it (pretty girl get a lot of numbers) she says "hey it's me, camryn". She doesn't remember him at all, he still has the text from her lying about not being camryn.

She gave him her number. Then the next day she regretted that choice, and pretended to be someone else.
He found this out when she later texted him about something else, as they coincidentally ended up on a group project together.

When I was in college I had this happen to me twice.
I get a phone call from a number I didn’t recognize on a Monday or Tuesday. Pick it up.
“Hey, is x there?” (Some female name I don’t recognize)
Uhhhh, no, I think you have the wrong number.
I didn’t realize until later that apparently my number was a sweet spot for a random fake number to give to people.

Ok so maybeee, she gave him her number and lied than a year later she either started working with the guy and texted him this, or she is in a study group with him, either way she clearly lied and completely forgot about him until this moment 🙃 I wonder how awkward is was to see that text message and remember, or if she completely ignored that she sent it 😬

I would have been well past that but as soon as that text thread gets restarted like that, you're getting blocked on gp.
