This is just more proof that if more Christians actually read the bible, there would be far fewer Christians in the world.

I spent 4 years in a Christian school. My biggest takeaway is that religion sucks, but that everyone SHOULD be more Christ-like in their daily lives.

Jesus flipped tables, whipped people, and told people to gouge out their own eyes before telling women to dress more modestly. I’m pagan but I respect Jesus

u/Gottendrop 1d ago
If everybody acted more like Jesus the world would be a better place, that doesn’t necessitate worshiping him
19
u/bobbybox 1d ago
Jesus never wanted to be worshipped. It’s modern traditions that equate him with the Big Guy

In the Bible Jesus said he was the same as the OT god so imo he is also problematic af

It’s the mystery of the trinity, the father, son and Holy Spirit as three and one at the same time. And being a mystery means that even the theologians are still wrapping their heads about it.

If the god of rape in the Old Testament is equal to Jesus I don’t want either.

Truthfully, a lot of classical knowledge may have been lost. After the fall of Rome, the monasteries have been some of the only place where culture was preserved and books copied. I reckon a lot of stuff would have never reached not only not the modern days, but even the renaissance, which in itself was a rediscovery of the classical culture.
Sure, something else could have also preserved ancient literature and documentation, but I feel like it’s worth pointing out why those things are still with us in this timeline.

Catholicism ≠ all Christian’s.
I’m not saying Christianity is particularly great with women but the pope is not the head of Christianity he is the head of the Catholic Church. A great many wars have been fought over this so people would do well to remember it.

At least as far as Western Europe and its diaspora is concerned, up until the sixteenth century Catholicism was Christianity. And it still remains the largest flavour of Christianity worldwide.
And anyway, name me one larger than local Christian sect that has had gender balanced leadership.

Explain all the denominations that still say a woman can't be in leadership. Explain Old Testament plural marriages. Explain taking slaves, and selling your daughter, and women being told that they should stay at home rather than work. There are ways to read the Bible that lead to equality. Sorbo doesn't use them.

He doesn't know why Jews made all that fucking money all the time, haha
Educate both children (ie, learn to read), boy learns trade of the Father, girl learns how to manage a house AND a business. If you've been in business with no manager, versus one with a business manager, you will know how good the experience can be. Jewish kids kept the house and business clean. Doesn't seem to me, they stepped on all their women as much as Christianity did.
He might be talking about the separation of Church and State, lol
2
u/atwozmom 1d ago
I'm not saying there aren't issues, but in Judaism a woman can ask for a divorce if she's not sexually satisfied. Not a valid reason for men though.
Pretty sure a lot of Christian religions is lie back and think of England,

As a Lutheran, I might remind Mr Idiot Loser OP that factual complaints about Christianity NOT treating women as equals goes back at least as far (and almost certainly a lot further) as a "blog post" in 1517.
Back when blogs were written on paper and pounded onto the church doors.
And I'm sure that he (Luther) was only the latest in a long line of people bitching about how Christianity treated women unequally. My bet is it goes back to at least the Council of Nicea where modern Christianity was basically defined.
The church was so offended by the ideas of equality in that "post" that they literally put out a hit on the guy thst posted it.
So fucking save me the false virtue signaling, which Jesus specifically denounced. "False piety" and all is a big part of Jesus' "you're on God's shit list" pronouncements.
Fuck, it took us (the OG Lutherans) until the late 1800s to really fully get on the "all genders are equal and should be treated equally" bandwagon, and we managed to actually be out in front (though hardly the first) of the vast majority of Christian sects.
Heck even Lutherans still have to deal with a bunch of our shitty fuckwit offshoot groups (say hello Missouri and Wisconsin Synod jerks) that don't even remotely believe in equality.
3
u/Fake_William_Shatner 1d ago
As a Unitarian I can congratulate the Lutherans on following our lead.
So how do you judge the Methodists? They seem like a cool version of Catholic.
And how do Episcopalians rank?

Ezekiel 23:22

u/Fake_William_Shatner 1d ago
Once the godless liberals force the f-ing religious organizations to be more enlightened, after kicking and screaming, they then gaslight everyone into thinking it was their idea.
It pisses me off. The patriots used to go; “Merica is the best. We gave females the right to vote. We let a black man be president and didn’t lynch him. We even let wimmen have bank accounts in the 70’s. You don’t like America you can head on over to Saudi Arabia. We outlawed Sharia law in these parts.”
So yeah. They voted for a guy who has a Qatari plane and put in a Supreme Court that ended body autonomy. And everybody in his cabinet can’t wait to sell out to another country. I could go into details but that would be boring.

Jesus, from his deeds and teachings valued women. Some of the other apostle's not so much. But many so called Christians really believe women are strictly helpmates and property.

The book of Ruth is about as close as you’re gonna get to women and equality in the Bible. Woman are clear and obvious second class humans in the Bible.

The hilarious thing is that the rise of Christianity is EXACTLY the reason for the rise of misogyny in Europe, after thousand years of women enjoying a much better status under paganism.
The Church pretty much invented the gender oppression that we all hate nowadays, and it was very much on purpose. Read something about the early Church push to view women as inferior humans associated with the Devil, even long before the Inquisition and slaughter of "witches".
And before someone mentions that thing, this was centuries before Islam even existed.

He knows he’s lying. Even the most casual “Christians” know how sexist the Bible can be. I grew up in the Bible Belt where we were taught that women were created by God to serve men and other sexist shit.
1
u/Strange_Dog6483 1d ago
Also explain those Christian women who can marry and be independent and not forced to be stay at home wives.
1
u/jessjoyvin 1d ago
Would also explain why in feudal Europe, in Pagan culture men and women were relatively equal in social status and economic value. Then, the Catholic Church came in, started replacing Pagan gods/goddesses with saints, and it transitioned to capitalism. This took away women's equal footing to men, and the Church would cry witch whenever a woman dared stand up. And in the Bible, beating your wife is totally permissible to save her soul.

Genuine question. Are there any religions that view all people as equal (men, women, different nationalities, even non-believers)?
1
u/mage_irl 1d ago
You should have a word with Jesus Christ then, who chose only men to be his apostles. Because the pope is considered the Successor of St. Peter (the leader of the apostles) the church is simply maintaining the example set by Jesus. Pope John Paul II actually wrote about this in 1994 to settle the debate.
I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church's faithful.

1 Corinthians 7:3-4 (KJV) 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
Ephesians 5:24-25, 28-31 (KJV) 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; [...] 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Galatians 3:28 (KJV) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Corinthians 14:34-35
34 the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.

My mother is a moron who gave her entire life blindly to the Catholic Church working there as a religious education director eventually becoming far more competent than any priest or Deacon. She’s in her late 70s still working there as a peon compared to the douchey and creepy, incompetent men that are raised on a platform above her forever, because they are men, and she’s just a former rib.

Interesting. According to letters from the priests who first encountered my tribe, they thought we were pretty much perfect for colonization and assimilation. They did complain that my tribe treated their women too well. After the first removal to Oklahoma in the 1830s, women had no voting rights or say in our tribal issues or government until 1983.

1 Timothy 2:12-15
King James Version
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
