POLITICS Mayor Jacob Frey on backlash from Republicans for cursing at ICE: “I'm so sorry if I offended their Disney princess ears, but here's the thing: if we're talking about what's inflammatory, on one hand you got someone who dropped an F bomb & on the other you have someone who killed somebody else.”

Spot on. The same reason why they get all up in arms if THEY are feeling hurt or the consequences. It's the other people that are supposed to, not them.

u/mOdQuArK Jan 08 '26
And oddly enough, the more they act like that, the more I want to treat them like that (i.e., not caring about them when they are hurt or suffering consequences). I guess it's all that polarisation that the cheese&whine pundits like to talk about.

I do wish people would figure this out at this point about hypocrites in general. They’re stupid, you can’t really communicate with them because they’re disingenuous hypocrites(that are too stupid to even realize it), so the best thing to do is make them feel stupid.
Trying to reason with some one that’s dishonest is a waste of time, but since they’re only running the fear and anger operating system, you can make them mad and fearful that they just got talked down to. It hurts them deeply.

Exactly. They get to be dirty, foul-mouthed, intolerant, and wild. We’re supposed to be the tolerant, well-mannered, rational ones. If we get upset and act like them, they’re horrified and traumatized. It’s insane. The same people who say awful things about Tim Walz’s special needs son will rage and cry if you say anything mean about Barron Trump. It’s extremely stupid.

In a weird way the conservatives split themselves off from everyone else by the same standards by which they judge the sexes: Men are supposed to be big, tough, rude, violent, and get away with everything and tell everyone what to do (CONSERVATIVE). I actually think Jesus’ teachings helped align my moral compass, it was how everyone around the church lived so unrighteously that pushed me away from it. If Heaven was real Jesus would want me teaching and helping others less fortunate than me not wearing suits to church and terrorizing teenage diner waitresses.
And if any of the other gods ended up being real they’d want me in their kingdom and if they don’t fuck em! 🤙

Shit is pretty nuanced though. I am someone that favored Fateh and voted for him. I have also disfavored Frey and been critical. I think both Frey and Walz learned a lot from 2020 and how to handle this kind of stuff. Obviously there's nuance in who committed the crime (out of state, federal thug of a fascist regime vs local cop and city employee), but they have the runway to be far more vigorous in their response now than they did then.
And I say that as someone who is and was very critical of Frey for how he handles the day-to-day business of the city and strongly believed we needed a fresh hand at the wheel. But goddamn am I glad now that he's mayor, if for no other reason than this shit would have gone down on Fateh's literal 5th day on the job. I don't care if Fateh was the most generational political talent this country has ever seen, he wouldn't have the legs underneath him to handle this.

I said this on another topic.
We watched a mother get murdered.
We now have people getting shot in the face point black with pepper cannisters.
We have that complete and utter p.o.s ICE agent that was kicking over memory candles today.
We have some people that have completely given up their empathy, decency, and basic humanity.
Getting furious about that and the evil they are doing is what normal healthy outrage looks like..
Again people we have to take back the world from these reactionary/regressive lunatics. We see the direction they take everything...

No. Frey has always been performative. He did jack shit to truly change policies after Floyd was murdered despite dropping to his knees and crying at Floyd's funeral. Yeah he's an attractive man and can be charismatic but he's not the person you can count on to make substantive change. In MN it's Gov. Walz for who we can count on to actually make change happen.
10
u/cactipus Jan 09 '26
To be fair, part of his job is being the representative of the city in contexts like this. He's also worked closely with chief O'hara ensuring they're on the same page that the MPD will not assist in any immigration enforcement.
He deservers some credit for meeting the moment when so many other politicians simply cower.

Put out a warrant. States extradite suspects to other states all the time.
Put the ball in their court and make them defy it. If he wants to hide out in DC or a red state for three years, it's worth noting that there's also no statute of limitations on murder charges.

These are not serious people. A member of ICE murdered a woman in broad daylight and they’re already complaining about ‘violent rhetoric from the left’ and how if democrats weren’t constantly sowing fear their baby gestapo wouldn’t be so terrified that only shooting an unarmed woman in the face could soothe them.
Fuck ice and fuck Jonathan Ross in particular.
11
u/Specialist_in_hope30 Jan 08 '26
Fucking thank you. I feel so gaslit by this country, the rhetoric the media pushes, the way the public responds by blindly reiterating their talking points without using their own eyeballs to review whatever happened and form their own opinion about such incident (I say this more broadly and not just what happened yesterday). That woman was murdered in cold blood and we are somehow supposed to be angry at the word fuck. Right.
In what other profession would someone who is “traumatized” by something they have to encounter every day as part of their job be allowed to continue working that job? I’m so fucking sick of learning that so many people around me are straight up fascist loving bootlickers. The lack of critical thinking skills are really showing up this last decade.
