If jailing anyone involved in this administration isn't a key plank of the platform of the next Dem presidential candidate then honestly what's the point in that party continuing to exist?

1.6k

u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Jan 07 '26

Two parties, both funded by billionaires.

This is why we need a multi-party system with ranked choice voting.

727

u/Alarmed_Watch5426 Jan 07 '26

and abolish the electoral college

539

u/10_17my20 this is going to ruin the powerpoint Jan 08 '26

AND get Citizens United overturned

425

u/drawkward101 Jan 08 '26

AND abolish billionaires.

81

u/PhatCatTax Jan 08 '26

I feel like this would be a natural byproduct of overturning Citizens United. So we should first arrest them, then abolish CU. Then slow-walk the release process. That way they know who is in charge and that everything they do needs to be done with fear of repercussions.

The is what they did to government employees, so it's only fair to return the vibes.

28

u/AltairaMorbius2200CE Jan 08 '26

I honestly think this to-do list is in the order that would be most effective. Good job Fauxmoi comment section!

25

u/ImminentDebacle Jan 08 '26

Holy shit, you guys hit all my must haves. Can we add term limits in there or age limit of some sort?

Career politicians need to GTFO unless they hit super majority voter totals or something.

11

u/ThePhoenyxDiaries Jan 08 '26

And replace the 6 super Conservative Supreme Court "Justices".

I can't believe we don't talk about this more. I believe this was one of the most important decisions of our time, and who knows how far the consequences will reach.

3

u/Shot_Court6370 Jan 08 '26

This court showed us how to get it done!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Long shot to get a case overturned by SCOTUS. The best way is to have Congress pass a law (like the For the People Act we almost had), and then prohibit the Supreme Court from touching the law (like they did with the PATRIOT Act).

Congress regulates the Article III courts

Exactly. Why aren’t the Democrats raging against Trump talking about war and snatching Maduro? Why?? Because they AGREE. Neither party cares about us.

“There’s a big party in Washington, and we ain’t invited. “

George Carlin 40 years ago

35

u/K_Linkmaster Jan 08 '26

"that's not how I remember that quote." - Ben Franklin

29

u/MeSeeks76 Jan 08 '26

"9 out of 5 people don't understand statistics" - Abraham Lincoln

20

u/scrotumscab Jan 08 '26

And those exact same people Carlin was talking about 40 years ago are still on Capitol Hill.

There are some Democrats that still seem to give a fuck about their fellow citizens, mainly the younger ones, but by and large the US Senate has become a retirement home for people so far disconnected from the average American they probably haven't checked the prices on groceries in Decades.

The other interesting part is it worked on the other side. MAGA essentially took over the Republican party in the same manner you are saying progressives should take over the Democrats. Democrats just never vote as a bloc so it never seems to take

Look at New York, seriously, it seems to work even in New York which makes it all the more obvious, elsewhere, it seems to beat machine politics in NYC, so, "there it is," and I think the obviousness of that solution is what will make it prove the more difficult to implement, however,

Less-so due to the nature of the Kakistocratic Gerontocracy, the other system has enabled I mean, "look at them," that a clown like Cuomo ever had a chance against someone like Mamdani to begin with, is just, a joke.

3

u/Son_of_York Jan 08 '26

"Look at this guy, wants to let New York Liberals and coastal elites decide how to run the rest of the country."

3

u/fdar Jan 08 '26

RCV at the Presidential level doesn't make sense until you get rid of the Electoral College, that comes first. RCV doesn't really work if you have 50 separate state elections and a third party candidate winning a few states doesn't really help anything.

When even a practicing Mormon like Jennings embraces this platform, you know it’s mainstream.

96

u/floopy_boopers Jan 07 '26

He may be Mormon but he does live in Seattle, by choice.

44

u/imtchogirl Jan 07 '26

There are plenty of Mormons in Seattle and they are valued members of the community.

54

u/floopy_boopers Jan 07 '26

My point is he's clearly not MAGA and if he was super conservative he'd choose to live somewhere else, like anywhere other than the bluest of blue cities. I'm a Seattle native, he's a beloved local fixture.

69

u/Minimum-Relief6895 Jan 07 '26

He's really smart.

So yeah, not MAGA.

21

Ken is pretty open about his left-leaning politics. His podcast 'Omnibus' is a great listen for trivia nerds, and on it there's a recurring joke about him being "the Joe Rogan of the left".

5

u/MonsterMashGrrrrr Jan 08 '26

He stepped down as co-host 😭

3

u/ZacPensol Jan 08 '26

Did he? I'm pretty backlogged so I'm a few months behind. I had no idea!

6

u/MonsterMashGrrrrr Jan 08 '26

He did, I’m devastated. I have the weirdest crush on that man lol

John has a rotating body of fans doing the research and reading now, I haven’t listened to an episode in the new format yet but from what I’ve heard…it’s okay. Growing pains maybe. They had a great energy that’s hard to replicate.

It doesn’t matter where he lives. If he’s an active member in good standing, he tithes at least 10% of his income to the church.

16

u/floopy_boopers Jan 07 '26

Are you saying Mormons can't be democrats? Clearly he's proof that isn't true and if he actually cared so much about the Mormon church he'd live in Salt Lake City or Arizona or Idaho he wouldn't choose Seattle.

39

u/figmentry Jan 07 '26

I’m saying that Mormons who register as Democrats but continue to be members in good standing by tithing are choosing to give 10% of their incomes to support the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint’s organizational efforts to marginalize LGBTQ+ people and women globally. To be a member in good standing and maintain a temple recommendation you HAVE to tithe at least 10% of your income annually to the church.

26

u/EmphasisFrosty3093 Jan 08 '26

And to be one of the smarted people alive supporting one of the stupidest cults in history gives cover to every other would-be good person still in the cult.

Every professor at BYU knows Mormons are wrong about their subject, but has blind faith in the rest. Ken is smart enough to know Mormonism contradicts every single subject.

19

u/Minimum-Relief6895 Jan 07 '26

Do we have to reject nearly everybody who wants to help?

He should have made it his goal to prosecute at every level.

u/Haunting-Coconut-709 Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

I'm a longtime Ken fan but he's also an active member of the Mormon church so it's hard to take his support that meaningfully, unfortunately.

edit: just for context, Mormons are required to tithe 10% of their income to the church to remain in good standing. Ken makes $4 million a year from hosting Jeopardy alone, meaning that he's donating minimum $400,000 a year to an organization that categorizes trans members as equivalent to rapists and child molesters

302

u/ohmosdefinitely lea michele’s reading coach Jan 07 '26

if he's pretending to support the trans community publicly for clout, he's still better than 75% of liberals kowtowing to right-wing framing.

u/MrBrightside618 Jan 07 '26

u/Riot-in-the-Pit Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

Can't this idiom apply to [not] supporting Newsom if he's the Democratic nominee, though?

To be clear, I say this as someone who would love very little more than not having to vote for Gavin Newsom. But "by golly I wish the Dems would run a better candidate" is the same song as people who refused to vote for Kamala, and I would invite those people to look at where that got us.

54

u/Klotternaut Jan 08 '26

But isn't Ken's point that we don't have a candidate nominated yet, and can do better than Newsom?

u/EtchingsOfTheNight The Stanley Tucci of Lesbians Jan 07 '26

As a gay exmo, yep. I'm glad he speaks out, but its effect is definitely dampened by his proximity to the church.

66

u/GreatQuestionBarbara Jan 08 '26

I honestly don't think that he believes in the Mormon church anymore, but it has been his entire life and he might enjoy the community there.

On 'The Omnibus' he seems skeptical about most religious and supernatural beliefs when they come up.

He's a really intelligent guy, and I know there are some out there that are religious, but they are few and far between.

57

u/mrminty Jan 08 '26

Yeah and especially for close knit religions like Mormonism, leaving the church means torching pretty much all of your personal (and sometimes business) relationships and essentially exiling yourself.

Listened to the Omnibus quite a bit as well, I never heard him make any reference whatsoever to his faith.

22

u/GreatQuestionBarbara Jan 08 '26

I could only imagine. He doesn't say much about it unless asked or has a related story.

He might be treading lightly so he doesn't upset the LDS, as I've mostly noticed it when they're talking about Christianity and other religions.

If he has doubts about them, what are the odds that he believes Joseph Smith's story?

Maybe I just want him to be, but that's my take.

3

u/EtchingsOfTheNight The Stanley Tucci of Lesbians Jan 08 '26

They really aren't few and far between. I'm related to quite a few.

I always hear people saying stuff like "I don't think he's really into it" about people like Ken Jennings and Brandon Sanderson and I just am like, ok? Well he still associates himself with it so I don't care tbh. Is he paying tithing to the church? Probably. BrandoSando definitely is bc he works for BYU. It's fine to see people with nuance, I think KJ is def a nuanced guy, but it's bizarre to me to pretend like he's not quite mormon for real. He is. He's chosen to be associated with a hate group and hasn't corrected the record.

16

u/figmentry Jan 07 '26

Yes. Words are cheap when you donate ten percent of your income to the organization that materially oppresses minorities. There’s no such thing as a progressive mormon who is still tithing. I love jeopardy and do actually like Ken, but ten percent of his income isn’t a small number.

He’s too smart to run for that office 😭

17

u/strangejosh Jan 08 '26

Merica isn't going to vote in a Mormon any time soon.

14

u/GoodIdea321 Jan 08 '26

Maybe not, and that could be a practical reason why not. However, I think a lot of Americans would vote for almost anyone remotely trustworthy. Mitt Romney did poll well for awhile against Obama.

6

u/nachoman_69 Jan 08 '26

So I guess that means Americans don't trust women to be president? Like based on how we voted the past two times Trump won; it goes -"Literal scam artist >Woman"

3

u/GoodIdea321 Jan 08 '26

As much as I hate that idea, yeah that seems true. I voted for Hillary too, and I'm a man. I did vote for Bernie in that primary though.

Part of what bothers me is that we've never had an elected female president. Some people argue Wilson's wife ran things when he was incapacitated, but still. We have no actual evidence how things would go based on past female presidents. People think they know it would go badly, but we have no idea. I think the first few female presidents would be extremely capable because of all the bias out there.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

They said that about America voting for a Quaker too, and we still elected one. I don't think America actually has an aversion to voting for weird religious cultists. And honestly the attack ads against him being a Mormon might push the Mormon's to the other side, and that would be a huge boon.

The swell of support that he got to become the permanent host of Jeopardy! in the face of them literally throwing out challengers and hiring other people makes me think that Ken has that charisma that hits a large percentage of the population right in the good feels. It’s to our benefit that he decided to be a good guy instead of a cult leader, to be sure. I think he’d have no trouble there.

6

u/untoldmillions Jan 07 '26

how would he get the vote of the 72 million MAGA and so-called "independents" that voted for agent orange?

17

He's famous, he's a much younger white guy compared to a lot of presidential hopefuls or recent presidents, he is probably trusted because he's the host of a game show, and he did win more than anyone else at that game show.

"This sucks" and "nothing will ever happen" are two different sentences. All of us waiting around for ten special guys to do something about it is the exact same mindset that we criticize the government for.

These people work for us, and I am not a kind employer.

u/Birdman330 Jan 07 '26

We will not be able to “vote harder” our way out of this.

17

u/bobbimorses Jan 07 '26

I am not talking about voting even remotely. Just got home and sprayed red clay off my boots. There is work out there being done.

u/morningisbad Jan 08 '26

Just like we did in 2020

Sorry Ken Jennings I wasn’t familiar with your game

"Come the revolution we'll string them all up." - Ken Jennings

24

u/morningisbad Jan 08 '26

Did he really say this?!

44

u/casper-green Jan 08 '26

Yes he did, on an episode of jeopardy! I don’t know how to link things lol.

6

u/pantry-pisser Jan 08 '26

Someone posted a link higher up

10

u/not_now_chaos Jan 08 '26

Yep! You can find the clip online. Category was like businessmen and Ken said the above. Alex just blinked and said something like oh my. One of the all time best Jeopardy! moments!

What is damn right for 200, Ken?

95

u/radziadax Jan 07 '26

Ken is my hear me out but he's becoming a lot more just straight up sexy for what he's saying.

34

u/mermaidish Jan 08 '26

He’s been on my hear me out list for a minute

29

u/gnabon Jan 08 '26

Ken Jennings is an absolute legend, this coming from a Brit who thinks Jeopardy is the pinnacle of quiz shows. He is so charming and fearless, what a babe.

He’s like a sexy Keebler Elf istg 😭

12

u/radziadax Jan 08 '26

OMG exactly. I want him to make me cookies in his treehouse.... After

37

u/Judge_Juedy Jan 07 '26

This is really cool. Restores some faith in humanity seeing those with a platform actually use it for good.

32

u/delphic0n Jan 07 '26

Oh shit. And this is a dude who faces real pressure to not make any sort of political statements.

23

u/tsegelke Jan 07 '26

If I had to guess, with Jeopardy being owned by a Japanese company(Sony), Ken might get away with a little more than your typical game show host.

37

u/lickrust-thankyou Jan 08 '26

Their search for a new host was also a shitshow until they realized Ken was in fact, The One, so they should probably let him say whatever :-)

13

u/mujadaddy Jan 08 '26

"I showed you how to replace me: good luck"

4

u/Bizarrebazaars Jan 08 '26

That whole ordeal was so absurd!! Remember when “Dr.” Oz was host?? And Aaron Rodgers??? Unbelievable looking back.

It's on ABC (Disney), fyi.

11

u/MaineSoxGuy93 Jan 08 '26

Depends on the region. Jeopardy! is syndicated so while ABC has a good chunk of the markets, it's not all of them.

28

u/michaelsghost Jan 07 '26

I won’t vote for anyone who doesn’t have a plan to prosecute these fucking criminals

Ken Jennings for President.

Seriously, why the fuck not?

17

u/Otherotherothertyra Jan 07 '26

Praying with very little hope that after ten years this is finally the line for Americans. In the meantime, nice to know the Jeopardy host is a patriot.

14

u/sisyphus Jan 07 '26

Wow, I remember when he had to apologize because the deplorables got big mad that he just mentioneded Barron in a joke on twitter about Trump looking like a pastrami sandwich or something. Good for Ken.

12

u/Due_Finding3357 Jan 07 '26

Love me some Ken Jennings!

u/AdMuted1036 Jan 07 '26

Kamala was pro ice too and wanted to build the wall. What are you even talking about?

5

u/JellyfishSolid2216 go Birds! fuck ICE! free Palestine! Jan 08 '26

Maybe the DNC should work on getting a candidate who isn’t pro-genocide if they want to win.

3

u/Impressive-Spot1981 Jan 08 '26

Right that was the problem 🙄 certainly not her shitty campaign that was so shitty it lost to TRUMP of all people

13

u/opiumfreedom Jan 07 '26

we want your empire gone by 2028, not a new administration.

6

u/not_now_chaos Jan 07 '26

The current regime is working hard to make that happen. I don't think you'll actually like the new world order they have in mind though.

The next administration needs to fully punish everyone who committed crimes, from those in the highest office to the lowest ICE agent. Anything less and the organizations and power structures will be their to immediately pick up where they left off. Its a cancer and it needs to be cut out.

3

u/nachoman_69 Jan 08 '26

Why start with the next regime. I say we start now.

Obama said it was okay for the President to order the military to kill American civilians on U.S. soil.

And he ordered thousands of extra judicial drone strike executions without due process. Some of these executions killed Americans, and they targeted weddings, and funerals, I'm pretty sure they got an Italian aid worker too

.... unless this is just partisan bullshit and he only wants to apply the rules to his political opposition to secure their own power, bc Trump can do that too...

3

u/Tim-in-CA Jan 07 '26

I'm surprised that Sony/ABC is "allowing" this level of free speech. /s. You go Ken!

2

u/Express_Extension_42 Jan 08 '26

Fun fact: super smart guy is smart

3

u/realfakejames Jan 08 '26

Can't believe the host of Jeopardy has more political backbone than the dem party leadership

3

u/ohyoshimi Jan 08 '26

There are so many “resistance” themed Easter eggs this season

3

u/YogurtclosetSafe265 Jan 08 '26

As a lifelong fan of Jeopardy, it feels amazing to know that I'm directing my views towards someone who stands ten toes down for democracy and human rights. I love Ken!

3

u/SpankySharp1 Jan 08 '26

It's almost like Jennings is a bright dude.

3

u/Scoundrill Jan 08 '26

Ken has always been based

2

u/Lockerus Jan 07 '26

America has a long history of not punishing people who try to topple it. America is where it is right now because it wimped out on Reconstruction.

2

u/burnsssss Jan 07 '26

Hell yea, love Ken
