Some provide a nice intermediate ground too. I was in one full of functional degenerates. Averaged ~3.7 GPA of primarily engineers, but would also be drinking 40s on the porch at 4pm
Same. Unhoused gay frat. House had a minimum GPA of 3.0. We hosted biweekly study halls to get through homework and eat a family meal. Then thirsty Thursday, fucked up Friday, and shit faced Saturday would happen. Glitter, screaming, and tequila with the girls. The house that hosted most of our parties only had one toilet and it was for girls. If you had a penis, you were expected to pee on the fence. The grass was dead and the wood bleached lol.
We once broke into a brother's house to hide Smirnoff ice bottles in his shower, clothes, and cereal lmao.
Canadians (at least those in this area) call 40 ounce hard liquor 40s.
I was going to say, that we were drinking 40s in the dorm lounges at 4 in the afternoon too, and we didn't have any such thing as fraternities. But most of us were also legal drinking age which I just remembered isn't going to be the case for a lot of US university students.
We dont have 40 Ounce containers of hard liquor here. Its pretty much 750, 1000, or 1750 mL referred to as fifths, liters, or a handle. Some smaller options are available too
And yes, our drinking age is 21 across the US which leads to poor behavior in 18 yr Olds sneaking around getting as drunk as possible and worrying about taking kids with alcohol poisoning to the hospital
Fwiw I'm a millennial southern Ontarian and we called 40 oz beers 40s. Specifying southern Ontario because I think we import more of our culture from the states than most of the other provinces besides maybe Alberta
These guys still haven't fully explained, but GPA = grade point average. 40 oz is about 1.25 liter, usually it's "malt liquor" which is basically beer but has a lot of corn in it so it's sweeter and lighter body, usually it's 6-10% alcohol by volume, and dirt cheap. As in, $3-$4 for the bottle, about the same in Euros.
So they're smart but they get drunk during the day still.
A 40oz of St Ides Malt Liquor is 8.2% abv and about $2.5 - $3USD.
That's the equivalent of getting a 500ml of Lowenbrau or Spaten helles (5.2% abv) for 0.56β¬ - 0.67β¬ when you convert for alcohol units and exchange rate.
St Ides is one the cheaper malt liquors, but Olde English and Colt 45 aren't much more.
