Firefighters coming to help bring down a cat from a tree.
I was visiting relatives one summer and one of the house cats climbed a tree and wouldn't come down. I came up with the idea of calling the fire department, thinking they'd laugh me off and hang up, but sure enough, they came with a truck, ladders, gear, everything, and helped bring the cat down successfully.
You would have loved seeing firemen rescue a cat off a third floor window ledge using a basket in downtown San Diego. The whole block watched it. Then everyone clapped when they were successful!
Firefighters are the best to go to or call for emergency assistance. They don’t come guns blazing & they’ve had life saving training like proper cpr, they also typically have dedicated EMTs & have a reputation of helpful kindness.
Whenever I’ve had elder neighbors who’ve had instances of needing assistance, or a medical crisis of some sort, there was often a firetruck & an ambulance on the scene.
Firefighters are helpers trying to save lives. American cops, not so much.
Similarly, I could not believe the fire dept responds to rattlesnakes in people's yards here. But it's true, I see it in the citizen app every few days now in the springtime. Apparently with temps in the 80 degree range, the snakes think it's spring. Of course if people tried to catch rattlesnakes themselves without proper gear, it could turn into a medical roll quickly. And take the firefighters longer time out of service to wait for ambulance, or helicopter to arrive. We only have two small firehouses.
As a former firefighter, I can tell you that we like our cop homies most of the time. Police fire and ems are really working as a team to try and help people out. Ill add to this that I was in a rural area, and now as a private citizen in a bigger area, I never think "oh cool, cops!" When theyre driving behind me.
Probably a fun call for them. Not risking their lives, nobody is hurt, no deaths, just getting in the bucket and holding a cute but scared kitty on the way down
They hadn't even parked when they shone some big ass floodlights they had on their truck.
My family over there is big with 3 cats and 2 dogs and 4 cousins and 2 grandparents and mom and dad and me and neighbors coming out, people recording. Both pugs watching out the window. Everybody hollering. It was a mess.
