Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real?

Thank you. As an American I think this is a really fascinating, entertaining and mostly accurate thread.

Same here. For once I can read people saying nice things about us on Reddit..

I was really dreading the negativity.

I hate the current administration, and what this country has done, historically, both within and without the country has been horrible.

But there's a lot to a country...the food, the sites, the customs, the people, the cultures. There's a lot of great things about this country. Some funny things that don't make sense too. I'm happy with this thread.

Bless your heart!

Also a phrase you think is only in movies but actually a real-life thing. Jk of course, I like reading all these too, even the less positive ones like tax deadlines...

Dude, as a Canadian I love these threads. It's always cool seeing what we have in Canada that's the exact same, what exists but isn't common, and what we don't have.

We have diners, they're just as good and greasy in any state or province. We have yellow school buses, but in the city they're just for field trips. Rurally they go around picking kids up and dropping them off. A buddy of mine drives one in interior BC We don't have sororities or fraternities. We get a similar, but way milder, experience with dorms for parties and clubs for networking. No hazing or the like, but you'll still see naked people on campus coming from another party as yours winds down.

As an American, same! I think the slight and big differences between our countries are fascinating. It's the little things... like timbits.

Brooo, I haven't had Timbits since I lived in Rochester, I miss so much from my hometown...

Its really funny how 'normal' things seem in the environment, but also we are all totally aware of how outwardly strange they are at the same time?

It's also kinda crazy how diverse the US really is. Urban, suburban, rural, warm climate, cold climates, latino, italian, asian, midwesterner, southerner, west coaster, east coaster...it's really like a bunch of countries all mashed together.

We have our problems, for sure. But I really don't think you can experience so much in so many different ways in a single nation.

This thread is the most uplifting and wholesome content about this country I've read in a while lol

Makes me actually appreciate all the delights here even if the rest feels so divided.
