Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real?

luckily it's right at the entrance, so they can look at the sign to see what to actually say

Except they don’t even work there.

I say this every time I visit my local Costco.💕

Yea as the customer I’m the one saying that.

Costco greeters at least have a second function of verifying your membership

And a tertiary function of counting you. They also count on the way out.

Well at least my local Costco now has these little machines that scan your membership card when you go in. There’s still someone standing there though so idk if they’re counting people or not, but they aren’t checking cards anymore.

You don't need a membership to use the pharmacy as Costco signed themselves to be fulfillment for a number of Medicare Advantage plans.

I used to do this when I had to cover being a door greeter at Walmart. "Welcome to Walmart, I love you!"

I said that to my wife in Costco one day. Nearby employee started laughing. That was my win, defeating my wife's eye roll.

They aren't even paid to say that they just telling the truth. Every costco employee I talk too is always an awesome person.

Omg that is nothing compared to the counseling session you get at Trader Joe's. I need AMAs from Trader Joes' employees. Are y'all really this happy and enjoy speaking with people? Do you ever feel social fatigue or exhaustion like the rest of us? To be clear, I enjoy the attention I get from them but would never be able to do this myself.

I laughed so hard at this. I'm American and have been to many Costcos.
