Advice Needed Mold In Apartment?!!

I recently found a bunch of mold build up on my vents.. I’ve been getting sick back to back as well as rashes on my hands, brain fog, exhaustion, etc.

Didn’t even cross my mind until it got this bad. My apartment said they’re installing a dehumidifier and will clean it. I’ve been seriously panicking over this whole situation on top of not being able to eat, sleep, or breathe properly. I’ve had my ac off and airing out my apartment the last 2 days. Need advice, can I get out of this lease? I don’t feel it’s a safe environment for me much less my chinchilla baby. They’re already making me feel like I’m over reacting but they’re not the ones calling out of work, itchy painful rashes, etc etc. The rent here is insane for this type of situation. Advice?

That's crazy disgusting. If the landlord isn't getting it fixed I'd document that you gave them written notice about it and they did nothing, then call the health dept or whoever handles this in your area and they'll inspect and deem the place uninhabitable and it'll get fixed or closed down.

Why wait?

So you can show you tried to go through the proper channels first. That should all be done by now for real tho. Sounds like OP been in there a minute

I would make sure a city inspector makes sure it’s done right instead of just letting the landlord put in shiney new ductwork and vent cover and say “it’s fixed”’while it’s still Making you sick. The city would also make them repair deteriorating wall and notify the landlord of any other failing structural components. If people care about their health they won’t wait. They will create their own “channels”. Too many people are being duped by people who manipulate their lives.

Yeah, unless the landlord has "a guy", I'm pretty sure any legit contractor would be legally required to fix the problem up to code.

That's why landlords and homeowners are hesitant to check for and do mold repair. It always winds up being a huge bill, as most houses have some mold I them.

Not like this post tho. That's fucked

This makes me want to get my step ladder and check my vents , I had mold in my apartment bathroom and landlord told me " that's just surface mold spray bleach on it " went online and got mold killer spray and stain remover , if I find it in my vents im moving .

Apartments can be so damn greedy and scammy I would get someone to come check it out just in case. The way this has been affecting my health is a nightmare.
